Work continuity or Money

If you are in a situation wherein the company that you worked on will be closing in a year. And they are offering separation packages (money) but the date that they will be offering it is not fixed or in other words, employees don't know when the offer will be opened. Supposing that you get hired in another company but the separation package is not yet open. What will you do? Go for the new job without the separation package? or continue working in that company until it closes down and receive the separation package?

I agree, if the separation package is substantial then I would wait it out but if the job that she is been offered is worth something long-term, then I would jump on it.

The package is actually more than 4 months salary. Are you suggesting that even if I get hired I won't accept it and just wait for the separation package to be offered?

If the new company will offer a better pay, why not go for it. However, you should also consider like how many years have you been working in the company. If the amount you can get from separation benefit is enough for you to start a good business, then you can wait a little longer. Anyway you will still be paid during your stay with that company. Another thing is your age, if you are still young, you can look for other jobs after you have been separated from your present employment.
Try to weigh the pros and cons and decide after. Hope this helps. Have a nice day!

This means that if the offer of the new company is less, then I should decline it. Thanks for all of this.

I would continue working until receiving the seperation package. It seems to be a sure thing while your next job is not. I am sorry to hear about your needing to seperate from your job. As soon as you receive the package, you can go on your job hunt and have a financial security blanket. Hopefully, you will find a job before the benefits of your package run out.

The package is so good to be refused. Hopefully, things will go with my plan. Thanks for the comment.

Of course, whether I stayed or went would depend on a few variables. One variable that I would really consider is whether or not I feel like I would like the other job better than the job that I have now. If they are the same type of job with the same pay, I would probably stay with the current company and just wait things out.
On the other hand, if I felt like I would like the new job better, like if it was my dream job, then I would just cut my losses and start on my new dream job...especially if I felt like it was somewhere that I could stay long term and not have to worry about that particular company closing down soon.

I would continue working until it closes down and receive the separation package. I can relate here, my account pulled out its operation here in my place but my company is willing to transfer us in anothe account. Kind of similar. But in your case, you need to check on new job offerings, go on job hunting as early as now, maybe it's just timely to look for a new one. We really need jobs to help us go through this life. Good luck to all of us and thank you.

I'm currently looking for jobs and had interviews already. Problem is, if I get hired but the program was not yet offered, then its a difficult decision to make. Thanks for responding and good luck too.

i think it would be better if you go get the new job. you know its kinda hard getting a job these days but you are quite lucky to possibly get a new one even though you still have your old job.
you know yourself that your current job will close soon, so just anticipate the things that might happen if you will just wait for the separation package.
compare your separation package (that might last only for like 4 months) to the income that you possibly can get from the new job (without having the worries about the company's status).

The salary and benefits that will be offered in the new job will be the deciding factor whether I will wait for the program or not. Thanks for posting.

I think it would depend on how much the separation package was and how much I wanted the new job. If the new job was perfect then I would just go to it. But if it wasn't perfect and the separation package was substantial, I'd stay.
If the separation package would really only cover my expenses while i job hunted, I think I would just take the new job because that way I wouldn't have to worry.

I don't know if the new job is perfect but the company itself in terms of revenue is perfect. Thanks.

a pleasant day to you,
it looks like you are somehow trapped in a situation which you both want to have. thus, to have that separation package and at the same time to have the new job offer but the thing is, time pushes you to choose. well, for me, if you can talk to your boss if you will going to avail an early separation pay, how much will be the approximate amount, then, from there, you can make an initial decision. life is sometimes playful, that we are being put into a situation that we cannot choose abruptly. that we tend to say this at the end, "what if". thus, whatever your final decision, you must be ready and knows how to handle it. goodluck.

I could not ask for early separation from my boss because the program will only open if the management decides to, if not, then we cannot avail the program. I guess time will help me on deciding this.

Once I stayed till the end to get the separation package but this was at the time I did not really need the income. I also once left and took an other job (needed an income for my kids mostly) and once I stayed (it was not a full time job) and started with the new job next to it to find out if I really liked it. If you think you will easily find an other job, or you can ask them to wait for you till.. I would stay, otherwise I would take te new job.

I'm also thinking about negotiating to let the new company wait until the package will be offered. Problem is, if they will decline because they needed the job urgently. That would be another problem.

It just happened with me. But it was not a year, but it was a month earlier notification. All I got was a month's salary. Now I am trying hard to earn. Hard luck, at present I am working for a company on work from home basis, but I really don't know how long would I survive there.

I think you should start looking for other job opportunities while you still have that job. Who knows, a good one is waiting for you.
