Feeling Pressure over my hectic schedule..

Many of you may undermine this statement considering that this is just the starting phase and I will have to encounter such situations more in number in my coming years..I realize that. I am pursuing M.sc in Economics and this is my first year of college. I had my mid semester exams last week, and was far more hectic than I thought. I do not know how good have I performed, results are yet to be announced. But I felt pressure, knowing that I will have to make myself used to this if I need to survive at this competitive atmosphere where you can actually afford to relax only at the cost of seeing yourself down at the list.

Bhai,I can't give you any advice because I myself am seeking advice. There is so much to study and so less time.Hours of studying seem useless before a set of physics numericals.Something's got to be done.I just try to relax by reading books or listening to music.I would not recommend watching TV though cause nowadays there is nothing worth watching other than KBC. Hope that you get over your stress soon and then tell me what you did to do so.

I wouldn't say I am overstressed. But it was only that I did not expect such schedule considering what thoughts preoccupied my head regarding college life. I always had an impression of fun and enjoyment in college. No one revealed the real truth. It will also be wrong to say that we do not have fun, but a stress is noticeable on each face. Adding to the woes is the competitive atmosphere which does not allow you to relax even for a second. I will overcome this. I do not have any option to be frank. The competition pulls you to the brighter side even if you do not want. Just maintain you cool. Know yourself the best.

I know that today's life is very competitive and we have to perform the best every time but I believe the olden days were far less competitive. This is not because they were less educated but because they did what they liked and not something what others told to do.I am not talking about 1970 or 1980 but just 1990s.I came to know about this through my dad's Facebook account. He has many old students as his friends who have opted for various fields like cooking, photography, acting, painting, etc. But today all we care about is Engineering and Medicine.Children don't understand that all are not born to be doctors or engineers!!

A lot of people can feel as though they are under pressure when they have a lot of things in their lives that they are trying to achieve. One of the things that you should do is to make sure that you write a list of everything that you have to do in an average week and then try to make a timetable of the things that you can do on a daily basis. Being organised is the best thing to do. You should also make sure that you are trying to schedule some relaxation time into your day as well, because just keeping yourself busy isn't always a good thing.

I like your small piece of advice. I even bring it into practice as and when I feel like the need. I do not know. It is probably the college standards that I am not being able to match and which in a sense constantly haunts me. Whether it be studies or co curriculars, I am just finding myself down. My low confidence adding to the woes. I may sound very very depressed but that is not the case. I am ready to take up the challenge. Perhaps things are going too fast for me. And being relaxed for too long is not a supportive statement from any view of imagination.

From what I have read of other students and their feeling at this time what you are feeling is normal. All you can do is do your best. And take care of yourself. Get your rest and eat well. Stress will get you down so you need to be up on your B complex vitamins. Take care.

I am trying my best and it is not that difficult to keep myself away from stress. I know that soon this will become a habit as I get acquainted. It was just that I hadn't experienced this anytime before..so felt it stressful. Thanks for your words..take care

Hi Gautam, If you just believe in yourself that you can really do it, then you can. As what a quote would say...everything is possible if you will just believe...it's just similar with everything has a reason. We need to go through a lot just for us to be strong and to learn from it. We need to work hard in order for us to achieve our goals. Life as a student is never that easy...you need to earn it for you to become successful. In my case, I did worked hard a lot and now, I am happy that I did managed everything because I reached my goal and become a professional. I know you can do it. Have a nice day!

As far as school student life is concerned I am well satisfied and proud of myself. It went as good as could have had gone. I did my schooling in isolated places. I was away from cities and in that respect the exposure. I am now realizing that not having an exposure like that is a kind of setback as I am finding it difficult to match up the pace with my fellow college mates.

I feel you! Hectic schedules and stress are per-requisite of being a student. And all you have to do is to manage them properly and get used to them. :)

Hey Gautam ! Good to be back I must say. Well first things first, I am not one of those who will undermine your statement. Quite frankly Ive just started on my undergrad in Accountancy and Economics, I'm already pretty bogged but I can only imagine what it would be like doing the my masters. But you say that this is your first year in college? I thought masters duration would take only a year? If you believe in God, then try talking to Him. Ask for the burden to be reduced. Hopefully that will help you feel better even in a small degree. Did you know as well, people who tend to focus positively on their outcome are more likely to obtain or achieve what they have envisioned, I know you felt pressure but pressure is good, that means you take it seriously but by all means, do think brightly of it. Here's a little story , Andre Agassi the tennis player, in each and every single one of his matches, professional sports analyst would be able to tell on whether he will win or lose. That is in his posture the moment he walks in the stadium to play. Which shows that he has already won in his head, he has envisioned and no surprise, he won those matches in which he acted this way. You must survive in this competitive atmosphere Gautam ! I know you can do it. Perhaps there is a kink in your revision methods, once you have the flow on your mind works best then I am sure it would not be as hectic. Some people focus well in class, some people wake up in the middle of the night to revise, some just need a lot of excercise compared to reading. All the best !

A load of thanks for your inspirational words. I know what point you want to make. And believe me I am trying to take this pressure exactly in the way you are recommending me to. To be frank, college days haven't proved to be as enjoyable as I thought. No one is to be blamed but me. Apart from what I explained regarding studies, I am feeling excessive competition in whatever field I show my interest in. Now this is good, but good only for those who have a vision. I stress on having the same...but here it is all messed up. So many things to do, so many co-curriculars to take part in, many about whom I haven't even heard. Everyday it feels as if Iam not utilizing the resources I am provided with, not even 1 % of it. It depresses me. I try to be happy in some or the other way but this has been my problem right from the first day. I am doing a dual degree course. M.sc in eco+ B.E. in mech. tatol of 5 years
