I see many working couple opting to go for this and it is an excellent earning option for housewives who like to cook .I Have a neighbor who supplies packed home cooked meals both vegetarian and non vegetarian to various households. She has a help who assists her in shopping and cooking and also a part time maid to do the cleaning up of the large tiffin carriers in which she supplies the food, but the dinner is supplied to various homes by herself on her two wheeler...I too ordered one each of veg and non veg meals from her and the food was really good and very reasonably prices at Rs 50 and Rs 65 each...She gives 2 rotis,rice,2 vegetable curries ,dhal and papad and a non vegetarian dish/fish curry/fish fry for non vegetarians...I think this is an excellent opportunity for housewives since there is a lot of demand for home cooked food that comes to your door step..

I have noticed that it is very demanding. some ladies are doing very good from home. Good to see housewives coming with superb ideas like this. I am sure the food must be tasty as home food does. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

I would hope such things do prosper. It actually gives the housewives a sense of achievement. they should know that there are people to applaud their efforts too. Instead of stuffing themselves in the four walls of the kitchen, they should involve in such activiti4es. Its really creating an entrepreneur at each house.

There is always demand for good food especially when it is home cooked and prepared with care. This lady is doing that and everything is clean so people feel confident to order from her.She is having a huge demand now and is planning to expand it further by supplying lunch to employees in offices and banks..

Excellent topic Kiranji. My mother and my wife are excellent cooks. When people used to ask me about my Late father, he had many avenues being Chief Public Prosecutor. My mother always reared me up and cooked food from birth till today. Sometimes people wonder what to say about mother. I say she has magic in her hands, and cooking is an art, gift of God. It is another case she did not make profits by selling her hand made bottle gourd dish or fish curry. If women are earning from cooking I love the job.

Yes I agree it is a good job for women ..You know this topic was started in 2012 and now after 4 years my neighbor and friend has a small restaurant and she does catering, also supplies food like before. She stated her career out of necessity when her husband left her and moved in with another lady. All she had was a house of her own gifted by her mother and being a catholic she never wanted to divorce him and get some alimony..Now she is alright, earning well and her children are doing well ..

@kiran8 Thanks Kiranji for the information. I wish the best to the woman and all women in the world. They make a lot of sacrifice for rearing up children and cooking for the household.

hi there kiran8,
that sounds great. that aside from the earnings that your neighbor gains, she was also able to serve you with her food services.
well, i just remember my dream before, somehow like that, but, unfortunately, every thing was crashed and put into trash.

Hi sheila, Thanks a lot for your response, it is nice to see people being so enterprising,my neighbor has had a very tough time, since she is separated from her husband, has two children and has not much income except that she has a tiny house where she stays and she has given one room for rent. She started by giving meals to her tenant and then it was for his fiends and so on...I feel very happy for her.
But why do you say that your dreams have crashed, put the past firmly behind and look at the present and the future and have some other dream, all the best and happy mylotting

wow, she is using her time and knowledge very well. such women are really inspiring. Getting good food at reasonable price is really good, and very useful to those people who are very busy with their office work. such people should be encouraged.
i checked the Bodunnan site, its some what confusing.

I am happy to hear about this. I enjoy hearing about heart felt and generous acts to people in need. This is a necessity that is being filled and those people who receive these meals will be better off for it. I hope this will continue to grow in popularity but perhaps not too much. It would be hard for this woman to supply too much food at once because of high demand.

Hi echo, thanks a lot for your response I agree that it is not easy for a single lady to manage a lot, but she is resourceful and doing the best she can and getting a decent monthly income.I think food , especially home cooked wholesome food will always be in demand ,since many people who work dont have the time nor the patience to come home and cook, also ordering outside food from takeaways has its limitations - all the best and happy mylotting

Yes echo , she is already very popular in the neighborhood since there are a few bachelors living in the vicinity and they have their breakfast and dinner at her place, which is easier for her since she need not pack nor deliver food..She also gives something special for them on Sundays and festivals..Have a nice weekend

It does sound like she is a resourceful woman and she is using her talents for others needs. What a kind woman as well. I agree wholesome meals will always be in demand. There isn't a substitute for a home made meal. Take out foods are okay, they will fill you up but they still are generically made with no care for that person in mind. Home cooked meals have the complete opposite in mind. I am sure that she will have many a customer wishing for more and they will contact her often.

This is also becoming popular in our office; some people would take home cooked packed meals and go rounds in different departments an hour before lunch time. They are not only cheaper than a restaurant or fast-food meal but also healthier. Most people also prefer home cooked meals than instantly prepared ones.

Nice to know that such a system already exists in your office. How much I wish if such a thing comes at our office too. Since I work far away from home, I eat mostly from restaurants Its not healthy and very costly too. But unfortunately, I am left with no option but survive on such things. i would always opt for any other option if available.

@ varun, may be soon you too could find such an arrangement at your place

In the state of Virginia we cannot do that. You have to be liscensed. This would mean that we would need to have a seperate kitchen. You cannot have a your business and personal kitchen be the same.In order to obtain and keep your liscense you would need to have and pass an inspection from the health department.
But,because it is also illegal to have more than one full sized kitchen in a single family home then you would need to have a seperate place of business. Therefore it is not possible to do this as a home based business in Virginia.
As a child we had lemonade stands on the sidewalk as well as our front yard and I am aware of some kids doing it now. But,I have heard that in this area police have closed down some stands because their parents did not have a food liscense.

