wenger believe now that there are evolution in modern football
he said that now the role of shorter player is more important than several years ago..
want to see example??
the role of Juan Mata for Chelsea, Sergio Aguerro and David Silva for Manchester City, Shinji Kagawa for MU, Santi Cazorla for Arsenal
and don`t forget more than 3 starter eleven of Barcelona are shorter player like Messi, Xavi, Iniesta...
Wenger said that now the competition need a more accurate passing and it can be good for the shorter player..They can run well and very fast in that situation..They have a better ability for that than a taller player..
What do you think about Wenger analysis?? share yours too..

I agree with that assessment for the midfielders. More and more midfielders who are short and have a lower center of gravity are dominating the world of football. But up front and in the defense it is still being ruled by the tall defenders and tall center forwards who have to go for the high balls from the set pieces and long passes.
So yes there is a role for shorter players now but more in the midfield.
Cheers!

Well, I don't really think that shorter player is more important nowadays. Somehow we can't deny that they do have their own advantages. We still need some tall players for defend. Wenger is the best manager in football and I really respect him. By the way, kagawa can't compare to Juan Mata, David Silva and Cazorla, different league, man...

If I am the coach of a football team, I will want good players in my team, regardless of their size. But I would prefer taller players in attack and defense. I would prefer my goalkeeper to be tall too. Midfielders are more flexible. They can be big or small depending on the tactic I will use. But if I have midfielders the size of Xavi and Iniesta, then they have to be skillful players that pass the ball well to play in my team. I prefer a Yaya Toure size anytime.

for me, batistuta is ideal..
he is taller..he have good foot in left and right foot
he can run fast in 50 meters with the defenders..
his header is terrific..His finishing rate and touch are above at another forward..
he can make score too from free kick..
and don`t forget, he is captain..it means don`t doubt about his leadership

I think passing accuracy has nothing to do with shoreter players . Even tall players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Rooney are accurate passers of the ball. But yes, short players usually have great flexiblity and reflexes. So they are quite important as far as a team is concerned.
If you see the names of short players which you listed , only spainards and argentene people are involved.

i don`t think tall player isn`t important anymore
but football is the sport which didn`t require the physical like playing basketball
maybe it`s seems impossible if there are shorter basketball player..but football can accomodate and gives special place for the talented player even they are shorter
