has anyone here donated an organ for a friend or a stranger? when last did you? if you haven't, would you recoil at the prospect of doing so, even for a friend? for friendship sake...

If given no choice but to save a friend though transplantation. If I'm healthy and able to donate, I would give it. It's really a noble action to do this life saving action. Each and every one of us has a purpose in life and I believe that I am destined to do it.
Though I have a relative who just received a new kidney from a stranger. We are so thankful and grateful to this person for he is very nice person. I hope he can be rewarded on the noble action he just did.
Thanks.

i hope he will be rewarded, mikyung, although i doubt he was thinking of rewards when he agreed to that noble act.
if i was healthy myself, mikyung, and the doctor says my genes are okay with the sick, i can donate a kidney or even an organ, any. nice day.

I think that it is a very good thing that people are willing to give their organs to the people who they love. If I knew of anybody who needed an organ, then I would almost certainly donate it if there was a chance that I could do so. I would have the test to see if I was a match, and if it turned out that I was then I would go ahead with it. I am planning to donate my organs when I die, as I think that it is good that people are able to make a difference to the lives of others when they are no longer on the planet as a living human being.

I almost did. I almost donated a kidney for my friend's daughter. Adults can live with one kidney, but children under 16 need both in order to live a normal life. The girl was 10 at the time, with one kidney working 10% and the other 25%... both very near full kidney failure. The doctor had one last procedure to try before strongly suggesting a kidney transplant, but both the mother of the girl and I were blood-matches and were going to go in to see if either of us were enough of a match to donate one of our kidneys.
After the "last chance" procedure, the girl made a miraculous recover and has had no problems in the three years since. As it turned out, she didn't need my kidney, but I would have given it to her. I put a lot of thought into it though, as anyone should.
