I have loads of dirty clothes which I'm laundering right now. And lifting up buckets of water to fill up the washing machine is quite tiring. I don't have an automatic washing machine and I don't even have a water hose. I am already tired and there's still loads to do. I actually hope that I burn fats in doing this. But my question is.. will I burn fats when I don't even sweat?
I do walk a little, lifts up buckets of water, rinse our clothes manually but still no sweat :(. I wonder if these things that I do benefits my physical body than just the fulfilling feeling of having clean clothes.

Hello leeandrew,
Well taking a washing machine as a different thing I am sure we will burn more fats washing our clothes with our hands. I am too lazy to bother even thinking of doing it because I can avail the opportunity to use a semi automatic washing machine and as far as lifting up buckets of water, yes it will help exercise but do that on a more regular basis if you actually want to lose some weight. I would recommend washing your clothes with your hands unless you are as lazy as me. And talking about sweat yeah, that is absolutely necessary as it reflects that your body has done enough to heat up and also sweating cleans the skin pores and makes you drink more water so it is definitely a good thing. If rinsing your clothes doesn't bring you sweat, it doesn't mean you are doing no exercise but yes that will keep your muscles going but not too good for loosing weight. I would recommend you walk for an hour at least, everyday. That should do for a good start, just casual walking and then later you may want to speed up a little or go for longer walks.

Ahh, it must be a real sweet time walking with your partner, I can only imagine. Well, yes things change after having a new young cute little guest. Anyways, when he/she gets older you can definitely get back to walking. Until then you could perhaps try to regulate your intake diet and try to exercise with daily chores.

Oh yeah. walking with him is indeed a real sweet time. I miss doing it with him because we can't do it anymore. I'm too tired to walk at night after a day of doing things and looking after our one year old daughter.
I am hoping I'll be able to get back to work when she gets older, I mean when can take care of herself. A job that pays on the 15th and 30th of every month. I am hoping we could buy a car so that I could bring her to work too. I will find a job that is not that too strict to bring my daughter to work.
I really wish I could go on a diet, but, the word itself brings fears to me whenever it is heard. lol! I actually hope so that I'll be able to trim my food intake even now. :) Thanks for the comments. God bless you!

Hi. thanks. You are totally right with the walk thing. Hubby and I used to walk at night before when there was only the two of us. But now that we have a baby already we stopped doing because who would look after of baby girl when we walk. It's hard to do it during the day time because it's hot and humid in our place. So we always wait till the night comes. I now miss my walking time because it only not help me loose weight, it was one of our bonding time too as husband and wife.

What I know is that our body can burn fats even without doing too much. Even reading a book could help burn fats. It really depends on a person's metabolism, and different people have different levels of such. I mean, some have vigorous workouts but the fats that are burned might be less than say someone who does leisurely walks but has a faster metabolism rate.

You are actually right. My husband eat large amount of food and actually more than I ate sometimes but he's too skinny. What's make me more jealous is... he has no effort of eating less co's he has no such problems. His metabolism is very active which make me wish mine too.
I'm getting older and I think my metabolism is not that active anymore which make me so sad co's no matter how I try to lessen my food in take nothing happens with my weight. :(

We're in a very similar situation . My wife sometimes gets jealous of my eating habits. I mean, I could eat sweets, drink sodas, eat large portions of food, but I don't bloat up. She has to refrain from a lot of her favorite food and work out constantly just to maintain her figure. Although I'm aware that eventually I need to select the food I eat. You're right, when we get older, our metabolism slows down.

Hi there!
You are most definitely burning fat doing your laundry the way you described it.
Any amount of physical exertion means you are burning calories. Be it the little walking that you do, washing clothes manually or even vacuuming!
For any physical activity (or any activity at all), your body needs energy and for that, we burn fats. Based on how much strain the activity puts on our body, we may burn less or more fat.
Amount of sweat that you get while doing work varies from one person to the next person. For instance, I sweat very less even in very high temperatures. I have oily skin, so my skin gets greasy, but I don't sweat much. Sweat has little to do with the amount of fat you burn.
Take care and God bless.

Really! wow! that's interesting to know that sweating has little to do with my burning of fats. I once was told by a friend that the more I sweat when working out is the more that I burn fats. But even as I don't do anything I sweat because I feel very hot specially during noon times. I am just thankful that at least I have some information about sweating and burning of fats. Thanks a lot!

