So there's a new decision in the UK, Doctors will receive an annual appraisal with a decision every five years on whether they are fit to continue working.
I'd like to know what everyone thinks. Also, does anyone know whether, if the Doctor has a serious problem, such as something that would be threatening to the life of patients, can something be done at the annual appraisal, or would the problem be allowed to continue to the five year check point?

Thanks a ton for posting this discussion. I think this is indeed a great news for all of us. Most of the time once can find news of patients complaining of ill treatments and some flaws in the check ups by the doctors and i am sure with this move, everyone would be alarmed and they would take their jobs seriously and with proper inspection, we can get to know who all are perfect for check ups and all.
What say?

Yeah, I think it's a great idea, my only worry is that five years is a very long time for a problem to continue.

I think this is a great idea. But I, too, think five years is a long time. I also wonder if these appraisals will really do any good. Who's doing the appraising? Doctors have always been known to cover up for each other, even in cases of extreme negligence. Time will tell, I guess.
