Greetings from NY! The word from the Weather Media/Forecastors/Genius' is
that we are to "batten down everything that can fly", get the proper emergency
necessities ready. prepare to lose electic power... )Oh no not the Internet! I hope
our friends in the Carribean are ok because I believe they were the first victims.
Are you in the path of Hurricane Sandy and if so how do you feel?

I'm not in the past of the storm. We only get tornadoes, not hurricanes. Listen to me, I say ONLY. I wouldn't have known about the hurricane if not for mylot or gather. I haven't been watching the news. It's too depressing. I hope you guys will be okay.

Hi lil' sis! Glad you'll be safe at least! So far we haven't had any
tornadoes where I live, but some areas of NY have. I was watching my
soap "General Hospital" on Friday when they "interupted" for a Hurricane
Alert. The storm was 3 days away so I was just mad that they couldn't
wait til my show was over!

I think we are going to get some bad weather in GA. I haven't been outside yet, but i saw on TV that it is cold out. We have gone from 80 degree weather to cold in about a day or two.

We have the cold, 28 right now. It was 90 on Tuesday. It is time for us to be having some cold weather here in Kansas, though. Sometimes after hurricanes hit the coast we get extra rain, and that would be a good thing for us after being so dry all summer.

I am far inland so not in the path of the storm, but anything that affects such a large part of our country will have some effects on us I am sure. I am reading discussions about emergency preparedness, having food on hand etc. I wish I had a hand cranked computer. I know that they make them. You be careful Opal and don't go out in the storm.

Hi GG! I'm just doing what I'm told (for a change)lol. Some of my
friends are non-believers and that's who the news channels are
trying to get through to. People get tired of being warned and
nothing happens. They really want people to be on the alert,
prepared and ready this time because they feel this hurricane
is a real serious threat!

I HATE IT WHEN WE HAVE TO PREPARE FOR HURRICANE OR EARTH quake. whoops didnt know my caps lock was on anyway, even as much as i hate the heat here thats usually the worst we have to prepare for. im praying you will be ok. when i lived in florida, it was so scarey. didt know you had them there. i did hear you've had earth quakes like when i lived in california. hate those and cali also. you live in a scarey place girl

Hi Bon. The mid-Atlantic and Northeast areas of the country USED to be the quietest regarding weather. Maybe a bit too much snow for some but quiet for the most part. We never had much extreme weather at all.
But in the past few years, it's been getting worse and worse. We had an earthquake centered here in Virginia not long ago and recently that one up north (New Jersey, wasn't it?). Plus, earlier this year, we had that massive, freak wind storm rip through here all the way to the ocean, destroying so much property and causing widespread power outtages. Now, this "Frankenstorm".
It IS getting scarey!

Hi ladies! Bun, I'm afraid MW is right! We used to have more predictable
weather here too, but in the last few years we have been hit with massive
snow storms, power outages and at this point anything goes! We had an
earthquake here in NY about 28 years ago or so right after I moved into
my apartment! NY never was supposed to have earthquakes! Well, I
was awakened to this roaring sound like a train coming through my apartment,
my bed was moving across the floor and I didn't know what the he!! was
happening! It was an earthquake that was almost a 3 on the Rikter Scales!
And then the next day an aftershock of the same magnitude! And I was afraid
to live in California?

I'm in southwestern PA, and right in the "red" zone. They say this storm will affect areas in an 800 mile radius. It's raining here now, but not from Betty...we are getting the system that is gonna meet up with Betty and cause all the problems. I have food, and a little gas in the car, but not much. It's the end of the month, and there is literally no money to buy anything. I need to round up all my candles. We have a gas stove, so that should be ok. We are supposed to get rain and heavy, wet snow that can pull down trees, since a lot of trees still have their leaves, so they will get very heavy. I'll just stay home and hope for the best.

Hi lacieice~ I hope that you will be safe where you are. The leaves
on the trees is unfortunately one of the big issues here to at
this time of year. We are supposed to get heavy rain and very strong
wind gusts. That is what will cause the power lines to go down, which
is what I worry about the most, as most people do.

I am in Ohio, and if so, it doesn't look like we will get too much. I did tell my husband that we might want to go get a generator, just in case. Good luck to you.

The latest I heard, we here in southern Ontario could be in its path. It's already cool and rainy today.
Don't you just love the alarmist terminology they come up with? Remember Snowmaggedon?

