Being happy is a state of emotion. You cannot decide to bear a natural happiness or a sad. you can take a decision to be happy. Sometimes forcefully. But it is artificial. Actually we are human being and emotions are the characteristics that we are a living human. Yes, you can make effort for the outcomes that make you happy.

I agree my friend. It's our decision to be happy.
If we think that the problems are getting you down, you can choose to do things that can make you happy so the burden of the problem will not be that much.
Like if you and your boyfriend just broke up, you can choose to cry or to go out and enjoy with your friends and be happy. That way, you will at least momentarily will not feel the pain.

Hi dong! For me being happy is an effect if see things in a positive angle. I had heard from the priest this morning about a story of two women who woke up and went to the window. The other one look downward and see the mud on the ground, so she said, What an awful day! The other one who looked out of the window look up and see the sky, and said what a wonderful day! So she feel happy for herself because she look on things on a positive way.

I'm the marketing assistant for Robert Scheinfeld, a NY Times best selling author who just wrote a book on how to be happy. It's called "The Ultimate Key To Happiness". It offers a v-e-r-y different approach to defining what happiness really is, and a step by step path to experience it all the time, no matter what's going on around you. The Internet has gotten so complex. So many options. Can anyone here share ideas for how to get the word out there about this important new book? I'd love to hear your ideas. I'm sure there are tons of ideas that I've never thought of before.

It is a decision but it also is an effect of the occurrence in the environment. There are many factors to happiness, for me. You can decide to be happy for something and then there is also the instantaneous feeling of joy or happiness due to a good occasion or positive result.

yes, i believe that being happy is a decision. although the environment we are in may cause us to be frustrated or unhappy, but it is still our choice whether to think positively or negatively regarding the situation.

Thanks a ton for the discussion. Well i think in order to have happiness in our lives, we do not have to take any prior decisions as it happens involuntarily. It is the work that we do, the people around us and the mentality that we have that is the parameter of the happiness in our lives. We can neither buy nor sell happiness, happiness happens all of its own.

Yes, that's right! Like a famous sentence told you 'Don't Worry, Be Happy' surely made a lot of people focus on happiness by simply telling them not to worry or fear, and just be happy. One of the better things ever said is - 'The only thing in life that doesn’t change is change', and in our life we have the power to make the necessary changes if we want to. Even if we find ourselves in an unbearable situation we can always find solace in the knowledge that it too invariably must and will change. To be happy is relatively easy; it begins with a decision. Simply just decide to be a happy person.

I also believe that.
Being Happy is a decision one makes for himself/herself.
We can either be happy or lonely, depending on our outlook in life.
We should always welcome good vibes and try to live each day with happy thoughts.
We must not be affected by what other people are saying behind our backs. The more we try to please others, the more we suffer.
Be happy and be content with our lives.
