Respond if you ever felt frustrated while you are writing or just plain angry that your writing career (professionally, freelance, or other) is currently in a standstill.
I love to write but there is the frustrating and mean side to it.It is a mixture of creativity and rules (mostly, grammar ones)but it is always a good exercise to express something, even if the emotion isn't exactly your own.
Anyway, I guess this little discussion is a mirror in what i am currently experiencing. I think I have good skills and I have good proof of this. I just hope and want for otehr people to appreciate.

After trying out various sites I finally settled down to one site the only site that did not depend on the number of visitors who read my articles. I was doing well there until I came to know that writers there are using software that produces ready made articles which they can submit in minutes on any subject under the sun. A true mockery of what writing is all about.

Dunno what kind of site it is.But i have a firm who employed at one time. they have to drop me since they are having a new direction in terms of content. I have no choice but it was fun. It would be good to get back the job but I'm not that too optimistic even for that.

Writing is a difficult task. It takes a lot of patience, intelligence and practice. I too experienced difficult periods but when I view the whole picture of my writing career, with all its ups and downs, I can say that I am happy with it overall. I suggest you try to think about your good times, your successes and your talent. I like to tell my writers who work with me a word of praise so that they are aware that they did a good job. When they err I tell them in a diplomatic way. After all we all make mistakes and we need to learn from them.

You should like a good boss. Can I apply?
Anyway, I am aware that I am in the not-so-good phase of the writing part. I try to amuse and cheer myself but it isn't working so far. I thank you for the advice. Even though as a writer, I should know it, a good reminder from other writers is a good indicator that I should sink into the worst. I wish some of my bosses and clients are like you, Sadly, some are not. I think feedback form some clients is like fighting for a tooth or a meager feast.

I have felt frustrated in the past, yes. I only really started writing seriously online in 2006, and at first I found it very hard, because of all the grammatical rules and so on: I was terribly rusty. Also, my writing style was quite immature in my view. Some folks liked my writing, and their encouragement was like pure gold to me. There were times I felt terribly demoralised, but I persevered. In time, I became quite happy with my writing. I'm not saying I'm 100% the writer I wanted to be, or could be...but I'm still happy with what I've achieved. I worked incredibly hard, often to the point of screaming frustration, endlessly revising, worrying everything I wrote to within an inch of its life. Writing is hard; or at least I find it so: after all, one is dealing with words, which are incredibly powerful tools. It's an awesome responsibility.

Thank you so much! You are right, writing's not an easy job. I hope you become the writer you want to be. The endless revising can send a writer crazy it's true; right now, I am taking it wasy, and only writing a tiny little bit each day.

I could never ask for such good response.I guess that I also find myself rusty sometime, because of the very high exceptions and the amount of work they want. If I am writing machine, I could probably do that. I try to please as much a possible but sometimes, it is really hard and tiring.
Like you, I am not yet t the writer that I want to be.I could use a great improvement but I can never judge myself fairly without an objective view. I like to tihnk that I too have grown and developed over the years. And yes,I also hate the endless revising which makes my hair fall more often than it should.
Words are really are powerful and some people tihnk this is an easy job.

Hi.. I understand how you feel... I've never attempted to be a professional writer... But I'm fairly good at it by now, thanks to myLot. In fact, I write better than I speak. I can put my thoughts better in writing than speaking... I felt the same way you feel now, when a website rejected me as a writer... It was awful shock to me... But I got over it... So, don't feel sad or keep feeling sadder... Just Move on..
Here are some tips. Know what you're going to write.. Find out different aspects of the issue, topic.. Then write about each of the aspects. Remember you need to be a good reader too, because reading brings you knowledge.. And knowledge is essential when it comes to writing...
Good Luck!

