I'd occasionally dip into an episode of House (MD) for an occasional medical mystery story..I'd read that the idea of "House" was based around the deductive genius of Sherlock Holmes,(even the Name is a sly tribute!)which You'd probably know if You're a Fan.
I'm adding some apps to my new smartphone, and a collection of Holmes stories (especially when they're free!)is a welcome addition to a portable ebook library..and in a short biographical introduction to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle,it mentions how He based the deductive reasoning theme on a Senior Doctor he knew at Medical school, who'd sit in the waiting room and observe Patients arriving and unknown to them at the time, start analysing what was wrong! closing up the circle..pretty neat.
Are You a Holmes or House Fan?

My mother was an avid reader and enjoyed Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's character very much. I have seen the old movies with this character and his great deductionary talents. And recently they have started a new show on prime time tv called Elementary which is very good. The lead character's name is Sherlock and he has a helper who's a surgeon and name is Watson. It's a cute show.

The Holmes stories had him channelling all his energies into his deductive work..that was his thing (Along with a little coke and the Violin..)

Have you seen the new show on local tv? Can't think of the name of it right now. It is pretty good. Very modern.

You know, I'm ashamed to say I never read Sherlock Holmes. But I did watch the movies, old and new. I loved them. You're right the books are free so I should get those. And I watched House in the beginning but his character got so annoying. I haven't seen the new series where Dr. Watson is female. Interesting to say the least.

I know huh? Haven't watched the show yet. I'll do that this Wednesday and see what the hoopla is all about. Holmes actually lives in New York in this series. Here's the info. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2191671/

I know Holmes was never portrayed as having a Lady in his Life..The only female Character they could borrow from the stories for Robert Downey Jr's first outing as Holmes was Irene Adler,Who was the focus of "A Scandal in Bohemia" when a Prince Fell for a singer and wanted an incriminating photo back once He became King and was to be married to someone else..I'll try and see if I can check out this series online..

I am a House Fan. I really think Hugh Laurie is a great actor. I have watched Sherlock Holmes movies and the UK Series Sherlock. I really love the story and character build up. I think Holmes is an inspiration to many writers and readers.

There are more than one novel with Sherlock Holmes and there have been other authors beside Conan Doyle who have written about him. There have also been more than one film with Sherlock Holmes as a character. In fact, Holmes is one of the most frequently used characters in movie history.

Since the summer I've been watching all of the seasons of House. I used to watch it years ago but it was before I had a DVR and I couldn't always watch each episode. I've made a list of tv series that I want to watch from beginning to end and I started with House.
The show is really entertaining and I find myself laughing out loud even when I'm by myself watching it. He really is a smart guy and it's just crazy how the solution to the problem will just randomly come to him out of nowhere. I also like the story of the show, not just the medical aspect. So far I'm on season 5 and hopefully I'll be able to finish the whole series soon.
I haven't read Sherlock Holmes, I always have a hard time reading older books because of how different the writers used to talk back then lol.