Different states have various regulations.I do believe that most states require a liscense.

Hi dfollin, thanks a lot for sharing those details, Is this the same all over the country, where people need to get a licence? In India too , there are checks made by the health authorities once she crosses the earning limit that goes above the taxable income ..I too feel that there should be some regulation as to the quality of the food supplied etc.All the best and have a nice day

Hi Kiran!
Yes, you are right that it is one of the best options to get home cooked food. I think in a city like Mumbai many couples go for it and those who prepare it also get a good share of earning. Who does not want to eat 'home cooked food' of rice and chapatis and dal?
I think it is far better than what is served in hotels and restaurants.

I think in Bangalore demands is on the high side. Many working couples and bachelors work in the city and there are many Engineering and Medical colleges where students study.
Due to higher demand, variety of food is supplies, I suppose.

Hi kiran,
yes this is a excellent way of earning by the housewives. By supplying cooked meals to various households they can contribute good amount of money to their family. The housewives who know knitting they can also earn money. Baby wears have much demand. Housewives can supply baby wears to the couples who need these for their children. This can also be a good way of earning money. Actually there are various option for the housewives to earn money.

yes it has gained an awesome popularity. but not every where they give a proper food. they need to maintain quality of food they give. I had a lady who provided us with home cooked food. She gave us awesome food for a month later on i don't know what went wrong, she started giving us all watery and tasteless food. And only one type of vegetables. Sometime before starting she had promised for sweet dish and Chicken or egg in tiffin but we could hardly eat any of these. We had to stop and cook ourselves in spite of less time

Hi Archie, that is very unfair ! I agree that quality has to be maintained otherwise one can never succeed. My friend has kept up her quality so far and is doing very well. She is also not too greedy since she wants to make a living in a fair manner to maintain herself and not make a business out of it...In fact, she gives sweets during festivals without any extra charge and also sometimes adds on slices of fruits that she grows in her garden like papayas, Guavas ,mangoes and also bananas ..

Hello, any food which are cooked at home is fresh and healthy than hotel foods. I know one lady of my city. now she is not in this world, she was also cooking food for some students. She was widow and cooking food is source of her earning. I think any one like to eat food which is cooked by female at home.

Hi anil, I agree that home cooked food is any day better than what you get in restaurants and fast food joints. It is nice to hear about the lady in your city ,am sure there are many who do this...In a village close by here there is a very well established agriculturist family, very wealthy but very nice. The lady feeds three poor students from a nearby school every afternoon.they go to the house during lunch break, eat a hot meal and come back in time..

Hi kiran! In our country, there are some who would also deliver ready to eat foods especially for lunch at the office. This is much cheaper than ordering in fast food chains in our place.

Yes I too have read about such things in different cities. In fact people even rent out rooms for travelers and tourists providing home cooked food for them for lunch and dinner...It is a very good option when you have the resources, and the time..I see that it has brought in a lot of positive changes to my neighbor who is much more positive and self confident now..

Hmmm, sounds delicious, and since I am a heavy meat eater, I know everything I order will of course be non veg.
It's a good service, you get fresh cooked food that tastes just like home, it is literally home cooked food. :) And price sees quite reasonable to me too. Yes, it's a nice opportunity for household wives, and they would be getting paid and even quite much if their sales go up. The only thing is that maybe she should hire someone up for the delivery, she is doing it on her own, that would have been tiring had it been me in her place. But yeah, that saves her some of the cost too, nice way to keep busy and earn, and since loves cooking I bet she enjoys it a whole lot too.
I haven't heard of such a service at my place though, but it sounds nice and a very good option if you don't want to eat in a mess or a similar place, (because you know you hate mess food lol) . The package reminds me of the pantry car in train, but I bet her food must be much much better than that. Maintaining all those tiffins sure must be a lot of work and she has got someone to take care of that. I think it is a very neat idea.

Hi voldrox, thanks a lot for sharing your views yes she does enjoy all the things concerned with her business and wants to take on even more . The tiffin is not cleaned by her, there she has done a smart thing - she asks the people to buy similar tiffin carriers which she herself buys in bulk, the large ones with 5 containers. She charges a nominal sum for those a deposit of rs 1000 / and they have one and she has one.She supplies food in one and gets the other one, so no washing up from her side...The food is really good and she makes some special dish too for festivals like kheer or a sweet dish, also on Sundays she has some fried stuff or a biryani etc ...all the best and enjoy your weekend

This is going on since a long time and yes working couples benefit by this specially when domestic help has become rare these days. That is indeed cheap. My kitchen is active but sometimes I do order food from a hotel here who home deliver the stuff. They have a huge variety including soups and Chinese dishes too.

We call it catering here in Manila. It is actually a good kind of business especially if it can be on a regular basis like on offices where employees without packed lunches can buy. I actually liked this idea, I just don't have enough people to start it aside from the thought that I have a daytime work.

Hi mhypie, thank you so much for your response ..of course it is catering but in a small way.One can start it by distributing what you cook for yourself and then move on to other things. My neighbor started by serving home cooked simple meals to a couple of bachelors for dinner and then graduated to other things...all the best and enjoy your weekend

I think this is a good alternative for income. If you have a skill, you can always find a way to make money out of it. I'm actually learning how to bake to start a local cake business at home since cupcakes are starting to sell well from where I'm at.
