Family dinner tonight

I am trying to get myself motivated for this exhausting task. My grandma is having a dinner tonight for the whole extended family (aunts, uncles, cousins) and I need to get up and starting getting ready, I just don't feel like it. It's so exhausting to get all the kids ready to go, plus myself and drive halfway across town to her house and all of my family doesn't always get along or see eye to eye, especially with this upcoming election, there are going to be a lot of heated discussions tonight. Half vote Democrat, the other half Republican, so that's what we are going to have to deal with over dinner. One of my cousins is overly emotional when it comes to politics, one time he punched his fist through a glass door and had to get 80 something stitches, all because he was so angry talking about politics. I want to go because it's nice to get to see everyone, but it's such a chore!

I know how it can feel like a bit of a chore to see the family that we haven't seen in a long time, but you should be thankful that you have the chance to do so because seeing family is something that a lot of people are not able to do. I like to see my family whenever I can, but I am not lucky enough to be able to get in touch with all of them a lot of the time because we all live in different parts of the country so we can't all meet up because of our jobs and our families and things like that. So you should never take your family for granted.

I think you should extend effort to do it because it is a family gathering.
And I think your grandma will be very glad to be with her family including you...

Well, that's the hint about relatives, we can't choose them like our friends but we have to care enough and do enough because they're family. I also have quite a few relatives whom I could really do without seeing or talking, but good manners and family dictates that I should still put an appearance. Sometimes, I even end up liking their spouses more than I like them.
