Okay I am going to try to write this in a calm manner that will make sense. Although tryis the key word as this has made me very mad.
I can not believe this is happening in the world, let alone, in the United States, but really ANYWHERE in the world this would be disgusting, and it is.
My dad just received a summons to be brought to court over unpaid hospital bills for my mother who has been suffering with cancer for over 3 years. And this is from the hospital that nearly killed her, themselves, at least three times because they did not listen when she told them she was allergic to the dye they gave her for some scans.
My mom obviously stopped paying those bills to that hospital for that reason. We were planning to sue the hospital ourselves except my mom is STILL STRUGGLING AND DOESN'T NEED STRESS!!!! You would think from a hospital they would know this! But that's the disgusting sick thing about this world where money rules and if you die well too f*%$!@ bad!
Not to mention that my mom is sick and has no money we have no money and we live in the poorest county in probably the whole stupid United States! But anyway, just to bug someone with cancer for money makes me sick. Sick, sick, sick.
I think maybe I'm done now.

A friend of mine suggested pro bono also, this is a good choice if we need to go that route. My dad uses twitter and has many congressman following him so I'm sure he will talk about this. My mom went to cancer treatment center in AZ is that different?

The world is beautiful but we still must deal with these institutions, you're right. They will do as they always have, thinking only on money and we must just deal with it.

Here in India there are organisations that one can go to through whom a representation can be made. And these organisations I am told render free service. I am sure there will be many such set ups in the US too. Can you search the Net and look for one. My best wishes are with you.

Hi echo,
I am sorry to hear about your family's plight. This is the reason why I don't really like to go to the hospitals. Many people think that they go to hospitals to get healed but many times, it is the total opposite.
Private hospitals in my place like it when their patients stay longer. The longer the patients stay, the more money these hospitals make. I really hate it when they always promote themselves as being the 'saviour' for sick people. They help you but in return they want your $$$$$$, no $$$$$$$ you get kicked out, or to put it nicely, they will tell you to go to government hospital.
So, like what other mylotters from the US have said, get a pro bono lawyer to help your family's problem. Get support from the appropriate bodies or organizations that can highlight your problem so that this bad hospital will realize their reputation is at stake. I hope everything will turn out well for you and your family. All the best.

Thanks for the reply Micha and i think you are absolutely correct. They do promote themselves as the saviour but I wonder how well they really treat us to get well or if most of it is just our bodies finally getting better on their own. They wish for us to stay in there as long as possible for the money. I know some things you can't get from home like anti biotics and things but they charge an outrageous amount for everything you need any way.
Yep in some places they will even turn you away. In here in the USA too my friend just got turned down because of his insurance. If that sort of action does not explain to people how these instituations work then I don't think they will ever understand.
I haven't heard anything from my dad about what is going to happen, he keeps that sort of thing to himself for the most part. I have suggested these things so I just think he is trying to decide.

First, I'm really sorry to hear about your mom, I do hope she gets some relief. I saw how pathetic our health care system had gotten when an old friend of mine got throat cancer, and during almost all of her last days she battled with medi-cal and insurance to get covered for treatment. Which of course had to be put off while she helplessly searched for coverage. ANYway, I'm wondering if there's some legal aid, or something that you and your father can 1) get some free legal advice 2) even tho lawsuits are stressful you may want to pursue that anyway. Or just finding out what your rights are and how you can get them off your back could relieve alot of stress.
My best friend who has lupus, was prescribed the wrong medicine, it made her loose most of her eyesite. Like your mother, she spoke up and complained, and alerted them to what was happening with her eyesight-- all the while they kept insisting she take it, till she finally got their attention. The hospital gave her a pretty decent out of court settlement. Just threatening the hospital with a lawsuit, may make them back off their legal actions. If you call your local Bar Association, they may be able to direct you towards lawyers who don't get paid unless you get paid, or at least direct you to free or inexpensive legal advice. Don't let that Hospital bully you, they probably are trying to distract you from their error. Best of luck to You and your family will be in my prayers.

Thanks for your reply sarah
I'm unsure what my dad plans to do from here but I know it will not be very pretty. Most likely I am thinking he will do all of those things you mentioned, bring a counter claim against them for that mal-practice. I can't believe the doctors don't listen to their patients. I realize yes they are the doctor but the patient is the one who knows their body the most right? Sickening in itself that it had to come so far for your friend as well to almost lose her eyesight!!
We will need some kind of aid if we're going to persue this legally ourselves but maybe just for them to drop it would be fine for now.

Sorry to hear about your mom and the financial crisis that you're family must be going through! There have been good advice about seeking a lawyer that will work pro bono, attracting media attention and contacting governors, senators whoever else who will listen. Have you been in contact with your local Department of Social Services? The doctors should be held accountable for their negligence while taking "care" of your mom. You and your family are in my prayers!

Thanks for the support and prayers. We haven't done this either, we haven't done much because we knew the stress of what coming against this hospital ourselves would be. But now we're trying to formulate ideas of how to go about this and I've mentioned some things from here, i will also mention this one. These people should absolutely be held accountable it was horrible having to see my mom the way she was after these incidents. But of course the doctors would say this was normal and could happen to anyone, b.s.

Yes I have heard many cases of similar bad mal-practice. I think the people are afraid to go up against hospitals. My dad has voiced similar concerns because of the huge reputation of them in general. It will be overly stressful and difficult.

But think of all the people that were treated like your mom, I'm sure your family probably isn't alone. Sometimes I think doctors think they're a higher power and are above it all, only we should realize they're (doctors) are human and need to be held accountable for their actions. Keep us posted.

That reaLLy sucks!! I am so sorry for your mom and I hope things will go well with her.. On judgement day, I think these huge organizations will find they were heartless many times! It's a very bad thing that medical and healthcare costs so very very much!! And insurance which is supposed to help, including government insurance falls so far short!! I have to wonder how all this will progress, will it get slowly worse, if not quickly! ..I'm afraid that is what I think..

I agree with you. these corporations are beyond heartless and it will be dealt wwith on judgement day. Too bad it can't be handled here more like it should be but that's just the life we live. I appreciate the support. Insurance these days seems like a big joke to me.... sad isn't it?

Sorry to hear about your mother health and the additional stress on all of you from the hospital . I dont know much about the United states policy but anywhere in the world this is inhuman to behave like that .
With all these organization its just business no compassion for anyone . They know if you had the money the bills would have been paid . Money is all they think about , I dont even know what so say about those kinda people.

I am sure our family will be okay but it is hard on us. It isn't right for an institution that caters to good health to put this kind of stress on people. But like you said they don't care they just want the money.

I would be sueing them for malpractice if they almost killed her 3 times with that alergic reaction. Lawyer up I say, I know it may seem stressful but they can't get away with something like that. So disgusting!

Yeah you are right they should NOT get away with it so I think we must do what we're forced to but we should have from the start.

We have horrible health care in the United states. We need money to pay our hospital bills but if we are sick we can't make that kind of money. I know that doctors have to go to school for a long time to know what they know but we are the only country that pays its doctors so much. Doctors here are like rock stars. Big house and nice cars. Yes, you work for your money but why should they get so much?

I have often wondered this myself about the doctors. I think they should get a reasonable amount but sometimes it just seems outrageous. Especially when it comes at the expense of things like this.
