can i ask.. is it normal for a medium poodle to have a heat cycle every other month? We got a medium poodle and she's 1yr and 8 months old. she's been given to us when she's already 1yr old and 2 months. and we are wondering why she bleed every other month. we want to take her to the Vet but i still want an opinion from others if its normal before we proceed to the vet.

I don't think what happens to your Poodle is normal. I'd take her to the vet to find out the reason she bleeds every other month. From what I know, a dog should come in heat two or three times a year, if not less often. My previous dog used to come in heat every ten or eleven months. The dog I have now was spayed before her first heat. Maybe you should consider spaying as an option, especially that you said the dog was a gift, so you don't expect her to mate and give birth.

Are you sure she has a heat cycle every other month? I mean, with all the symptoms? Because dog's heat includes other symptoms, beside the minor bleeding, you know. I think you should ask a veterinarian, she could have a different physical condition, maybe that's some kind of illness. Take good care of her.

I have got two miniature poodles. One is male and the vet stopped him from being fertile in an operation. The other is a female and she comes into season around three times a year. She was born in 2006 and he was born in 2004. It sounds like your poodle comes into season a lot more than mine but she is much younger. I would suggest you see your local vet. Good luck.

hello chubbychubchub I think it is normal that your dog heat. you may research about your dog characteristics so you know what is the normal cycle. if ever your research turned to be negative this is the proper way to consult a veterinarian.
