Getting ready to ride in poor weather.

Finally got around to buying a set of fenders for Wildfire. I ride in a lot of less than perfect weather. Don't like the mud stripe I tend to get on my back if I don't drive very slowly. These fenders are quick release so I can take them off during dry weather although they don't weigh much so I doubt I'll do that. I have pretty good wet weather riding gear so there isn't much I can't ride through anymore. Black and red looks sharp on her don't you think?

Hello koopharper. It is a good idea to have a fender for the racing bike as it prevents the mud from getting onto the back. I used to have a common bike which was equipped with a fender when it was bought. But it seems that a racing bike does not usually have one like a common one. With that fender you have got for the back wheel, it is much more convenient in rainy weather. Have a good day.

Most bicycles here are sold without fenders. In my country bicycles are seen more as sport or recreation rather than transportation. An all weather commuter just about has to have fenders though. Thankfully they are not that difficult to buy or install.

Besides the bonus of getting no mud on your bike that would also prevent Slush (wet snow)and water from getting up there. The fenders actually add something to Wildfire's image, and the money you save on gas riding that bike make it well worth the expense. Wonder what you will add next ^.^

Front fend actually prevents mud from building up on the front derailleur which is a problem that has plagued me in the past. They seize up from all the crud. I know they start working again as soon as I take them off and give them a thorough cleaning. Next add on might be a bell for pedestrians on the recreation path though. Other day I was riding right where Larry bit the dust a couple months ago. Some young lady walking her dog suddenly crossed in front of me without looking. I skidded my way around. One of these days my cat like reflexes might not be enough to save me.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Yes u are very much correct, it is always a lovely time to spend to have a ride in poor weather as everything is so natural around u and also the crowd on the streets are very less. But most importantly, we should be careful while riding during this weather.
What say?

I do need to be extra careful riding in poor conditions. Brakes don't work as well and it is easy to go into a skid. The biggest issue is staying alert because a lot of drivers are not expecting to see a bicycle on the road. For me it is transportation more than it is exercise or pleasure.
