300 dollars in the dumpster

My daughter took her wallet to Walmart and did some shopping. She opened up her things and threw the packaging back into the Walmart bag. I assumed it was all garbage and through it in the outside dumpster. The next day we couldn't find her wallet. Guess where it was. Our neighborhood is full of dumpster divers and they had already ransacked the bin. But I made my husband get in it anyway to double check. Tucked away under the garbage we found her wallet with the 300 dollars still in it. I was so relieved.
Have you ever thrown out anything important by mistake.

Wow that would have been awful if it wasn't in there. I'm sure all of you are relieved that her wallet was still in there. I haven't had something like that happened. But my husband has dropped his wallet a few times in different places. One time we were in this restaurant area at an event and he got up to go to the restroom and he dropped his wallet. I didn't notice it but thankfully an attendant noticed and was honest enough to return it. At that time we were in another state for vacation. So it would have been awful if he had lost all of his money. We still had a few more days and had to pay for our hotel stay.

Yeah it's important that we keep our eye open for things like that. It's nice though that there are still honest people out there who are willing to do the right thing. Otherwise it could have turned into a stressful vacation.

My father-in-law burnt his money. He had went to the bank and cashed his paycheck, and came home and laid it on the table. He then had went to the mailbox and picked up the mail and laid it on top. His wife had told him the mail on the table was all junk mail and ready to be taken out back and burned. Not thinking a thing about it, he grabbed it all and took it out. He was not as lucky as you, it was gone forever.

Usnfortunately, yes, I have...usually papers that I should have kept. There is nothing worse than having to go through the garbage to retrieve something. Once, I mistakenly threw away a new bottle of medications, and the bottle was open, so they spilled out. I managed to save a few that were laying on top of paper, but the rest were lost.

After my foreign holiday I had a few dollars that I had kept in a pouch. My maid wanted an empty pouch to do some shopping. I gave her that pouch forgetting that I had kept those dollars. It is only days later I realised my mistake but she denied that there was anything in that pouch!

Yup! I did a couple of times. The first one was throwing out an envelope thinking that it was empty but found out later on that it had $100 inside. Good thing our helper then thought of going through the bin before getting it out to the big dumpster outside. Then the second time was the birth certificate of my son which he needed for school. Both times, my husband got mad at me. hehehe. My fault!

That was a bit of an error on her part though. I also had that experience of throwing away stuff by mistake. I had this motorcycle tire which was slightly used and i reserved it for future. I eventually bought another motorcycle. By the time i went looking for the spare tire i hid, my brother told me that my dad had given it to some kid he didn't know because in our place, kids play with tires by rolling it on the road using sticks.

Well, I have done similar today. Its within my computer though, I was deleting some of my files in my computer because I need to free some space in my drive. Later, I was looking for a certain file and realized that I deleted them too. Its already been permanently deleted and I cannot recover it anymore.

Whoa that was a close call. I've not done anything like that as far as I'm aware but I did lose my little mobile phone once and I suspect someone tossed it away. I was pretty gutted at the time because it was the cutest little phone. Never did find it so maybe that is what happened to it. Glad your husband found it. I hope you cooked a special meal or something as a reward for that one

I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GLAD YOU FOUND IT!!!! Even better that you found the money that was supposed to be in it. One thing I know is NOT to throw my wallet into a shopping bag. The other thing is to check the contents of a shopping bag, before I toss it, because often I'll keep a few chocolate bars in one but some trash in another. I don't want to throw away the chocolate bars in a trash. I'm sure all bags will be checked from now on. :)
