Interesting story. In fact, fascinating. A neurosurgeon contacted a rare bacterial meningitis and went into a coma. He was legally dead. Miraculously, he survived and is now well and back to being a doctor. He is claiming that he went to heaven during the time period that he was in a coma and has now written a book about it which has just been released.
The doctor's name is Eban Alexander and the name of the book is Proof of Heaven. Today he was on ABC World News and I believe that he may be on Nightline tonight.
This experience has changed him and his life. His medical peers believe that their is a medical explanation for what he experienced.
However you believe, it is one fascinating story.

The question with people like him is if he really saw heaven or if his mind just projected all the stories we hear everyday about heaven.

Yes, we would change. In my case. I would also consider it a nice dream.

This is almost the same as the book entitled "Heaven is For Real" about a young boy who also got sick and have been to heaven and back. I forgot the name of the kid and his dad who wrote the book but it is also fascinating and really touching.

Lol I just mentioned this book in my comment too. I couldn't remember the name of the book or little boy though. I'd eventually like to read the book. A friend from work was reading it and I thought the story was amazing. I'm kind of skeptical about it though, I'd like to believe that it's a real story, but I tend to have a few doubts.

This is a very hard topic to discuss because I'm not sure what to say, lol! I do believe we come back, so I guess I'll start with that. I do believe in "ghosts" because there is no reason not to, plus I've seen them. If I never saw them I might wonder about this more, but I guess I just have no doubt because of that.
I also like the medium John Edward. He to me, is the real thing. I don't know why because I've seen others, but he seems different. He gets messages from the "other side" and they seem to be right on, according to the people he's talking to. Don't think I'm not skeptical, I am. And I don't believe everyone, including Sylvia Browne. Don't ask me why, it's just a feeling.
I really do feel there is an afterlife, and I do feel we come back to earth eventually as someone else. That's about all I can say, but it gives me a peaceful feeling and it's only because I AM skeptical...if that makes any sense to you at all. I know what I'm saying but I'm not sure if I can relate what I'm saying to you.

Here's some food for thought. I saw this last night on 20/20 and was completely amazed. I fell asleep and woke up 2 minutes before 20/20 came on and they were talking about it in their commercial. So, of course, I sat up straight to watch it thinking "OMgosh, we were just talking about this on myLot." Strange, hmm?
At first I thought, ok, this is the same stuff I've heard before UNTIL he mentioned the woman who he had never seen and couldn't figure out who she was. She was his guide which I know you already talked about in another response.
That struck me very odd and made me less skeptical, because I don't think I would have thought of that if I was scamming people. When he drew the picture of his guide and THEN later saw a picture of his sister, whom he never saw before....that got me believing him. I might just read his book just to see what he has to say.....got me thinking. Plus, the funny thing is I believe in the afterlife and I also do believe in signs. Why did I wake up 2 minutes before it was to show on tv?.....see what I mean.

There's nothing wrong with it, we all belong there anyways. we were never built to last forever in this Earth, one day all of us will be there in heaven. I think it gives them a better perspective in life way better than most of us. such occurances also happened not only in the US but also parts of the world. even to those who didn't believe in GOD or heaven. some are just insisting their belief is real.but i believe this story.

I believe in heaven as there is hell too. But the truth, God reveals it to those who have a weak belief or there is no belief at all. Why? Because John 20:29 says: "Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

Not everyone believes. Also, not everyone is a Christian. I am glad that you have such strong beliefs. It, hopefully, makes life easier.

Interesting story but the fact he was a devout Christian when he had his experience may have influenced him. I found a review of his book which may be of interest.

When secular people experience heaven in NDE's. They are usually changed dramatically and starts living a very spiritual life.
