I wonder if I broke it

Yesterday evening my I was in the kitchen getting my daughter something to drink and when I went to go put the pitcher back in the fridge I kicked her chair. It hurt so bad! My eyes started watering. I think I saw stars...It was horrible. My toe started turning purple. Today it is almost completely purple and I can't even imagine trying to bend it. I have stubbed my toe before, but this hurts worse than any other time. Oh, and putting a shoe on this morning? TORTURE!! I didn't go to the doctor because its not like they put a case on it or anything if I had broken it. Have you broken a toe before? How did you know it was really broken? Any tips for making this as painless as possible?

I've never broken my toe before, but I sprained my little toe though. I was in a foot brace and had to wear crutches. First time I ever used crutches and I was in my 40's. There's not much you can do for an injured toe, I don't think.

I friend of mine suggested taping my pinky toe to the one next to it so that I would not be tempted to try to bend it.

LOL.. I never did end up taping it up. It still hurts pretty bad, but the bruising is going away at least.

After I had already posted my comment I thought about how my husband has broken his toe and was going to suggest taping your toe to the next one or taping it to cardboard to keep it straight. Then I thought people would think we were redneck!

Yes, I broke a toe before, and it looked a lot like what you are describing. I was about eleven. I didn't go to the doctor for it because it was a toe. I'm sure if I had made a big deal about it my parents would have taken me. But, it was toe, not a finger. I could function. The bad thing is, when it healed, it healed crooked. So one of my toes on my left foot faces the wrong way. Perhaps I should have gone to the doctor, but I think for the toe to do that might be rare. So it's funny looking. You can go toe by toe (sounds funny) and everything looks fine. Then you get to the toe that faces the wrong way.

Well mine is still facing the same direction it was before. When I hit the chair with my pinky toe the rest of my foot tried to keep going. It is either broken or I just jammed it.

They say in your lifetime you break your little toe at least 10 times.....and yes....your's sounds like you did break it. I hope it's feeling better today....put ice on it to reduce the swelling and hopefully take away some of the pain.

I could see that. Every time I hit my toe on something it is that toe. It is a little better today as long as I don't get stupid and try to curl my toes.

Well i cant say that i have ever broke a toe but i can say that a couple weeks ago i really tought i did and my toe was bruised for at least a week and it was torture having to walk and what not. I didnt wear closed shoes at all and i live in Florida so i could wear flip flops but what i did was i fell and my toe went underneath a door and i cried it hurt so bad, and i showed it to my mother and she said it wasnt broken just badle bruised and i guess she was right after all. Just put some ice on it when you can and rest dont walk much on it either.

That sounds like it was pretty painful. I have done that a few times. I am a klutz. I am always running into things or hitting my toes and things like that. I have been wearing shoes and walking around as little as possible the last few days.
