Can you help me figure out what is going on with my Firefox Browser?

Friends and fellow myLot members, I needs some help fixing my internet browser. Firefox, my favorite internet browser, has been acting up. I have tried reinstalling it, and clearing the browser's history; though, it has helped some the problems still persist. Lately, the only thing that seems to work is rebooting the laptop, which is annoying because I have to close out of all the programs that I have open just to restart the computer. It is quite frustrating. Here is the list of Firefox's quirky behavior of late: Firefox Issues 1) Slowly loading internet pages. This improved somewhat after clearing the cache, but it is still a little bit of an issue especially like when I open a page with a lot of graphics on it like the first page for starting a new myLot discussion. 2) Server times outs. I've checked my WIFI connections that is not the issue. Sometimes, it will only be an issue on one tab. For example, I was working on myLot in one tab of Firefox while attempting to check some PTC sites in another tab. The tab that I was using for the PTCs started timing out, and would not load pages. Yet, the tab that I was working in for myLot continued to work. Then, I typed a really long discussion question, and it decided that it was time for the issue to spread to other Firefox tab, so I lost my entire post. 3) There are times that the graphics will not load on myLot instead it just lists the text that would correspond for the missing icons. 4) Firefox stops working when I try to load my myLot profile page. It does this pretty consistently. It will just say at the top that Firefox is not responding. What I Have Alredy Tried 1) Downloading and installing an updated version of Firefox. It kind of helped a little, but issues still persist. 2) Clearing the cache file. Helped a little with increasing the speed of the internet. 3) Checked WIFI, and ruled out that this is an issue with my internet provider and router. 4) Tried restarting the computer. It will only temporarily resolve the issue. Please provide advice on what else I might try to remedy this problem. It used to be that I had to restart once a day, but now it is several times a day.

Did you check out the virus? Maybe your PC has been infected with some virus or trojan or even an add-ins for firefox which is incompatible.

I run virus checker plus I have Cox that has a virus protection. Come to think of it, my virus protection software could be outdated, so I'll try to update it; then run virus check on the system. I would think that if it was a virus wouldn't I be having problems with multiple programs rather than just Firefox? I'm thinking an add-on may be the issue. I recall trying to get rid of some very annoying coupon app thing that showed up without me having any idea of how it got onto Firefox. Would uninstalling Firefox; then downloading and reinstalling remove any and all add-ons from Firefox? I'm just brainstorming here? Also, how would I save my bookmarks and scrapbook pages (it's a add-on to Firefox) so that I do not lose my saved bookmarks and pages by uninstalling Firefox?

Ah yes, that set of add ons is conflicting. Actually the issue is that Firefox has been undergoing rapid updates and the add ons are not being updated that fast. But still, once a newer version of Firefox gets installed, it automatically does a check with the current add ons and most of the times, these checks and the updates are good and correct. Still, this might be a potential issue. So try with DISABLING the add ons one at a time - so that you know which one is buggy and causing the issue. And as long as you dont remove an add on, the backup should be available once it is reactivated. The bookmarks can be backed up via - Bookmarks - Show all Bookmarks - Import and Backup - backup (for backup) and restore (for restore). At this moment I have no idea about how to take the backups from the plugins like Scrapbook. But maybe you can try the Add On Page and visit the page from Firefox or the Vendor to see how they work. Good Luck and keep us posted on how it went

Thank you! I will play around with how to backup Scrapbook. It is kind of similar to bookmarks, so maybe their will be a similar way to backup Scrapbook kind of like how you mentioned to backup the bookmarks.

I would (when starting the computer) went into safe mode (press F8 and choose "safe mode with networking"). You can install ESET (NOD32) Online Scanner (from the original site) and scan the computer in this way (select check mark for scanning archives and delete the virus). Then I will install AVG in normal mode and scan again (free for home use). Then disk defragmentation and update. Then go to reinstall Firefox and try again. Good Luck!

Hatley, I know that myLot has been glitchy. At first, I too thought it was just myLot, but then I noticed that I started having issues with other sites that I was working online. That was when I started thinking it was my browser rather than myLot. There are so many variables it is hard to know which one is the problem.

sjvenden, I do remember you from that discussion that we were having about the issues that we were having with myLot. It is good to see you again friend. I recall you thinking that you were having issues with Internet Explorer, and I recall that there were some issues with them attacking Internet Explorer. If memory serves me you thought that Firefox would be a little better than Internet Explorer because most of the time the hackers that cause issues and stuff target Internet Explorer because that is the most widely used brower. Is there a solid browser out there that is not being affected or under attack currently.

I think it's already time for you to invest in a new computer. You can also try reformatting your whole computer. It might help for the mean time.

sumthinexotic, I disagree. Definitely, I am not ready to purchase a new laptop. I have only had this one for about 2 years. The only issue that I am with it seems to be Firefox. It is a web browser problem not a computer issue.

Well I was getting ahead of myself, obviously. I only thought, because people usually get viruses via internet and we usually connect to the internet by using a web browser that you're computer somehow accumulated some. I somehow underestimated your computer and I apologize. I, too have trouble with firefox but it's not because of speed. Maybe you have so many add-ons, perhaps?

Some recommendation that you can follow: 1. Uninstall the firefox and download an older version. Because the latest version of firefox hava problem. 2. Use Opera or Chromium browser. Because IE is not recommended for some issues. 3. If this doesn't fix the problem than try reinstalling windows. 4. If you want a better and permanent solution. Use Linux. (Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Mint Debian etc)

aihmel, thank you for the advice and informative information. I was unaware that the latest Firefox version had issues. Well, I'm getting more and more clues that I am going to have to uninstall Firefox. I keep getting script errors, so I do think there is something wrong with Firefox itself. I'll try the tip above for fixing it first. I have not heard of Opera or Chromium before are these superior web browsers? Have you used them before? A. Ire they pretty user friendly? I had switched to Firefox years ago after getting tired of Internet Explorer's constant crashing issues
