Our town is celebrating a festival called "Pagdihon", meaning a unity of working together as one community. We will be having several tribes composed of seven barrios to compete in a street dancing and a performance. Since today is a month of festival in the Philippines, does your home town celebrate an October fest? Is their also street dancing? Do you cook food for the coming visitor? Our's we don't, we just join the street dancing. We are only preparing food during Patronal fiesta' a feast for our patron saint.

In our area May is the month of festivities. Weekly one or even two barrios will be holding parades and put decorations called bagting to make the surroundings look attractive. In our own barangay they even hold contests on designing the best floats and most beautiful bagting decorations.

I think ours is a smaller celebration. One barrio usually just celebrate for one weekend. Each barrio's celebration is separate from the others. But it all happens in May. Mardi Gras I think is a more widespread and general celebration.

That sounds similar to our Mardi Gras. Weeks of parades and then a lot of activity the last two weeks leading up to Shrove Tuesday. It's a huge celebration.

Well, actually there are indeed provinces who have their own festivals.
Ours here in Albay, we just had our Ibalong Festival last July or August i think. There are also street dancing and activities.
But we also have our fiestas. In fact, it's the fiesta day now here in Leagzpi City. People prepares foods for visitors who might come. It's a happy occaasion indeed.

Sad though that some people would come into a point of getting a loan, just to have money for the fiesta preparations.
Me, if ever i don't have a budget for that, ma and my family would just choose to close our house and go instead to a relative who have fiesta preparation.

We Filipinos give importance with our traditions. We never let a year pass without celebrating our Patron saints or our town fiestas. That is i guess a tradition that will pass on from generation to generation. we are rich of cultural beliefs and i think it's a healthy get together advantage for us.

My home town celebrates constantly. We must have more festivals than anywhere else on the planet! There is something going on pretty much every weekend and sometimes there are three or four different festivals happening at the same time.

Well, what can i say? That will be a very costly celebration. But i'm sure its fun. We only celebrate two festivals in a year, i mean in the town proper. Every barangays have their own town fiestas too. But the most awaited is the festival in town because 33 barrios are gathered to compete in several categories from talents to beauties.

I agree with that, October is also a super busy month in our place because the actual festivities happen in November. A lot of preparation is being done during Ocober. We also prepare food for our visitors, we also have those street dances, beauty contests is also one of the main attraction here. Though I'm not based currently in my town, I will surely visit my place and join the rest for I don't want to miss those festivities. Thanks

First time I've heard of this festival.
If you don't mind, may I know from which part of our country you came from?
I am a native of Baguio but I haven't experience to attend the "Flower Festival" due to work schedule.
I wish to attend and witness this grand festival soon.

I am from Iloilo jai, my hometown is 45 minutes away from the city. A city that is known of Dinagyang Ati-atihan. Baguio is known indeed for its flower festivals. You should try your best to attend your hometown's festival you'll be very proud. We will be watching beauty pageant tonight. The whole family will be their to support a daughter's family friend.

Hi friend, good to hear about your celebration. Here in India we too have lot of celebrations in this month. We are celebrating Dashara festival which includes 9 day of celebration. Every day we worship the goddess and place a doll show in our house, invite our friends and relatives to visit the doll show and prepare special food for the goddess, dedicate it to them and offer the food to the guests

From which part of the Philippines are you bembzee?
Your place seems to have a variety of cultures and traditions. Unlike here in Quezon City where you seldom see barangays celebrating fiestas or whatever. I am kind of envious I must say. :D

Hello simplepleasure, i am from Iloilo. We are 45 minutes away from the city. We have 33 barangays in our home town. We have a float parade just this morning for opening salvo. We are a class A municipality. And i guess we are lucky to have an abundance of natural resources around us. Our town is attracting visitors from nearby town especially Lenten season. We have more than 5 caves in Bulabog Putian Park with thick old trees surrounding the mountain and a Lake Vito for the next adventure just across the mountain.

Growing up in the city and now living in the suburbs, we do not have festivals like that. No street dancing, no special feasts to serve, none. That is why me and my husband plan to go down south and experience the festivities. We both haven't been to one so I know it would be a very memorable experience for us.

That will be a great experience for the kids. Actually the one who enjoys parade was my little sister. My mom printed a shirt with Pagdihon logo for the whole family together with her staff ( the food handlers and the kitchen boys ) in support of the festival. We wore apple green shirts in resemblance with the restaurants color scheme. It's fun.
