Is there life after death?

Is it even possible to maintain your consciousness intact even if your body is dead already? Consciousness is only able to be manifested by people through the brain. And the brain itself is only able to produce such consciousness because it is alive and a part of our living body. However, i know people in our community that claim to have moved away from their body's during the time they had near death experiences. Even a kid had made such a claim. Kids have always been known to be honest human beings since they haven't been corrupted by the world. If and only if, life after death is true and it truly does exist, it supports claims of the church that every one has souls. Souls that will be judged someday.
