I just discovered this incredible creature. It's so amazing that it's hard to believe it's true. Mimic octopus can change it's shape and colors to impersonate other creatures. It can mimic over 15 species including stingrays, fish, mantis shrimp and sea snakes among others. When the octopus is attacked it shapeshifts into it's attacker's natural predator. For example if damselfish attacks it, it changes into banded sea snake by burying it's body into the sand except for it's 2 arms that make snake like movement while putting on the characteristic black stripes. Here's a video where you can see it change shape. Very interesting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meGA9fjUSq0&feature=plcp The octopus was only discovered recently, in 1998. There must be many other incredible creatures waiting to be discovered, most of them deep underwater. Did you know about mimic octopus? Do you know any other less known incredible species?

That has to be the most amazing thing I've ever seen! I can't believe it. I always thought the octopus was a fascinating creature and I've seen several different species but not that one. Some (maybe all, I don't know) are good at camouflage but this one beats everything. And I'm sure that there are many things deep in the ocean that we have no idea about. Two years ago scientists discovered strange sea creatures under the Great Barrier Reef. And in 1938 the coelacanth fish was discovered after having been thought to be extinct for millions of years. Thanks for a great video. I really enjoyed watching that. Just amazing!

That is so cool. I love how animals have adapted to protect themselves. And think the brainpower that takes. It has to recognize the specific danger, then change to protect against that specific danger.
