Why Do People Keep Thinking that the Soul is Immortal?

Even 'Christ Church at the Ark' (email: laidbashour at clearwire.net) says it is. But it SO is not!
I've heard it said (by the leader of a 'Mars Hill'-church) that the soul is like 'the light' from a 'light-bulb' (body) with 'electricity' (God's Spirit-breath) running through it; you flip off the electricity or unplug the light-bulb, the light isn't 'dead somewhere!' It just never is anymore!
That's another reason why I don't think you go anywhere after you die---"you" doesn't exist anymore when you're dead!

The soul is like the light that comes from the 'light-bulb' (body) when the 'electricity' (spirit) is moving within it. When the spirit stops moving, the body is burnt-out and the soul ceases to exist; like when you turn off the electricity ... the light doesn't 'go anywhere,' it just 'is no more!'
