What is the Point of Categorization When You Post Anything Anywhere?

Hi friends and lotters
It is good that the rules at myLot do not specify anything about the Categorization. Many a times our discussions fall in multiple categories and we get the flexibility to post it (our discussion) on a category which we think is more appropriate.
But then, over the past few days, I have found discussions being posted in completely wrong categories. And many a times they have been spoilers instead of being the ones which could have helped. Like a Cancer discussion in Travel or even the Make Money Online in Health. Now this is what baffles me.
I mean how do the starter of such discussions decide on the Category? It ruins my day just like today ... you open up a discussion expecting it to be of some value (this is what they say when you start your discussion and select the category for discussion) and you find the discussion to be something out of nowhere and on that, it is a gloomy sad discussion...
Your take on this, dear ones.
Have a great day
cheers,
theSids.

hi thesids,
I don't know either let them do what they want as long as it is not against mylot rules.
I think it is better than to be a response collector
happy mylotting

Hi bhaby
I know dear that it is not against the rules as if it would have been some of the discussions might have been removed for being in the wrong categories. However it acts as a spoiler sometimes when you wake up and start on Mylot to find discussions not of your preferences being catered to you only because they are in wrong categories.

Sometimes I myself get confused with my topics, to post under which category; anyhow I am successful to post the topic under the right category. I too noticed, posting topics under a wrong category, I passes a comment in my mind ‘how the starter post this topic under this category, doesn't have common sense’ then I leave off the topic (all I do it in my mind only). I don’t think much on that and conclude myself, it is all upto the starter but definitely he/she can select right a category wisely.
I think, posting under wrong category is not violating any guidelines, so…

Yes I have seen some of those discussions that you are talking about that were put in the wrong spot.. Granted there are some categorizes that are more likely to be read then others.. But if you want to put something in that category write about it.. It is pretty simple.

I think the categorization thing is done so we'd get notified when the show up on our interests? But yeah, I've seen stuff about money online in the relationships category and I just went @_@ haha!
I get disappointed too because I was expecting something completely different and I see their post has absolutely nothing to do with the category. I wish they'd be more... relevant. :)

Some of discussions in the wrong categories are simply mistakes and once you have posted the discussion it is too late to move it. That is a reason why a couple of my discussions ended up in the wrong category, and I know other people have experienced the same thing. The rest of them? I am not sure, but it is my impression that some people post their discussions in the popular categories (even if the topics belongs somewhere else) because they think that they are more likely to get responses in the popular categories. Some people are in hurry and just pick the first category that that they think about instead of going through all of the categories in order to find the most appropriate one.
