Spare things at home.

Spare things at home - Emergency stuff!
October 18, 2012 7:49am CST
In my home we see to it we keep spare things in case an unexpected guest will visit us e.g a new toothbrush, soap,a new towel, slipper and even pajamas. In case someone will spend night in our home.We keep spare things for guest use.And not so embarrassing to let the guest use a things which has been used by others. And other reason,my wife is very particular in her things, she is very strict not to share those personal things for hygiene sake.Maybe she right. Its necessary to keep some thing for other to use in case of emergency. How about you friends? Do you ready something for your guest to use just in case? I want to know your views?

well, it's really not right to let guests borrow personal things at home. i think that is best and a good idea to prepare spare things like those mentioned when guest appear or spend the night. we don't usually do such a thing, because normally guests bring their own things whenever they spend the night with us but there are extra things that we do have at home that haven't been use so maybe we could just let them use it if in case they didn't have anything with them.

Hi montevilla, In my home I do have spare tooth brush, towels, soap and also a pair of bathroom slippers which we can lend to guests when they come home unexpectedly. It is good to have them handy just in case they have forgotten some of their personal belongings.Once one of my guests, in fact a distant cousin came home with nothing since her flight got delayed for almost 40 hours and her baggage had already been checked in. I had to give her everything including underclothes.Thankfully I had a fresh new pair which I had bought for myself and also a dress while she was at home and her own was washed and was drying...This happens ,and of course we have to help out in whatever way we can...have a nice day

I also like to keep extra stuff like those for guess . I think that is the case , we also have special dishes for strangers to eat from . Unless the person is like family then they can chose anything to eat from in the kitchen . You can tell much from strangers and they cannot tell much from you so to make everyone more comfortable its best to new thing for them to used , like tooth brush , towel etc .

Your wife is quite scientific minded. One should not use other used stuff and its a part of hospitality that should available for both expected and unexpected guest.

I keep spare things too because it is better to give the guest new things rather than used one. I am particular about it and my hubby too. Once something finishes we bring new ones again to make sure it is there.

Good practice too.I think we need to do this for others sake and for the family too. Thanks for responding!

Your very prepared more prepared than we are at house. We have sheets and things for the spare bed.We have probably got a clean unused tooth brush for them to use as well.Though we haven't got spare slippers or pyjamas.Though if people stop at our house it's usually a planned visit an they usually bring the things they will need with them or my mum gets it ready for their visit.Though to be honest we don't have guests stopping that often. Most of our family live close enough not to need to stop overnight. The only time lots of people to spend the night is Christmas and mum gets everything prepared before.

I think this is actually a very practical thing. We also do this in our household, but only with toiletries like toothbrush and soap. It's really first and foremost for hygienic purposes. We also have some spare slippers, too. Unexpected guests could really drop in at any time so it's really best to set aside some things for them to use.

Yes and its very good practice too.I admire people who have the same thought as this. Thanks!

Yes when I have the extra money or there is a great sale; I alway buy more then one.. Stuff for the bathroom and extra food in the kitchen.. I have three in my little family but I keep a set of dishes for 12... Dishes are done every day, I have had comments made about that.. I do not want to be caught unprepared.. That is so embrassing for all parties.. Even if you do not have guest for a while.. Stocking up a little is a good thing.. Then if there is a check that is a little short or the mishap that happens when you least expect it.. It is like a bank but you have what you need.. Not at the moment because of other complacation my home is not stocked the way I would like it to be.. It makes me nervous.. If something was to happen I would be caught of guard right now.. Hopefully I will be able to change it soon..

We don't typically have unexpected guests in our home, so this is actually never been something that I have thought about. Now, I do always make sure that I keep a clean towel that an unexpected guest can use when they are visiting at our home. In addition to that I also like to let friends use the same shampoo and shower gel that we use in our home. Since we don't use bar soap, I have no kind of problem at all with sharing my soaps and shampoo with overnight guests.

That's definitely a "yes" for me. We usually have those spare at home. It is great way to show that we are hospitable, that we really care about their needs. I value their reactions, I want them to feel comfortable on my home. I don't expect something in return but who knows, I'll also be their guest in their homes in the future. i wanted to be treated the same way though. Thanks
26 Oct 12
I totally agree with you.Sometimes we need to visit friends and relatives I think though we are not expecting something in return they might somehow remember what you have done for them. Thanks for responding!

hi, my mother is very particular about all these things. she always keeps clothes ,soaps and other things separate, for guests. Not even the bathroom. we have a separate bathroom for guests. This is very important ,i feel. so that they also feel good and relax.

Thats a very good practice too.I agree with you regarding on this.

I always stock up on canned goods here. They are kinda expensive here. So when they go on sale I buy a few extras. Even dish and cloths soaps. Helps save alittle money.
