He tried to eat - what?

Last night, after a long 2 hour nap in the afternoon, I was talking with the roomie before going to sleep. We were sitting on my bed and petting cats. Kind of planning what we were going to do today.
Then we heard a funny sound.
We looked around and there was Rygel, sitting on the window sill in my bedroom.
Now, just to remind folks, my bedroom is tiny. I have a twin bed up against the wall, under the one window that has a window unit in it.
The distance to the other wall is about 2 feet at most, there's about 8 to 10 inches at the end of the bed from the other wall.
So, I barely have room for a tall, narrow chest of drawers and a metal stand that I put my sheets and pillow on because the cats will drag them off the bed if I leave them on it.
So, I put my cell phone on the window sill, kind of tucked under the a.c.
Well, Rygel was trying to pick up the phone, with his teeth...
He slid it over some, so I grabbed it.
"Is he trying to eat your phone?" the roomie asked.
"I don't know."
"Well, don't let him drop it behind the bed, that'd be a pain..."
"Oh, I've done it, without cat help," I told her.
I put it back on the sill and the roomie shoved it further under the a.c.
Rygel, looked at it, then started licking with the plastic that was still on the cord, because we hadn't been able to get it all off.
"What's he doing now?" she asked.
"Just messing with the plastic around the cord."
With that, the roomie headed off to bed. I lay down and pet Rygel who left.
I guess I'm going to have to make sure Rygel can't get his teeth on my phone now! He's so "helpful!"
You have a helpful pet like Rygel? (remember, this is the big cat in my avatar!)

Hi Elic, maybe Rygel had to make a call. I had a cat that liked to lick plastic bags. She didn't try to chew or eat it. Just licking it was all she wanted. But I had another cat, Abby, and she liked to carry things around in her mouth. She used to pull the toilet paper off the roll so I started keeping it on the edge of the tub until I got a plastic cover for it so that cats can't get the tp. One day she came walking into the dining room with a whole roll of tp in her mouth. She had it by the side so she looked like a walking tp holder. There was a trail of it on the floor going under her and out between her hind legs so she was walking funny to keep from stepping on it. She was small but she had some really strong jaws. Once I found a box of tea (24 bag ct) under the dining room table with little punctures all across one edge. She had brought it all the way upstairs from the storage shelf in the basement. She was a character.

I bet you could market a tp holder that looks like a cat. I have had so many cats over the years, but it has been a while since I had one that would shred the tp. I got such a laugh out of this post.

Hi GG, that's a great idea! That would sell really good. Too bad I don't know how to make one. Abby did look really funny. A real Kodak moment.
Elic, I would have kept the door closed but the two cats I had then (Abby & Hamilton) couldn't stand closed doors for some reason. With the exception of the front and back doors every door was open at least a little. Closets, everything. Otherwise all you could hear was scratching and loud crying, as if there was some great catastrophe going on behind that closed door. I'd go and open it, they'd stick their heads in, look around, then turn and walk away. I don't know what it was with those two. What's with the Siamese and plastic? That's funny. I like Siamese because they're so vocal. Do yours like to talk a lot? Do you remember the Disney movie "Lady and the Tramp"? I saw it when I was a kid and I remember it didn't do much for their image.

I don't know, it sounds to me like he was intent on making a really important phone call. I do have an old cat that believes it his function in life to clear the top of any table or shelf. Is that the kind of help that you were referring to? It happens.

I've had any number of cats who think their function is to clear tops of things. We were reorganizing a few shelves in the kitchen, included in that was taking plastic tubs out of one, and Daisy was doing her best to knock them off the table!

DJ would be a plastic loving cat, too,I think..an (empty) supermarket ziplock baggie that had contained chicken strips was the chew toy du Jour that got "borrowed" Yesterday, and I heard earlier this unusual sound coming from the DVD player on top of the TV..I had never removed the "screen protector" plastic over the DVD display since getting the machine a few years ago,now..the sound was the sticky unpeeling of the plastic by my helpful furry assistant!

I'm getting the feeling my reply here is being judged from the top of the sofa where I'm sitting, and DJ is watching...

Long ago and far away, if I wouldn't get up out of bed when Mona thought I should, she would start knocking things off my dresser...

How cute is that! Cats are so funny and they seem to know exactly what they want, haha. He just wanted to see if he could get that phone all on his own..sweet.
I love his name Elic...do you name your kitties or do they come to you already named?
When Kash was alive she use to love plastic..any kind but especially plastic bags from shopping. I tried to keep them far away from her though because she was playing with one once and got it stuck around her neck. She took off like a bat with this thing flapping in the wind behind her. Unfortunately, she ended up hurting her leg by banging into a wall. That cost a nice little amount of money. She healed though and all was well.
Better keep your phone in a safe place or you'll have some long distance calls on your phone that YOU didn't make, hahaha!

The ones that come as kittens we name, the roomie named Rygel because he looked, from behind and eating, like the a Muppet character named Rygel on Farscape.
Adults we generally leave their names alone, unless they have a previously used name, don't like to confuse ourselves with repeated names.

Great name for a kitty, very unique. Well, all your names for the kitties are unique but this one just sticks out to me..really cute!

My SIL has a beautiful cat, Punkin, who she calls her "chemical cat". Punkin loves plastic, tap water, anything artificial. I guess something about the taste of the various artificial stuff appeals to her!
I would NOT stow my sheets and pillow, that's where I draw one of my many lines. My dogs sleep on and in my bed but if they would drag the sheets off the bed I'd shut my door. Did you know, they have found out that people who go to bed in a bed that's been made up nicely sleep better than those that don't? Do you have to make your bed every night before you sleep?! My dogs are spoiled but your kitties take the prize...

I pretty much have to tear up a nicely made bed to be comfortable anyway so no, I don't make it up.
In fact, most of the summer I've only pulled a sheet and a pillow back in with me and don't sleep with the sheet over me.
I've been told that plastic bags have a kind of fish oil on them, but I'm not sure I believe that since I've only had a few interested in licking them...

[b]Ha! Why do you think you come in each morning to find stuff knocked all over the rug?! Helpful little Minnie, that's why--especially if she decides I should awaken & give her some treats!
And who could forget the yen for rubber bands our cat has? I never could keep a sack in the trash can; putting a rubber band around it to keep it from slipping only proved irresistible to him. All day & all night I'd hear him trying to get it off...streeeeetch--THWACK! Streeeeetch--THWACK!! "Helpful" doesn't begin to describe that obsessed cat!
It's a good thing we love him, huh.

I have not had a cat or other pet who was so "helpful"! I have heard other people's stories! My younger brother and his wife have 5 cats. They had a problem with the cats diong their business in the plants! My sister-in-law had huge plants and planters! To stop the cats doing that Deana got rid of the big plants. She has plants but they are smaller. For awhile they had a little electric waterfall in the living room. Those little stinkers would drink out of it! Well Deana did get rid of that! When I visit over there, one cat is always on the counters and table in the kitchen! Mew sometimes gets sprayed with a spray bottle with bottle in it or picked up and put on the floor! I am sure you have the problem of cats jumpimg on everything! Animals are funny!
