Election time.... Are we smarter this time?

Election season is up and are we smart enough to choose the right leaders who will govern us this time? Are we doing are homework digging good traits and track records of our candidate even how they behave during their previous terms and issues they get involved with? In the Philippine government, there are 5 types of politicians based on my observation and I will enumerate each and every kind of them who runs for public position. These are 5 different kinds but they have common agendas, common goals during the campaign season... to help the less fortunate. Let's see how their reasons for running chasing government position and their personalities will affect voters decision. 1. SAME OLD *HIT These are politicians who held government position for 3-6 years and still running for the same position (re-elect or in-convent). I don't know what the hell they missed during their term and they want to get the position back to continue doing service. Actually they are just after the power and money involved in the service, sad to say. isn't odd that these are people who made public service their career? If you will check their curriculum vitae it will show that from the time they left their first job until they reached their golden years, they are in the public service holding a government position. QUESTION: Are they hanging their obligation and then continue it after another term? 2. CLOSE FAMILY TIES These are relatives of SAME OLD *HIT. From wife/husband, son/daughter,grandchildren, siblings, untie/uncle, cousin, in-laws, you name it, they have it. These are the people who inherit the government position their eldest relatives left. The one's who continue the legacy of their predecessor. here's actually what they do, after holding a position for 3 consecutive terms, they will let their partners (husband/wife) run for that position. Then after the heir's term ends the first one will get the position back by winning the next election (if he did not climb another position). This is also known as POLITICAL DYNASTY. This kind of politician also pertains to a family that holds a government position from President down to Vice-President down to senators down to congressmen, to Governor to Vice-Governor to mayor down to vice-mayor to councilor and so on under the same term. A never ending tail. QUESTION: Who do you think runs that position behind closed door? Who manipulates all the decision coming from that office? 3. THE MOUNTAIN CLIMBER This kind is where the SAME OLD *HIT and CLOSE FAMILY TIES starts. They will start from the lowest possible position available in the government and then will climb to the top like climbing a mountain. Sometimes they move to the top as fast as a wind but once they are there, they move too slow providing good service to the people they serve. After reaching the maturity of the terms, just like a climber they will climb down meaning they go back to the old post. 4. SHOW BUSINESS GOVERNMENT (THE ENTERTAINER) Just like the saying, "There is no business like show business." These people are the same faces you see on television providing entertainment. These are the people from the music industry, theater, movies, news and current affairs, etc. After fame and glory their next step is to enter politics. They are afraid that people might forget them if they are behind the curtains. They are also used to loud voices from cheering fans and supporters who wants to get close to their idols and I think they are only after reviving their fame and career once again. Oh! Yes! Let's not forget that these people share their common principles "TO HELP THE LESS FORTUNATE". It also pertains to artist turns politician and back to show business. After winning the election and serving the nation for just a few months, you will see these people back to the golden screen, doing short-novel films, commercials, movies, song album. TV guesting, hosting, etc. Which is their passion and the job they grew up with. QUESTION: Can you help the needy ones without entering politics? Would you like to run a non-government institution instead to help? 5. POLITICIAN WANNA BE These are the unfortunate ones. These are people who really deserves to get a government position, to be a public servant since they have the most sincere intention entering the crazy world of politics and yet they can't. They have the will but not the power to win. They come from the urban of ordinary people, who lived an ordinary simple life. Who knows how to save a little to gain a little. To stretch and flex their muscle to earn a living but people with dignity and firsthand knowledge and experienced the real situation of the poor and may also be a member of a class D and E society. Sometimes they lose the battle from the time they file their certificate of candidacy since they are identified either a nuisance candidate or disqualified by the government owned department (supposed to be independent body) COMELEC or Commission on Election. QUESTION: Why aren't we supporting them? Election once again is a battle of popularity. We are given another chance to change the mistakes we made in the history. These politicians knows our weaknesses, they will promise everything they could during election period and even eat and exchange their plates with the rest of the poor. They are buying our votes monetary or mentally. Sometimes we are not aware that we already sold our votes to them. What they're showing is an illusions made and perfected by magicians. Now you see them, now you don't. They will just please you because they need to win you votes. Let's not fall into deep *hit once again. Be wise and smarter this time for we hold our future and the future of the next generation. PEOPLE SHOULD NOT FEAR THE GOVERNMENT. THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD FEAR IT'S PEOPLE. A GREAT NATION IS SOMETHING PEOPLE BUILD SO THEY CAN HAVE A PLACE WHERE THEY BELONG!

I love this post. I wish I could copy and paste it allover the mediums that I can get my hands on. The thing is, many people will claim that we are smart when we are voting but if the majority of the population still clings to their trapos (traditional politicians) and be naive in thinking that all politicians will keep their promise, then we're in the long rough run. Also, there are still people who try to vote their leaders due to popularity and as long as this practices persists, we end up with incompetent leaders who think they can get away with everything.

Thank you Janneyvonne! I'm glad you liked my post. This is something that I've noticed as I grow fuller. I lived my life around politics and as time goes by, I see it becoming more cranky and going nowhere. There are times that I am avoiding watching local news since there's nothing new especially now that campaign season is up. If I were to be ask I want Psychological test be part of a candidate's requirements before filling and accepting these people's candidacy and that it should be publicized. So that people of this nation will have it's clear understanding who to vote and who is disqualified. If there's a thing in annulment as psychologically incapacitated there should be something as well in politics. Also If it is possible that the local government should print all the achievements of the politician during his term and there unfinished projects or ongoing projects in the municipal town so at least people would understand who's responsible for this and that and who is not doing their job. This will be a great help for the citizen to come up with a very responsible decision in the next election. I know that there is EPAL campaign by Juana Change but If they will put this in a venue which is mandated by the local government as a proper and only place to put all these tarpaulin, and will only have these information printed I don't think it will be EPAL anymore. There must be a way to clean all these mess that past and present politician did to our city and country but this something must start from us, from the people who voted their elected government officials. But we as well are guilty of being irresponsible voters and citizens. Many of us thought that we can only raise our voice and practice our rights as a citizen of our country during election day but that is already a misconception. In my opinion, an ordinary people who has the right to vote should be responsible for their candidate until they finished their term. If these people are not functioning as they should we can send them a friendly letter to remind them that they might overlook a duty or responsibility. If they will not respond for several times that's the time we file a petition to remove him in the office. Change should start within us. We cannot wait for another election to remove these unnecessary characters in our government.

Elections have gone to so much mud-slinging that I think many just turn it all off and don't listen to any of it as they are just tired of hearing all that complaints and trashing of the opponent back and forth. I know I am! However.. I do listen to the FOX news and get both sides there.. and can make a good decision..but I think most don't bother as they just aren't intelligent enough to realize...there is more to it than Rep or Dem and the mud-slinging (Obama's recent Big Bird remarks and reference to OJ Simpson arrest) he has time to say that but we still dont' know what he plans to do to create jobs in the country. We still dont' know his foreign affairs plans...we don't know anything.. except that he was on "the View" as "eye candy" while the embassy's were being bombed and burned and americans were being killed. It is kind of like the Wallstreet thing last year.. none of them know what they were demostrating about...but they all were!
