RINGWORM is not a worm! It is a skin disease caused by a fungus. It is usually presented as a circular patch on the skin with a scaly center bordered by a raised reddish lesion. It is very itchy and can cause severe discomfort. It can easily spread on the skin if left untreated. Like most fungal infections, ringworm can be passed on to one person to another by coming in contact with an infected skin, sharing of bath towels, blankets or clothes. It can also be carried by animals, most commonly by cats. Since the fungus thrive in warm and moist areas, they usually, but not always, proliferate in sweaty and hidden areas of the skin such as the groin.
To care for ringworm:
1. Keep your skin clean and dry.
2. Don't wear clothing that rubs or irritates the area
3. Wash clothes and clothes everyday while you are infected
4. Apply over-the-counter antifungal or drying powders, lotions, or creams that
contain miconazole, clotrimazole, or similar ingredients.
5. Go to a dermatologist and ask for a recommended prescription to treat the ringworm.
Some home remedies:
1. Soak a towel in apple cider vinegar and apply it on the affected skin several times a day
2. Rub a slice of raw papaya over the infected skin areas.
3. After washing the skin, apply crushed mustard seeds to the skin.
4. Crush 1-2 pieces of garlic and apply it to the skin, you may feel a little sting but this is OK.
5. Use sea salt. Apply bath salts on the skin. This can help dry up the ringworm. Do this everyday until the ringworm is gone.
Ringworm can be treated but you have to be very religious regarding the treatment regimen because most fungal infections recur if not treated well.
I hope you got some helpful points!
