Some people drink soda like water. It becomes the most popular drinks consumed by people these days. Some of the negative side effects of soda:
- Sugar content, too much fructose corn syrup that can make people overweight
- Contains carbon acid, a highly corrosive material that can damage your internal organ. Some proofs is oral health. It can damage your tooth enamel.
We all know about these effects. But there is another dangerous effect: cancer
The caramel coloring in soda, the process creates a cancer-causing byproduct MI. Sodas sold accross the country have a variety of MI level, some are dangerously high.
So if you know the negative effect of sodas, are you still going to drink sodas? Is sodas taste so good that you can't resist?
My house are cleared from sodas for years. My boys never want to drink sodas even when we go out to restaurant. They both always order water with lemon.
Is your house clear from sodas?

I rarely drink soda. Its fine if we drink soda but not too much because too much is also dangerous for our health.

Right, just enough is better. Anything too much will no longer be good.

I do drink some cola light or zero or whatever they call it in my rum.
Why do I use light? Because I'm diagnosed with diabetes 3 years ago. THAT'S another side effect of sodas, amongst other things.
Food authorities pretend to guard our health. Don't believe them.

Food authorities have been supplement with $$$ from the food manufactures. I bet people from Hershey, Nestle, Coke, Pepsi, and other giant food and beverage manufactures have positions in the food agency. So they write their own policy. You are absolutely correct, don't trust them. Just read the food labels, and find out about it. The more you know, the better it is. Read from trusted sources, don't depends on food authorities comments/suggestions.

Well we all know that there are some pretty bad side effects for drinking soda. And I regret drinking it for years and years. It is a rather powerful and addictive thing to get rid of. Months back when I decided to make some changes in my life, one of the things I decided to cut out was soda.
That was one of the best decisions that I could have made for my life a lot of the time. Granted, I'm about the only one that has given up that habit, but still got to worry about my life and don't focus my health habits. Sodas, especially if you drink more than one a day, bring you up like a high, and cause you to crash down. It also causes some erratic patterns with your sleep schedule. Three months without a single drop of soda going down my throat, and I'm happy for it.

The other reason why soda can make you addicted and affecting sleep schedule is the caffeine content in it.
But it's good for you now that you are out of it.

Our house is clear from sodas most of the time.. But if there is a visitor, we have to buy soda and we get to drink it too. When we go to fast food we also drink soda.. Fortunately, we only go out and have visitors quite rarely, we usually just drink water... sometimes milk or coffee.

We also don't drink soda but I doubt if the sugar in soda is the reason why people are so overweighted. I think generally speaking people eat too much and drink too much. Eating too much mostly fast food seldom home prepared and if home cooked it's again already fixed in the supermarket or elsewhere (it's amazing how less people know how to cook/prepare a meal). Also most people don't drink water anymore or tea or coffee without sugar.
I am raised without sugar (not in yoghurt, the dutch yoghurt is sour for example, not in tea etc.). Little kids are teached to like sweet things. I know since my kids did not like it at first (incl. candies, cakes, pies, ice cream etc). My kids still don't like sweet that much. It's the same with animals, what you give them when they are young they will always like when they grew up (no matter if the taste is changing which is with human beings every 7 years).
If we all would prepare our own food, no matter what it is (pie, cake, candies, ice cream etc) we would surely eat less and be more aware of what we eat. So it might be worth giving it a try. Same with syrups (= soda's) we drink.
BTW I am also raised (and so are many people over here) not to drink while eating. They say over here it's not healty and bad for your digestion.
So we do not drink while we are eating, the only exception is if we visit a restaurant which is rare.
I seldom by soda's. We mostly drink white or green tea, water and some juice (incl the carrot/vegetable juice as well). But even the juices are rare.
We also drink less milk (which is not a drink but actually food).

You are absolutely correct. These days all ready food are filled with sugar, fat, sodium. People are used to high content of sugar. We are not used to plain yogurt!
All snacks for kids are full of sugar, both the food and drink.
I just feel pitty when I look at people grocery card, full of all junkies and juice boxes. Juice boxes, or most of the juice sold filled with sugar, not real fruit juice. Cookies, chocolate bars, they are all filled with sugars. Even popcorn, needs to be covered with caramel! Fruits is covered with chocolate.
Look at Oreo. Apparently the original Oreo is not enough, they have to make double thick Oreo, with the white sugar filling double the thickness! Manufacturer only makes these things because there are demands. So obviously the demands are there! Our kids are born with sugars.

I am really well aware of the dangerous side effects of drinking too much soda pop. Because they talk about it so much on the local news. I don't really have any kind of soda pop in my home. Now that the soda pop is cheaper than the bottled water and milk, I am still not going to buy soda pop. I am not really much of a fan of soda pop anyway because of all the sugar they put into it and how sweet it really is. So I just drink soda pop on special occasions such as a Birthday, wedding, or holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Its okay to drink soda pop in moderation and not everyday.

Oh I am so guilty about drinking soda. But we are trying to avoid it. Soda is never in my grocery list. But there are times that we are craving for then we will buy but just enough to satisfy our cravings. I have a son so I don't want to let him drink soda because it is very high in phosphoric acid and sugar. Like what you said, very bad for the health.

Hi wfhchristiner,
I knew that soda is bad for health primarily due to the amount of sugar that is put in. Never knew about the effects of acid corroding internal organs and causing cancer. Thanks for the info. I think more people should stay away from soda. Have a nice day.

Hi,
Categorically, we don't store soft drinks on the ref. Easy access to this kind of drink is not that good as you say. If the need really arise, we can have it for long intervals that it is almost akin to celebrating something if it is on the table during mealtimes. You fail to mention diabetes, the raising of blood sugar levels after drinking even a glass of it. I am not really keen on it, in spite of the establishment of one of the largest softdrink plant in our town.

Thank you for reminding me this. It's sad that even though most of us are already aware of the bad effects of certain drinks and food products, many of us still continue to consume it. Well honestly, there was a time, where in a totally stopped drinking any soda but noticed that I only get tempted to drink some is when I am with my relatives who loves soda and also during occasions where in soda is usually the drink being served.
Anyway, I know that if a person is determined, regardless of the situation or reason, he should stick to his principles. Therefore, I promise to stop drinking soda again, considering that I'm overweight once again :(.

I used to drink sodas every lunch. But when we audited a manufacturer of soda here and I witnessed the amount of sugar that they put in the mixture, I really got turned off. I have tried kicking off soda in my diet. The only time that I would have one is when I am out and about and. Am not sure of the cleanliness of the drinking water being served. When I got married, it's a good thing that my husband never drinks soda so my fridge is totally soda free. I wish I can do the same for my parents' house, but sadly my siblings are fond of it. Although they prefer fruit juices over soda, it would be much better if they wouldn't have any "supply" of soda at all.

I think we're all aware of these side effects. the problem is the habit. Its hard to break that habit of always having a soda. It can cause us harm but so can a lot of other things we consume in a daily basis. I am not saying we should continue this consumption at hte level it is, it should be stopped or cut back drastically. It will not be an easy change.
