Halloween - Can Christians Participate?

Halloween is the vigil of All Hallows Day or All Saints Day, an important Catholic feast. Almost everyone (especially kids) participate and dress up as monsters, witches, demons, ghosts, ghouls, and werewolves. Isn’t the whole theme one of darkness, death, fear, threats, destruction and evil? Participating Christians would defend their participation by saying "we're just enjoying" or "it's not bad". The day of Halloween is already near, can Christians really participate? What are your thoughts brothers and sisters in Christ?

Honestly, I've been seeing many Christians participating in this activity. They are even excited to dress their own kids and themselves. I think that they aren't aware of it. Or if they are already aware of this, it is hard for them to stop following traditions. They say it is not bad and they aren't hurting anyone for participating in this kind of activity. I do think it is just an excuse. We can't ignore the fact that this isn't from God, as it has dark origins. They may not be hurting other people for joining, but they are indeed harming their own spirituality. Just my thoughts Thanks.

The saying 'if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck' may fit here! What is the difference in dressing in Biblical characters versus other costumes? It is still observing the day. What is the difference in calling the celebration a 'harvest festival' instead of Halloween? It is still celebrating the time and the season. I agree that they are harming themselves and they are taking their innocent children along with them. I found it simple to explain to my children that we did not celebrate that day and there was no other option. I did not want to teach my children to beg, teach them to interact with strangers, and did not want to cause sleep disturbances from the blood and gore that so many think they have to display in honor of Halloween.

Still, this depends on the perception of individuals. But, personally, it is not a good idea to participate, because its like celebrating for the monsters, demons etc. For me, we should not tolerate this kind of act.

We have the same idea then. You may visit http://dlministries.wordpress.com/2012/01/21/halloween/ for more info about Halloween.
