It's really bad when all your employees hate being at work

The older lady pointed a few things out, when I was new I thought it was just this lady. I've been at work for 3 months, I dont mind the job itself but the manager. She expects us to do everything, and know everything even after 3 months without proper training. She left myself, and the other girl 2 pages of jobs to complete in out 3.5 hour job. She just does this for us, but half the time we are running around trying to get things done. She will then say things like what were you sitting around, what did you do for 3 hours. Meanwhile it takes a few hours to put stock away, and then clean (we really dont have extra time to do this stuff), then she was saying we took too long to close. Tonight she came up to me and asked about the cans and who put them away. Saying well it wasnt so and so really rudely, and stareing at me. I'm thinking well it wasnt me (and I know its the older lady but seems like we always point the finger at her). So I was putting the cans away tonight and she was being me watching me to make sure I did it right (meanwhile it's not even me not stocking them properly). The local on the cupboard where we put the money in didnt close properly sometimes it doesnt latch properly. Now since we are running around with our heads chopped off, we didnt realize. We have so much to do before we close that we simple dont remember doing half the stuff. The other girl and I talked about it tonight, and I told her even my last job wasnt like this manager. I mean just the little things, and the commentss she says. Now this place goes through people left and right now we know why. We are all under 3 months (the 4 of us employees), and they hire every so many months. The other girl was saying she is looking for another job, I told her I never stopped looking. I told her I like the new items we learn, but this manager lies the customers, and tells bad information which is why I was looking for a new job.

When you have to work with someone whom makes you feel uncomfortable, it's hard to get anything done. You can't expect to yell at someone and them to do the work they are supposed to do efficiently. Two pages worth of jobs in 3.5 hours is impossible, especially if stocking is one of them. In 3.5 hours one can usually clean a bit, face things, and possibly start to stock but that's even with customers mixed inbetween. Hopefully you all can find another job soon, but honestly I wonder when it's going to get around town that the manager there isn't easy to work with.

Exactly, I mean I had to put away 25 cases or so of cans then try to store the rest ontop of the shelves. I was pouring buckets of sweat, then we had to clean while serving everyone. We didnt even touch the list she left us, we simple wanted to get the cans off the floor. I mean I should have to serve customers while sweats pouring off me, and out of breathe. This manager puts on a showe, but if you sit back adn watch you see it. Such as today she was talking toa customer who was asking whatever, she was talking to other people, and saying hi how are you to customers coming in, or telling us to do things meanwhile this ladies still talking. I was standing pricing items, and thinking wow thats so rude (if I was that customer I would walk right out). If you test or question what this manager says she always has to be right. I gave up even saying anything. I just look at her and walk off, I mean shes lying to a lot fo customers which doesnt go with me.

She sounds to me like a hypocrite, if that's the word I'm looking for. I know that cans come in atleast cases of 12, and if it's cat food I think it's even more then that. It's hard to open the boxes, and stock them, especially with a wide variety of flavors from the same company. Customers do not want to see you sweating and it pouring onto their products. Now this is pet foods, which are in containers but the concept is the same. It sounds to me though as if she needs to hire someone who just cashiers, and someone who just stocks, have the cashiers do the majority of the cleaning.

You never stop looking for jobs until you find the right one. It is hard to do your best job when not trained well and it is hard to get people to care when you abuse them.

She sounds like one of my previous managers. He expected us to do every task perfectly, but we never got any proper training. He didn't have a realistic idea of the time that we had to spend on each task and asked us to do things that would have been impossible for everyone. I was always in rush and the job was stressful. I kept the job, because I needed the money, but I was really happy and relieved to get away from that job when I found another job. In your situation I would probably accept the manager's behaviour as long as I didn't have another job, but I would leave as soon as I found a better job.

It's always not easy to get a 'nice' job, but may you be bless to get one soon. I can understand how you feel working under such manager, since I am working with one now, and I am going to tell him how I feel when I resign soon.. LOL! All the best!

Truth is that employers are supposed to make things easy for employees and when they do that the work runs smoothly. I've worked in offices where nobody gets trained and the boss is unreasonable and shouts and behaves badly and inevitably everyone wants to leave that place. So the butt line is......look for another job if you can get one.

When employees dont like being at work, they cant be doing a good job there. That also can lead to accidents, thefts or other bad things. You need to sit down and discuss problems. Try and find out whats wrong, and make them happy at their jobs. Good luck to you there.

well before you let her know just how long it takes to do something and how none of you can do all the jobs as fast as she wants.

Well.. some people tend to be the perfectionist type and they can't stand seeing even the smallest task being unattended to. I think I am that kind of person too. I like doing things up to perfection because only then I will feel satisfied with the quality of my job. However, I understand that not all people are ready to do things to perfection. Some only work because they want to earn money and that is why they don't care too much about the quality of work they produce. Some others do work according to their own skills and knowledge, I mean if they don't know more than that it is the job of the manager to teach them. In your case, if I were you I think I will find another job too. Even though I am a perfectionist it doesn't mean I can agree with a manager who likes to find faults on small things without giving me a valid reason. I mean, if you are careless in your job it means you lack the skill and knowledge so your manager should teach you but not in a bullying and inconsiderate way. You have the responsibility to improve your quality of work but at the same time your manager needs to give you proper training, otherwise it wouldn't be fair to you, right? Maybe you should ask your manager to give you proper training? Who knows she might want to listen to your suggestion. If she doesn't want to listen, then it's up to you I guess. If the pay is good and this job provides you with a long-term financial security, then you should find a way to keep this job. But if it is not a good paying job, perhaps finding another one is a better idea. Good luck to you.

If they have to hire new people every few months it is only a matter of time before they will run out of people to hire. I am surprised the owners have not realized yet that it is their manager who is running people off. They company I just quit I feel is run poorly. A lot of their managers are looking for other jobs.

Has anyone talked to the person above her about the way she is.. I have been following your posts so I have read and posted on the previuos ones... This woman is costing your company money.. and you all are possibly losing good co workers becauses its not worth it.. I bet some customers have left your place of work and is not willing to come back do to her attitude.. Anyways its a good idea that you are looking for another job.. If things do not change it is only going to drive you crazy.. It sounds like you are a good worker; in the way you complain.. And you care about your job or else the discussions wouldnt be written so well.. Some people look at those kind of jobs at a joke whereas you are taking it seriously..

Everywhere you work you will always find something you don't like. When resign from that job and find another opportunity, you would still find something you hate in your work. Not unless you win the lottery. In another work you would either hate another employee, the manager or the work itself. you have to accept the fact that not everything would go according to what you want. Just saying.
