Have you ever felt so exhausted, you want to pass out to sleep but you can't sleep? It's like closing your eyes tight but your thoughts are still active it keeps you awake until you get a headache. How do you deal with situations like this? Reading is not working anymore it only keeps me more awake.

I have days (or nights, depending on whether its a workday or a weekend) like this. Sometimes I'd just want to bang my head on the wall just to get knocked out. I never resorted to taking pills though, I fear I may oversleep and risk not waking up on time to go to work.

It happens to me randomly. Sometimes I'd go a whole week with 2 to 3 hours of daily sleep. Then when weekends comes I can sleep from 12 to up to 20 hours. It's not a healthy habit but it's not like I have much control.

yes...I actually experience that thing also...it will really give you headache. Just try to relax and stop thinking of something so that you will finally sleep.

I have experienced this during those times that I have problem.
My body wants to have rest but my mind and thought don't want to relax that gives me a big headache and bad health.
The best thing to avoid these health issues is to have a peace of mind, exercise and meditate.

Hi Jaiho,
That's exactly what I am going through right now, I am feeling stress and exhausted but my thoughts just refuse to give in. I think what I need first is a whole day of hibernation. That always work for me and I will try my best to get back on track.

This has happened a few times to me in a past. Actually, more times then I really care to remember. It is a rather frustrating existence to live where all I would like is sleep, but for some reason the mind would not relax. I just try and relax the best I can. Try and ease my mind, take as many deep breaths as I can.
It is one of the worst feelings to be so tired that it is hard to fall asleep. When the body is weary, the mind still runs a million miles a minute. Frustration tends to mount, and when forcing the issue it is just really bad. And especially when the headaches come in. It makes me want to render myself into a state of being unconscious. It is really a bad time.

I also had this night a couple of times before, usually after doing a lot of work and consuming lots of coffee. By night I find it hard to sleep even though I am already very sleepy. Usually, a cup of warm milk or a hot shower helps me relax. A little white noise also lulls me to sleep. If all else fails, well, I am sure that the following night I will be dropping on my bed ready for sleep. Of course it goes to show that I will avoid coffee the following day.

Coffee is necessary for me stay awake too, but I only drink it in the morning and then I switch to tea for the rest of the day but there are times that I can't keep my eyes open so I have to drink coffee again then just like you I find myself struggling to get some sleep in the night.

Get a book , read a few pages. Might help you fall asleep there.

i am always like this because of a chronic illness. it seems to cause insomnia and often i am staring at the clock because i can't sleep. i try to focus on my breathing and try to relax everything so i end up getting sleepy and fall asleep.
the nasty thing is that sometimes when i have insomnia, i still have to get up for work! i remember one really bad stretch was when i couldn't fall asleep until 3 am and i ended up like that for about 3 nights. it was truly horrible!
