Had My First IELTS Mock Test Yesterday

Philippines
October 14, 2012 3:42am CST
Yesterday was my first day of IELTS review and immediately right after entering the door our facilitator told us that we'll have a mock reading test.It was nerve-wracking for a first time IELTS test taker like me.! The timer which was just right in front of me made me panic even more lols. It was just a mock reading test and for the first time in my life I felt I didn't know how to read English. Any lotters here who have taken IELTS test? Please give some pieces of advice and tips.

Haven't had an experience with the IELTS mock reading test but this kind of test is also done with few call center companies as part of the test/interview process. I suggest that be yourself, have confidence and faith on yourself, then everything will be fine

Thanks Jaiho! Indeed! That's what I was supposed to do haha. blame it on the timer lols. Anyways, it's just a mock test and after this we'll have another mock so I am sure I will get the hang of it before the real test. I am keeping my fingers crossed

Just keep in mind that those people who give the test (mock interview/reading test) are also human....they won't eat you (hahaha) That's what we always taught to our student/s (Training centers)

I didn't have problems with the facilitators. I have undergone several interviews before. For me. interviews are just like talking to someone who wants to get to know me more. It's the timer that made me feel uncomfortable.

Your experience of taking the IELTS test is very hilarious especially the timer part. I truly hope you did real great and passed your IELTS test with flying colours. I am going to take the test soon. Therefore, I am working on the preparation by practicing on listening, reading and writing exercise. I found a few very useful websites which could help me greatly to improve my English proficiency. One of them is Mylot. By reading and participating in Mylot discussion, I found that I could enhance my language fluency effectively. Besides, I am looking for some sites which offer some free online English listening training. We have to answer some simple questions with multiple choices of answer. The scores will be shown right after we answer all the questions. By going through these listening exercise, we can improve our listening capabilities. English is not our primary language in our country and it's also not my mother tongue. Therefore, I need to learn and practise hard in order to get a better result in the test.

Thanks a lot Belle! Life is extremely busy for me here as well. I spent the whole morning and afternoon on my day time job. After back from home, I have to start my English practice right after my dinner. Usually I will visit the websites which provide free listening lessons. After several rounds of practice, I will start to work on Mylot discussions, where I can read and respond to discussions with interesting topics. I am not sure how well these practice can help me, because I have never attended any actual IELTS test or similar mock test before. I hope these exercises could more or less simulate the actual test situation. But I doubt there is some differences between typing with keyboard and writing with pen or pencil. Anyhow, I still try my best to get as many self training as possible before the test. I hope you are still able to spare some time for your practice even though you are quite tied up with stuffs. Good luck and have a nice day in Mylot!

Goodluck to us Cheongyc! These days I've been very busy with other stuff so I don't have time to practice at home so I really focus and jot down all the tips I get from the coaches at the review center.
