Can any of you mylotters tell me why Obama got the Nobel Peace Award? I never figured out the reason why he was awarded it in the first place. I really haven't seen anything from his past and definitely nothing since he has been President that would even suggest him winning this award.

Why did Jimmy Carter get it, or Yasser Arafat, or Gorbachev? National leaders seem to win a lot of them. I can understand an Albert Schweitzer or Mother teresa, or Desmond Tutu, but some of the recent years have left me scratching my head. This year's takes the cake: The entire EEC??

The Peace Prize is as politicised as the Times Man of the Year (e.g Hitler and Stalin).

Totally agree with you! There should be qualifications and standards for some one to be eligible to win this award. Even the name "Nobel Peace" should stand for something. At least have someone that has contributed to "peace"!

He got it because he was the first black president of the US, which he isn't, of course, because he's only half black. Most people don't stop to think of that.
Even if he was black, how could just being something (black, left handed, female/male, redheaded) qualify anyone for a Nobel Peace Award?

exactly what i was going to say. but i couldnt figure how to phrase it since everyone is so touchy about that. you put it just right so many people have been baseing everything on that and i really think its why hes going to win presedency again. eeeerrr!

Totally agree with you both! I think there have been people of different nationality win the Nobel Peace Award. But there has never been a "black" (mulatto) President. It seems unfair that he was awarded that based only on that qualification.

Although I don't know who won the Nobel Peace Award this time. But I think it is unlikely to be Obama. At least I haven't heard it yet. I also don't think that Obama is qualified to win it. I can't see he has done something good for the peace. In fact I don't think the politicians can win it.

The Noble Peace Prize isn't for peace. I have heard some say Obama received it because the Nobel Committee wanted to tick off Bush..lol
I don't know what the Prize is suppose to be because Hitler, Stalin, Castro, Chavez were all nominated..of course Obama is no where near being that bad but it shows you it is not about peace...

There is no logical reason why he should have gotten. I don't know who is on that committee but they really don't know what they are doing and apparently haven't for some time. Obama has done nothing for world peace. He hasn't even tried to get the two major political parties to work better together in this country.