Hi BarBara! You have to give to those weather people, they sure are
creative! Didn't know they had a sense of humor? I just hope that
everyone, wherever they live remain safe and out of the path of
Hurricane Sandy, or whatever they want to call it!

The weather in this part of the world where I live has been so unpredictable. Like just now it rained dogs and cats but the next hour the sun came out smiling fiercely. Now the sky start to signal that it is going to be a big downpour probably late in the evening. Luckily we are not in the paths of any hurricane as our country. Is the land below the wind. But sometimes we get affected also if there is strong typhoon in the Philippines being our neighbor country.

Hi zandi! Great to see ya! We don't get alot of hurricanes here usually
either. And we don't get ones that are of this magnitude that they are
saying is on it's way. You should be happy to just have it raining
cats and dogs, at least they're cute and cuddly.

hi opal wow frankenstorm does not sound like much fun. here in California we only get the shake, rattle and then roll.if it lasts a whole minute my tummy gets
upset. New York and you are right in the path of hurricane Sandy/ batten everything
'down and if you have a storm cellar go to it if the storm really slams into you.I am not in the path of it but am sure worried for all my friends here in this area. but I feel worried for you and all my lotters in its way so will appreciate any updates on it.

Hi my dear friend Hatley! I heard that there are other discussions on
the storm, but I am having a hard time with mail and mylot again this
weekend so it's been irratic and hard for me to get online to the site.
I will be happy to update for as long as I can, providing I still have
power, which is my worst fear. So far, the news is still the same, the
storm is just getting a little closer. It is supposed to start sometime
tomorrow and end sometime Thursday. That certainly doesn't sound too good.
The main part will hit Monday into Tuesday and those will be the worst parts,
so far. Will try to stay around....

Hey there! Well batten down the hatchs and watch out for a bumpy ride. I think it is a good thing that you have time to prepare. There was a time when they couldn't track them. Good luck and I hope things go okay for you and your area.

Hiya opal,
Been hearing about the Frankenstorm on the Weather News and it seems to be quite bad. Is it really as bad as all the other ones?
Hope everyone is safe we almost never get hit by these kind of Storms however we can get some really bad floodings that happen without warning and end in a complete disaster for some.
Lots of People have lost all they had this time around all because their Houses were built in the old river bed.xxx

Hiya Opal,
Yesterday I saw a bit about how they were panic buying some of them but you can hardly blame them in a way because the Shops here most of the time are almost short of everything.
Panic buying goes on here now but not because of Storms because they are fed up of making numerous journeys to find all the right things.
Well still hope nothing happens except that you might much needed rain like we have had here the Dams are filling up now.xxx

Sandy looks mean and scary from what I've seen. I'm in Australia and in Melbourne we don't get hurricanes or tornadoes or anything like that. We've had tiny earthquakes but that doesn't happen often. I hope everyone will be OK and not much damage will happen. I haven't been to NY as of yet and still want to visit

I am not....luckily I did hear that they might even close down the transit options you have....and that would really keep everyone at home. Heard from Cynthiann and she is alright except for losing power....I am glad we are not close. Take care of yourself!

Hi jill~ I was asking about Cynthiann, so thanks for letting me know
she's ok. Yes, they are talking about shutting down the transit and
the schools and I hope they do. My bf is soooo stubborn and will go
to work, no matter what unless they pull the busses off the road.
I'm not leaving the apartment! Got my "emergency stuff" almost together.
Will finish up in a bit!

Hi Opal, Do be safe my friend and take all the necessary precautions. I live in Atlantic Canada and so far we have only been told to expect a lot of rain, but we all know that can change. We do get some bad storms here but not like you are expecting with Sandy. I hope it isn't as bad as is being predicted. All who live in the path of the storm will be in my thoughts. Blessings.

Hi Pose! Nice to see ya! Thank you for the well wishes. It is
now Monday afternoon and the winds are starting to really pick
up. So far the storm is exactly on track and starting to wreck
havoc on NY and NJ! NJ has been hit pretty hard already from
what I hear. We still have a few hours to go before we start
getting the major scary wind gusts of 60MPH or more. I am
alone because my bf had to go to work and is spending the
night because there is no transportation running in NY at
all. We are all just wating...

Thank goodness I live in Oregon where we only have to put up with hippies named Sandy.
Ok, Ok, I was in hurricane Floyd in 1999. That was seriously a vacation to remember... It hit North Carolina and I was living in Hendersonville, for about 3 weeks of our 5 week vacation...
I hope that you are safe and do not get too much wind damage...
