Hi everyone, I have a fever and an important test tomorrow between the two thing i have to comprise on my health, or rather i am forced to compromise on health. But do you guys take self medicated tablets, i know its not healthy but i have read in newspapers and seen people who take tablets without consulting a doctor. Luckily i have a best friend who's dad is a doctor and she really takes care of me and if i have any problems she immediately rings to her dad and consultants with him so i never had this problem of self medication at least till now. But it is very dangerous and risky habit to take meds without doctor's advice people, if you are doing it, stop it immediately (inner voice: look who is talking...)

Main question is: why do you have fever? Is it related to a bad cold? Then you could just try paracetamol, pref. with codeine. It will lower your body temperature only temporary. But please stay away from other medicines. That's really for doctors to prescribe.

Its because of exam, yes that is the culprit. Its because i strain myself over these things way too much than they deserve. Okay they do deserve them. But on a serious note it cause the weather is changing and i had a bit high temperature so i took it as a temporary solution rather than permanent and after that i did went to a doctor just to be sure or rather dragged by my mom as usual. Its alright now and thanks for the concern guys i am really touched all of you. take care

Here in Mexico, you can go to pharmacy and buy most vaccinations. Of course they will inject them for you for like 2.00. So many buy and take them home. Having someone or themselfs inject them. I would rather have the dr. or nurse do it to me. Have a great day there.

What really!!! i seriously cant believe it i mean who would allow such a thing. Taking self meds tablets as everyone here would agreed itself is sometimes a fatal mistakes but having self administered vaccinations is just too much. I seriously hope that you or anyone of mylotter are not having this dangerous habit. Please go to a doctors as they know the best since they have dedicated their lives for this particular field and take care

Personally sometimes it would be nice to have access more to Pain medications than I do as I hurt all the time. Not sure with the Hyperbaric oxygen treatment if it is that or my Fibromyalga or what. But I need to find a Doctor that will listen to me and want to help, as the Gabapentin is not really helping to relieve this pain completely. But it is easier now a days sometimes to diagnose yourself and want to self medicate if you can just because some doctors do not want to take time to listen.

I guess it's not that bad to self medicate oneself if it's just a simple illness, like fever or head ache but if it took you days to recuperate after self medication, then it's advisable to seek professional help. There are some medication that can be purchase over the counter but if you are in doubt, it's better to consult medical practitioners.

Self medication is a no-no in cases of treating inflammation, because in taking antibiotics, the doctors are the ones who know best what kind of antibiotics to give. But for emergency cases like fever, i thinks self medication is not really contraindicated

Oh most people do that all the time, specially those who don't have any health complications. But be careful to do such if you have some allergy because there might content in the medicine that could trigger your allergy and could get you in more trouble. I was sick last month with fever and headaches. Hubby just bought me some over the counter meds to help me ease the discomfort I was feeling then. It did help a little but did not take away the pain. So I took more dosage without the prescription of the doctor and prayed that it would indeed helped. Praise God it did ease the sickness away. :)

I just usually take in something for my headache, colds and cough even without going to the doctor. I think they are the common medicines used by a lot of people. But when I don't feel better after a day or two, I try to seek help from my brother in law who happens to be a doctor.

Yes, I take medication if I can't find a doctor when I need him. I have the same doctor for many years, and I usually take the same antibiotic when I have a cold, so I keep an extra box in my medicine cabinet and I take them if the doctor isn't available and I can't get better. My mum was a nurse and now she is retired but she know a lot of things. However, if I feel that it's something else and not a cold, and I still can't find a doctor, I go to the pharmacy and ask the opinion of the pharmacist. When I was in UK I was very sick and I couldn't get an appointment with a doctor for 3 days. I had to wake up at a specific time and make an appointment online, but the system was loaded because everyone was trying to do the same, and and then everything was already taken. So I took the medicine that I had brought with me from home and I felt a lot better. Of course, I followed the directions of use and the instruction of my doctor at my home country!

Good to know that you have a good friend and she always help your for your health issues. We must avoid self medication it is dangerous to our health. Self medication is good for little issues like cold, cough, head ache. But, it is always good to consult a physician for all our health issues. Some times this kind of little health issues like cold, head ache may be a symptom to some high fever and diseases. If we take some medicines by our self without going for the check up, it will give some great complications to us. This kind of self medication activities may give some temporary relief. But it is not a solution for our health issues. Some times this kind of self medication activity will lead us in to issues life unwanted health issues, side effects and so on. We must be careful while taking medicines by our own or getting it from a pharmacy without the proper prescription. Some people consider pharmacist as their doctor and following their suggestion. But the pharmacist don't know about your health condition, s/he will give some medicine to cure your problem temporary. But it is not a permanent solution. We must try our maximum to avoid this kind of self medicating activities and follow the doctor's suggestion and advice. Always go for a health check up while you are not feeling well and follow the doctor's prescription to get well.
