Hello friends,
As we all know money is the root cause of all evil. Similarly money is also important to lead a good life. Those who have it in abundance , never realize the importance . But we find many people who work very hard for one meal a day. Well i realized this few years back and still realize it when ever i see some people. Empty pockets teaches us how to be humble and appreciate the simple things in life. When pockets are full, we have the feeling of something fancy ,something new or something unnecessary yet pleasurable things. So after seeing some people suffering , i started thinking or i should say planning how to save money and avoid unnecessary things. Friends, what do you think, any of your experiences. I did not mention few examples here, which taught me how to use the money. which i would like to share as the discussion continues.

when my wallet is empty, i learn how to eat the simplest food.
but i make it a habit to save money every payday so in the future i will have something to spend. my savings is just my savings and when i ran out of allowance, i don't get from my savings. if uncontrollable, i make sure that i will replace it on my payday..

That's good to hear that you will make use of your beautiful responses here to help you with saving.
Really, your mind should be strong enough to control your cravings.
Be careful when you see so beautiful things, your mind might get weak and spend your savings again.

Hello prashu, nice topic! :)
All people can have money. The question is, how well can you handle money if you have it?
You see, there are people who easily gets money as winning prize on lotto or other gaming events or raffle prizes. I can say they are lucky to won that prize. But then, as they say, when money is gained easily, it will lose easily as well.
If the money you get from your hardwork and all your patience and sweat and blood, you know how to value it well. The more hardwork you've done to get that money, the more valuable it would be for you to see how much it's worth to let it out.
Like what you said, when people lived all there lives being poor or having less money, they learn how to be humble and do what is right for their dignity as well.
SOme people who lived in rich life from the start, don't know how to value people around them cause all they see are they can buy all things using their money.

do you know these rich people personally?
I bet it's hard to have a child like that. You know, it can also be the parent's fault why their child became like that.
That's why parents have to mould their children at a very young age and learn to discipline them in order for them not to be treated as trash as they get old.
Too bad the parents are also suffering by the attitudes of their children.
If a child has been taught well and disciplined to have better attitudes, parents won't face too much problem about it...

yes people who have excess money , (not all) spend it ,they don't know the value of it. I know one family ,hey are very rich has only one son.The father is a business man and mother is in some education field. Each and every person has one car ,that too the costly ones in their family. The sad thing is, the boy is so used to luxuries he never studied properly , didn't even complete his high school.
He is with bad company, parents tried to change him many times, but in vain. When they started to be strict with him, he ran away from his house.
They brought him home ,after much effort and the police was also involved. so they left he as he want. He comes home when ever he want , takes money from the cupboard and leave home.
parents are afraid to do anything with the fearing of loosing him.I said this because ,people with excess money is misusing it.But there are so many who are dying due to lack of one meal per day atleast.
money is very important , at least we should be able to afford two meals a day.

Oh you bet it does. My mom even had to experience this herself now and well she sure feels she needs to be guarded and reserved with how she handles her money. :D i think this is common to all. when you have not much money you are looked down by people who would think you probably are up to no good. its also hard to have nothing during emergency.

My dad used to work overseas for decades. We are well-fed & dressed by our mom. But the catch is my dad never gives even half of his income to us. It goes mostly to his extended family and in online scams. Because my mom is good in saving, she was able to put up apartments which she rents out until now. Majority of their properties were my mom's initiative. Should she have been extravagant in spending, we wouldn't be here right now. And because of that, among the family, I was more aggressive when it comes to savings and investment. I am the only one who knows how to do stocks, has life insurance with mutual funds, online investment, does MLM, sells online etc. I may not have seriously experienced what it is to have nothing. But I extremely value every cent and I really dream big. Bit by bit everything is falling into its place...

This is indeed very true and applies to all of us. We should respect the value of money and learn how to save for the rainy day. I am trying to follow the first rule: PAY YOURSELF FIRST and make it a habit so that I can accumulate my savings for future needs but sometimes I tend not to do this due to unavoidable obligations and responsibilities that needs to be attended to. Despite all of these, we should always make it a point to save. A small amount once accumulated will go a long way.

yes , money comes and goes, its not permanent , we should learn to respect money, but people with abundance doesn't realize it, they never care about ,but they realize when the money starts leaving them.

I do agree with you. At times, when we have reasonable amounts of money(not abundant, yet reasonable for essential+some luxury things), we throw away all precautions, and also humility, and do not fully realize its importance. However, when we are having a lot many expenses and not able to buy even ordinary things, we feel the pinch. We realize its importance, and not to be too much proud, if we are having a lot of it.
Nice discussion, and I hope more and more people would respond to this one.

yes friend, when we are full we don't get that realization, and we take it for granted, when ever we get food on time , we never realize what actually is hunger, but when we are with out food then we understand what actually is it , similar with money.
thanks a lot

I don't think its money I think it is credit cards. People seem to think they have to live beyond their means and how do you do that? Have several credit cards! People don't know how to appreciate the simple things any longer. Keeping up with the Jones' is all important and owning every gadget available. Save money? What is that? We need to make personal rules of conduct. Only eat out so many times a week, budget, prioritize bills and money spending, etc. That is how to save money. It is said by financial experts that people should have enough money saved to live for atleast three months. It's not easy.

In Tamil we have a phrase " even a small pin will be useful -- for taking out the food stuck in our teeth."
"Small drops make ocean".
yes. savings will help in times of need. But with the inflation around us --money is losing its real value. still it is required.
I use to take one new lic policy every year when I got increment and those policies helped me when the moneys were returned to me. but its value was not much. still it is useful.
One must save at least 20% of his earnings per month,.

