I am eating squash seeds right now. We Filipinos are fond of eating stuffs like this aside from watermelon seeds, fried corn and peanut. This squash seeds is salted and once you start eating it you couldn't get your self stop. I will just stop when my lips get sore, haha. This is perfect while chatting with friends and is much easier to eat than the salted watermelon seeds. Though it's a bit messy to eat and I can see scattered covers under my desk. Lol.

I don't think I've ever eaten squash seeds, but they seem to have the same effect as eating peanuts, right. Once you started eating one, then you just eat more and more until they are gone. When the peanuts I'm eating come in large packages, I'd just pour a small amount in a container to snack on and stop when it's gone there.

That's true. It has same effect like peanuts and corn. I always ask my husband to buy whenever he could pass famous nuts store here in our town. Hmm, I will ask him to buy a pack of peanuts and corn too later. Thank you for the response and happy eating!

Yup I agree. Its kinda addictive once you start eating one you could end up eating a handful. Squash seeds look like watermelon seeds except the shell have whitish color instead of black. Its fun removing the shell and eating the soft inner layer like the watermelon seeds.
I also start liking to eat pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds.

Wow thats really interesting I have never heard of anyone eating squash or watermelon seeds. I have eaten peanuts and sunflower seeds but never squash or watermelon. I know lots of people right now have been eating roasted pumpkin seeds. Those are something I have never tried either. I dried out some pumpkin seeds to plant next spring though.

Hello Shaggin! We don't have pumpkins here but squash is a family of pumpkins I think. Only that the pumpkin is larger than the squash. It tastes goods and really addictive. Though commercially available squash seeds are really salty and when you eat too much your lips will soar. Thank you for the response.

Lade, eating squash seeds is very addictive and on every special occasion, my aunts always asking me to buy them. I do like to eat when i am free and have time to sit down chatting and eating them with my mother, sisters and aunts. When my grandmother was still young, she enjoy eating them a lot. Nowadays, she can't eat anymore since her fake teeth unable to help her bite those squash seeds. Since from a few years ago, i discovered that the price of squash seeds had gone up in my area here. How about your area?

You can always maintain them crunchy by drying them to the sun. That's what my grandmother always do, whenever she wants to maintain those squash seeds which she bought in a big packet. So, you can always feels the crunchy whenever you bite those seeds.

In here, we can buy squash seeds in small packs at 1 peso each. The whole pack of 20 pieces is 18 pesos. It's much cheaper to buy per kilo. We are not buying much because it's so addictive and I fear that if we don't consume it fast it will be less crunchy. Thank you for sharing.

I can't honesty say that I've ever eaten squash seeds, however I do eat a lot of nuts, I take a bag of mixed nuts to the gym with me and after a strenuous work out, I eat the nuts as they have good protein value to feed my muscles plus I get very hungry after working out for 90 minutes. I like cashew nuts, walnuts and hazelnuts, they do get moreish though, you can't just have a few. I heard that pumpkin seeds are supposed to be good for you too.

Ohhhhh . . . yesterday I roasted some kabocha seeds!! My daughter's class had samples of various squash . . . so I bought the one she liked and we had it for dinner the other night. Well, I finally got around to roasting the seeds - I put olive oil, garlic power, chili powder and some paprika and sea salt. It was yummy that even my little son liked it!! But it wasn't a whole lot of seeds - so hopefully we'll be making more! Oh - and it was too messy - we ate the shell and all - ha ha!!!

When i bake (whole wheat)bread I always place squash seeds in there. It costs me a lot of time to peel them. And I have to peel them in my own room because without any exception, all my Pinoy friends ate them! It went so far that I put the seeds in an air tight box, hidden very well. LOL

I've never heard of eating squash seeds let alone watermelon seeds. I do however on occasion enjoy pumpkin seeds which is a squash obviously so I'm guessing they're somewhat similar if not the same as the ones you eat. Every Halloween I enjoy carving the pumpkin and baking the seeds myself.

It is really addicting. That I also experienced the same when we bought a kilo of that food. We can't stop eating the moment we open the pack. Until we noticed that the food was nearly finished.

The thing with these seeds, they are very delicious but also fun to eat.. We still have to work in order to eat what is inside. And it is had to get full with these food, so we eat and eat until we do feel full.

I like squash seeds too just as I enjoy cashew nuts, peanuts and fried corn. And you are right, its addicting as once you get started you can't seem to stop. Thanks for this discussion,as we are planning to go to Divisoria next week and I'll include this in our "to buy list". This is very much cheaper there if purchased by the kilo compared to its price in supermarkets.

Yes you are right. It is much cheaper when you buy per kilo and also from Divisoria. It cost 1 pesos for just 4.5 grams and the whole pack is around 18 pesos with 20 pieces of 4.5 grans each. I also want to go to Divisoria (first week of October) and the last time we went there it was packed with people already. So be careful. Thank you for sharing!

Hahaha! You said it right! It can be addictive especially if you have friends around or just simply in front of the tv. I guess our hands and mouth just needs to do something and not be left with nothing to do always.

I can relate with your situation. Ever since I am young, I always buy squash seeds in the sari-sari store. I buy a lot because I am also addicted to it though I am having a hard time opening the seeds. I has been a part of my childhood. Up until now, still eat it.