Yes. Although you also have to fight the temptation to do the cleaning 'the easy way' (just let the clothes sit in some soapy water for a little while, then hang `em out to dry).
Or you could just do `em the easy way & let `em sit and/or dry while you're exercisin`

You know what? with the humid hot weather we have here in our place doing anything is such a struggle at times. This is the reason why I just do our laundry once a week or once in every two weeks. Actually, if there's only easy way to clean the house I probably would do that instead.
The thought of hiring someone to do the cleaning in our house comes to minds every now and then when I don't feel like doing it, but of course I don't have the luxury to pay them co's the money I have is just enough to meet ends. At least I have benefits from doing house hold stuff. This is not merely house hold chores.
Oh I just cannot do what you suggested with the laundry thing. My baby's clothes has stains and I need to rub it with hands to take it off. hahaha. How I wish I could do things in one time ( I mean doing laundry and as well us jumping up and down for my exercise) lol!
Thanks fore the comment anyway.

I actually let myself believe that I loose weight for all that I've done with that big file of laundry. But have I really loose weight it?.. Co's after I did the laundry I also ate a lot from my lunch. I got tired and hungry from doing the laundry. I just hope that the calories and fats I lost is more than the fat or calories intake I have today.

Yeah, I have also learned that even while sleeping you burn fats, probably not not enough to loose weight but still your burning. What I hope really, is that burn extra fats while cooking and washing dishes because this is what I normally do almost everyday. Even at times that I don't feel to actually, I forced myself to cook because in-laws are waiting for me to do so.

I have started doing a lot more house work recently, and I have noticed that I am losing weight better. If you're moving at all then you're burning more calories than you would be doing if you were just sitting down and doing nothing. So you are definitely doing more manually than doing it with a machine. You should do this anyway because not only does it mean that you're able to burn more fat, but it also means that you can save money on the energy bills that you would have used if you've chosen to use your machine.

I also would like to do more house chores, but the only things I don't like about it is the heat. I don't like sweating because I am hot, I want to sweat because I am doing hard physical work. I tried to go to the gym twice a week before and I also have tried running or walking but I stopped because I got hospitalized not because of the exercise but for some internal disorder.

I do gardening, I walk eat less but nothing seems to help!I guess metabolism slow down with age so I guess I will have to walk even more.

When I was younger my metabolism was so active that my waist line was only 26 but I did nothing. BUt you are right I always out and very active as well and that's probably one factor why I was skinny. Now that I'm in my mid 30's my waistline is 35. I have tried loads of slimming teas and diets but its for no avail. Nothing really change much. It is easy to gain weight than losing it :(

Yes, I guess you're burning your fats even if you don't sweat that much. I also do my laundry manually. Sometimes my hands get painful. LOL. It's okay. It's fun washing clothes with my husband. While doing our laundry, we chit chat. It's one of our bonding moments. Happy mylotting.

I really wish the hardest that I burn fats even I do nothing I mean even as I sit down in our couch and mylotting. My consist of writing, so it just means that I don't do much physical work but just my fingers and eyes and my mind that works here. I'm hoping though that with little physical things that I do, I will burn large amount of fats.
Well, hubby is at work reason why I did our laundry alone. It's quite hard though because as I rinse our clothes I also am telling my one year old daughter to stay away from me and from the water.

I once read that we burn calories continuously even as we sleep so doing manual labor will definitely burn some fats, maybe not enough to lose weight but at least it will keep off recently consumed calories. :)

You know what... my problem is I am not a healthy eater. And I don't even do any dieting. As others who are more than my size before are getting slimmer these days and I am getting more of it, the feeling of shamefulness is slowly sweeping over me though, yet I cannot control myself from eating.. eating good food. One reason why I am a good eater because I am a good cook too :)

Thank god and i think that most exercise is mainly becuse of you try to doing something to lose your calory. So just work hard on that and i'm not so sure whether it depends on sweating.Feel good after exercising and i believe you will benefit from that.Good luck to you.

I actually wish I have a machine to help me lose weight. I am not comfortable walking or jogging outside. I don't live in an exclusive subdivision or something. People at my place would stare someone doing such things and not only that, you would be their laughing stock specially with my kind of weight. I really hope I have huge motivation in working out!

If you're going to do that as an everyday routine, of course it will. As of now, have it as an inspiration so you'll not get bored and tired on your chores.

No, I don't do my laundry everyday. I do it once or twice every two weeks. I just don't have the energy to do it everyday like other mother does. Actually if I could only buy an automatic washing machine I probably would, so that all I will do is put inside my dirty clothes and it will come out clean and soft.

Off course.. Doing household works helps to burn fat. Because its just a exercise with your body. Sweating does not help to burn fat. Sweating helps us to keep the body temperature normal when the temperature of body rises.

I just hope so because I have exerted too much effort I think in doing our laundry. It would be sad if I don't burned any fats or calories at all. Specially that I don't do any workouts, It's too hot it here to acquire more sweats. I don't like sweating, I actually spent money if I could just to stay cold.
My friend just told me though that not all sweating means your burning fats. She said someone should exert effort to get that sweat to be able to burn.