20 percent!!! That is a lot!!!
But fair I suppose..I was told it was 33 percent for inflation requirements, 33 percent for medicals and other needs such as home loans, and children's education, and 34 percent for present needs including clothes and any enjoyment. So it meant cut the cloth according to your needs. I was glad Mr. Murthy's advise worked for me. He also told me to ensure everything is in order by the time you touch 45 because later on you would tend to forget things and everything would become strenuous to manage. I was a bit late, but am glad I followed his advise. He was a chartered accountant. Just a fleeting advise. Funny that I followed it seriously. :)

A man with abundance of money feel life as really simple. Money helps them to get what ever they need but there are many people who work hard to go through each day. Sometimes due to some unfavorable reasons they are not able to work on some days and due to this simple and humble reason they are not able to get the money for having the food for the day.
We people are very lavish. We people have things to meet our needs. We have have money to meet our shelter and to meet our needs but there are some people who don't have money to meet them. So I would ask each and every one to spent time time for them to help as well to lend prayers them.

Hi friend, yes, surely empty pockets teach us a lot of things. If we have extra money, we will spend it lavishly for unwanted things. While we are running out of money we come to know about its importance. We must avoid unwanted spending and save money for our future, it will help us whenever we need money badly. Saving is always the best thing and every one must keep it up in their life

Previously i did reply to a discussion on "Money Matters". That discussion gives really good explanation about dealing with money matters. Money is not the root of all evil, but "lovers of money" is the root of all evil. Money itself is not evil, but lovers of money is evil. We need money to survive in this world, and without money, there is no way to live. However, due to the greed in man for money, and love for money are the main reason of the root cause of all evil.
On the one hand, yes, empty pockets do teach us how to be humble and appreciate things in life. When people are not wealthy, they know how to give and share. However, as they climb higher and earn more thus becoming wealthy, they start to think only for themselves and look down on others. Giving and sharing becomes something difficult in life, and not as easy as before. This is because they cannot let go of the money they earn for their pleasure.
But, not forgetting there are some people who lives moderately. This depends on how each one is being brought up by their parents. Some are brought up by having everything they wanted will be given, so are not thought to save, and learn how difficult it is to earn. While some others grew up through hardship, and need to labor to survive in this world. These people will know how to treasure the difficulty of earning money and spend wisely. But there are also some who give up hardship of being poor or need to labor hard to earn, choose the simple way out by robbing, stealing and cheating others.
In today's society, how a person is being brought up in a family is very important. Regardless how difficult we are, we should never rob, steal and cheat for the sake of money. This is satan's evil trap for human to fall into the pit. Be firm and live righteously, and God knows our need. Learn to build up a habit to save, and avoid buying unnecessary things which will bring you into debt. If we do not have that much of money in our account, then don't buy it. This will save us from unnecessary troubles from being bound by debts and loans.
Money should be within our control, and not we being controlled by money. Have a good day and handle money wisely! =)

i have a question, is it true , that when people are not wealthy they give and share? and when they have plenty they wont? I think the opposite should be with us, but its not like that.
yes of course we should learn to appreciate what ever we have in life .Never should take anything for granted.
upbringing is very important in ones life . It lays the foundation for a person.

Yeap, upbringing is very important to a person. A child should be thought from young to Thank, to Appreciate, to Give, and to Share (T-A-G-S).
Regarding your question, it really depends on each individual. Doesn't mean that a person is rich, then they have no T-A-G-S quality. I have rich friends who are really generous in giving. And those who are poor, not necessary give, as they may think that they do not have enough for themselves too. It all depends on their personality, in-build nature of the person.

Not having any money has for me meant that I learn how to spend the little bit of money that I do have in better ways. For example, I have two growing children and where I used to go to the store and buy them brand new clothes that they would have outgrown in a few months, I've discovered the beauty of thrift shops. I'm able to get a ton of great clothing for the same money that I would have spent for just one outfit in the past.
I have learned that coupons can save a lot of money and I've also learned that you can make great meals at home for very little cost. And they even taste as good as things that you can get at restaurants.

That is so true prashu. I used to be financially stable and when I realized that I have empty pockets, I learned to appreciate even the smallest thing in life. I learned to value even the cheapest food and water as I realized that when you're hungry and you don't have enough money to buy food, those I've mentioned could really help your stomach. One thing I also learned is to have a very good relationship with your colleagues so that when tough situation came, they would not just look at you with empty eyes. I also learned to make my life as simple as I can. Another thing is I learned to say No. I don't usually say No to people who borrow money from me, so even though I don't have enough funds to lend them, I would look for a way so I can help them. The sad part is that some of them won't pay me anymore.

Well, dear friend, I'd say you've done a very good discussion.
Initially you hit the target just saying the phrase "As we all know money is the root cause of all evil", just think only of the war, most are for the purpose purely economic (oil and other).
In the world, unfortunately, there has always been the difference between those who have too much and those who have nothing! But this does not say anything new.
I started to give value for money, when I realized that here with family, taxes, expenses, and everything else we really struggle to get the money at the end of the month. Game forces the fact that my brother and I unfortunately do not work.
Unfortunately, in the world there are people who are much, much worse than us, who have nothing to eat, to drink, in fact, not even the necessities of life.
This brings a lot of sadness!

I had a girlfriend, who years ago when her children were
little she use to have once a week a night of hard luck..
She would only give them a tuna sandwich..she said to teach
them how others who don't have live and not every family
go to bed as children with full tummies...
I am not sure if it actually taught them the lesson she was
trying to, but they are alive now and very grown.
