I think the case of Watson and Malinga is slightly different. In case of Malinga he now only plays the shorter versions of the game. While Watson plays all three formats of the game. I think the difference between him and Mahela is the fact that he is an all rounder and thus requires more rest than a pure batsman or bowler for the body. So I think Australia did the right thing, though if Sri Lankan board had done similarly, there would have been nothing wrong about it.
Cheers!

Thanks a ton for posting this discussion. I think a player should always give more priority for playing his country over his county team. This is because he should not crave for money and short cut success. Playing for a country is a great thing that every player always dreams of and they should not waste such opportunities and whenever they are being called to play for their country then they should accept it humbly.
What say?

totally true! every player plying for his country or their club team earlier, then if some IPL or Bigbash etc team watches his perfomance, then they offer chances to play for that team! so they must give more respect for the home team!!!
Thanks for good opinions!
