I was 14 years old in 1987 on my first and second flight. My ears hurt when the plane began its descent. For the next couple of years I traveled by ferry and train. Then in 1990 I went on my third flight and my ears hurt just as much.
I flew off to Tunisia and St Lucia in 1991 when I was 19 years old. My ears still hurt and I got a bad nose bleed. I flew around the world in 1993 and 1994.
It wasn't until 1997 that a friend gave me a lovely present: a pair of ear planes. I put those into my ears and they stopped me getting any ear pain. Wow! I still get pair of ear planes just before another flight. They are small plastic like screws that I put into my ears. I am delighted I can fly without any ear pain nowadays.
When did you go on your first flight?
Did you ever suffer from ear pain whilst on a plane?
How happy do you feel flying on a plane?

Oh.Even now, I used to hear this kind of complaints with my other friends but when I went on the plane I didn't really experience any earaches. When I feel that my ear has something inside, I just swallow my saliva and it will disappear.
My first time in the airplane was nice but it wasn't really what am I expecting. I felt dizzy because of the air turbulence. I hated it. Even if my flight is just an hour. But other than that, my experience was good. I even saw people like an ant. I also saw the clouds.

I think that you enjoyed seeing the small things out of the window. Yes, air turbulence can be ever so nasty and unpleasant. It was a shame that you felt dizzy on your plane ride. There are so exercises that a person can try to get rid of ear pain. I am glad the swallowing worked for you.

I first flew to India but it was not direct so it was two transits. I flew from FIJI to AUCKLAND for the first time.I loved the air bus. I used to dream of it. I know my ears pain too due to pressure change. But is was okay when it went up in the air. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

I am lucky in a way, I can't remember the first time I flew as I was a baby at the time, but in the other flights I had as a child and as an adult I nearly always had earaches, I did chew gum though and it does help, the chewing motion helps with the pressure build-up in the eardrum. Never heard about ear planes, by your description they sound like plugs used for swimming? I should look it up as it would really be worthwhile not having the pain, thank you for the tip.

I was a child when I travelled by plane for the first time, but I don't remember how old I was. It is was a short, domestic flight and my parents and I were going to visit some relatives who lived on an island called Bornholm. I thought that it was exciting to fly for the first time and everything was a new experience. I remember that my mother didn't share my excitement. She is afraid of flying, but it was much faster to fly, so my parents had decided that we were going to fly there. I didn't experience any pain or other problems I just enjoyed the flight. Today I am also happy when I am flying on a plane and I dream about the exciting new places that I am going to visit when I arrive at my destination.

The 'ear-popping' thing is annoying isn't it? Even moreso when you have an ear infection, as I had on the way back from the 'old' Yugoslavia in 1986. It was my FIRST holiday abroad as well and the 'plane itself was 'second hand from Sweden' as the guy next to me kept pointing out. He was fascinated by how old the thing was and kept taking photographs and CHAIN-SMOKING the whole way there.
How things have changed lol.
I must admit, I do prefer the bigger aircraft as John is 6' 1" tall although to get the best leg-room you have to pay a premium for the seats at the front.
Mind you, judging by that programme on Channel 4 last week 'The Plane Crash' seat 7A got thrown out of the aircraft in a simulated crash in the desert in Mexico. The 'peasants' at the back would've survived.
Did you see it? You missed a gem if you did but it will be online (4OD) I would think.
