I told my hubby today, that I think cooking more and cooking more healthier foods is way better then making all those quick meals and TV dinners and eating out so much. I don't remember the last time we ate out at a fast food restaurant or even at a restaurant period. But because of our work schedules, we always make something quick and simple. I'm starting to cook more though, I want to cook more I enjoy more cooking now especially when it is healthy. Yeah, it may cost a little bit more something I noticed, but I think its well worth it just to be healthy.

I like cooking, but I live alone, so there is not much incentive to do so. I sort of do both. I buy several tv dinners, pizzas, etc. but I will also make stews, pastas, etc. that I can freeze if I make enough for four or more people. I have even cooked chicken parts. And have made ground beef chill mix for tacos. I find that they do not make meals for singles and then I have to weigh in to find recipes that can be either for singles or families.
Then there is the extra food itms. I find there are lots of recipes made by people who buy really exotic stuff land assume others have them on hand all the time.
I do try a new thing, but not that often.

Cooking from scratch is generally cheaper than dining out. I know that, around here, we always end up spending a minimum of $15 when we dine out--even when it is just a basic lunch. Obviously, I can prepare a nice lunch for two for less than that.

Trisha, since i become a stay at home mom, i started to learn to cook more often. Nowadays, me and family seldom want to eat outside anymore. We only eat outside when there is a special celebration going on. for most of the days, i will do some cooking and they return home to eat. I learn a lot and now can cook quite a varieties of nice and delicious food for my family. Besides that, i am happy that i had managed to save quite a lot of money in the long run.

Actually, I think you will find it is cheaper and you are right, so much more healthy. TV dinners alone have so much salt and preservatives. With a busy schedule, get a crock pot. You can start dinner in the morning before you leave the house. When you get home, voila! dinner is ready and only one pot to wash!

Hi trisha27, Its actually a great idea to find time to make your own food, You will find home made food to be fresh and healthier as you will choose food that you prefer and also cook it as you wish unlike restaurant where you may get stale food or badly cooked.

Hi trisha,
I know by experience that even when you use more expensive ingredients for cooking from scratch, it is healthier and less expensive than eating out. I don`t use cans as they have too much sodium. I rely on natural produce and the dishes, however simple, turn out beautiful.

That's good! All those TV dinners are filled with unhealthy stuff like sodium (salt) and too much oil. I think it's worse than dining out. (Cheaper, maybe, but not healthier). So, preparing healthy meals is a good plan. There are various recipes that won't cost as much. It just needs a little researching and some creativity.
