I have a 6 years old digital camera and it was broken two days ago. I went to Canon repair center trying to figure out what went wrong. The battery was too old and need to replace and the lenses need to replace too. I got upset when i asked how much it cost including the service fees. I think i need to purchased a new digital camera to replace the old one which is more cheap and brand new at the same time. What do you think my fellow mylot friends? Have a great day!

Bhebelen yes. I threw out a digital camera when it got repaired and people in chennai told it is not repairable. I think it is advisable to go in for a new one costing around 150$ or so. you will get good cameras.

My digital camera is quite a few years old now, but I have no use for it nowadays. I paid quite a fair amount of money for what was a decent camera at the time, with a 5.5 megapixel resolution. This was good enough to take decent photographs to print out up to A4. I also bought a spare battery and the Olympus leather case for it. It is still in excellent condition, but has become obsolete because my mobile phone takes better pictures. My Nokia has a 12 megapixel camera, which is definitely overkill for holiday snaps etcetera, so carrying a separate camera has no purpose anymore.

Yes, i totally think that you need to buy a new one.. i think most digital cameras are cheap now.. a minimum of 3-4 thousands pesos i guess. And cameras these days have many features even if they are cheap.

Hi Bhebelen, this post is reminds me to my brother's cellphone. He dropped the phone and it was broken, then we brought it to the service center just to find out that the service will cost a lot (new cellphone cost about $150 and if we service the phone it will cost about $110) so my brother preferred buy a new cellphone instead of get it serviced in the service center. But then one my father's staff tried to fix the phone and it did work so now he is happy to have 2 mobile phones. If the service will cost you a lot, I think it is better for you to buy a new digital camera. Digital camera's technology is getting better each day and if you like to buy similar camera to your old camera, Im sure the price is so much cheaper than when you bought it years ago. When new gadget with better feature is launched, the old model's price is dropped.

Well, I think you must buy one since there are so many good yet affordable cameras available. It will cost too much with the repair. I had bought mine couple of days ago actually. I am indeed satisfied with it. Its brand is Olympus. So genuine and clear! Love it so much!

I agree that buying new camera is much better than having the old one repaired. There are quality branded cameras at reasonable prices especially this season, a lot of sales are going on.

If it costs more to repair and maintain it, I'd say better buy a new one. Since it's already old and damaged, sometime in the future, it will need repair again and would cost you again. There are newer and cheaper models and I'm sure you would be able to find a good one. Besides, at 6 years, I think you have used the camera's worth already. Mostly, gadgets have a life of 5 years. In fact, in 2 years' time, it could already be obsolete. Things change fast during these times.

It's exciting to buy a new thing, just do some internet search first (if you don't have time to go around stores to compeare prices) to also to see if there isn't some very cheap online deal. When buying a bread machine I actually found half price! Prices can be really unfair and I found that online can be cheaper. Just mind the store you'll buy from.

There are many digital cameras being out nowadays that are affordable. Had my last digicam at 4,999 it is 12MP Kodak but have never used it for more than a year now. In my opinion, I like sony cybershot better in terms of photo quality. My husband has old sony cybershot and I can still say that it works perfectly and photo quality is very good. Have you think of buying a dslr as they are really nice and you can in fact make photography one of your hobbies. We have 2 dslr at home and I really love it because photos are so perfect and like it was taken by a professional photographer.

I don't know what kind of digital camera you have and how frequently you use it. But if it's a cheaper kind and already 6 years old I would safe for a new one. A new one also has quarantee. To fix an old one for the price you also can buy a new one is a waste of money. Pity enough this is the case with many things we buy now a days. It's all made to not fix anymore when it's broke. And broke it's frequently already after 1 year.

I don't know if the Canon store in your place does this, but maybe you can trade-in your old camera with them and get a new one and you will just pay the price difference from the trade-in. My friend bought his printer from Canon and exchanged his old one for the new one plus cash because the new one is of course more expensive.

Well, if you live in US, head to Costco. They have best deals and low prices. They even have a 90 day return policy too. For Halloween and Thanksgiving, you get coupons and additional discounts too.