I don't know even if am really a professional one. I tihnk some writers will disagree with my claim. But i like to think myself as one since I am in the industry and trying to improve myself over time.
I also owe mylot a good bit of my writing since it helps me to be on my feet (is that supposedly be hands?)
I feel the same way I about writing. i tend to ramble when I am speaking and sometimes, I cannot speak at all. Sometimes, I like to think myself as a immune tor ejection but it does hurt and i tihnk my attitude toward it had improved.
Am always a good reader. If it was a paid job, I think we could earn a ton and not worry.

Oh wonderful... If reading was a paid job, then I'd have owned a large villa and a private jet too... LoL... I have read so many books about so many things. It is my hobby.. Whatever I can write today; it began with my reading... If I had not read, I could not have written anything... Essentially, reading improves one's knowledge... MyLot polished my writing skills... And yet i was rejected somewhere only a few months ago...
You can be what you want to be... You just need to work on it my friend... Take care... Good Luck... :-)

I have not felt frustrated with my writing career; honestly because I have not started it yet. I always made many excuses, the foremost is I don't have my own computer.
But that has changed now ever since I have a netbook and steady internet connection now I have no excuse not to make a serious effort to make money online. and I started going at it a few weeks ago.
Are these frustrations unavoidable?

Are these frustrations unavoidable? Yes, they aren't. But you do get used to it after a while.
It depends on how you cope with it I suppose, Presently, I think I am doing get but an encouragement form clients will be a great bonus. SO far none yet. Anyway, I bid you good luck on your online adventure.

For me, I feel most frustrated as a writer when I feel like I have to write it to fit some format. There have been times when I have had to write something to fit a certain format, and it was just not really my style or way that I write. This for me was frustrating. There have also been the times in the past when I was going to school that I had to write something for an assignment. Trust me there were times that I just completely felt frustrated because to me it was more like busy work, and I could not see the point of the writing. I believe writing should have a purpose.

jeanney, that is shy I like myLot because I can be more creative. It is not technical dry type of writing. I think it just depends upon what you are writing. There are times that you can put your personality into the writing; then there are times that it is research or technical writing that is drier.
For me, I am more of the type that will just sit down and write it out; then revise it. I have never been one for outlining. Even when needed, I can take an entire paper that is completely written and rearrange it to make it better. I did this a lot with our team papers when the content was really good, but the format made the paper seem redundant or the format did not convey the information the best. So I am great at revising, but I know others who far exceed my skills in editing.

Well, some writers do try to make their wiring as personal and non-constricting as possible.I prefer to have some format so that I can rearrange the information of what I am writing. saves me the time of figuring whether there is a prosper way to do do things.

THROWING BOTH HANDS IN THE AIR!!!! Oh yeah, I know that frustration real well and unfortunately my most frustrating thing to happen is I am working on a great scene and my family interrupts me. It isn't a one time thing either, it is my son asking for something, I get it, sit down, and then my husband calls, ect... Until I loss my creativity and just stop writing and wait for everyone to leave me alone again..

Yeah, my family doesn't get that unlike cooking, where In follow step by step instructions, writing is creative and if I have a flow going, distractions kill what I have.. But I did finally finish it and working on my synopsis now, but I think it took me twice as long..

Distractions are really hard to erase when when we are doing something. We try to accomplish whatever we can and leave with with no clue on what we are working about.

Writing is one of those things that takes an extreme amount of time and patience. And not to mention the willingness to fall flat on your face constantly and just the willingness to rip apart everything you've done(along with having everything you've done ripped apart). Every single time, I know the ideas are in my head, it is just a matter of getting them out.
That really is the problem a lot of the time. It's not coming up what to say, it's really trying to come up with the right way to say it. There are many times where sometimes words fail me at the worst times. All of these ideas are swimming in my head. But when it comes time to write, nothing. Even when it's something I'm doing for fun, it can be frustrating. Perhaps one could argue it is a blow to my pride, which could be true.

I think I experienced all of what you listed above. But I tihnk i also need to add the constant approval of the editor or the client who acts as the judge of your work and your worth as a writer.
Words, as someone said in here in the discussion , are very powerful tools. Ideas and words are very hard to squeeze out and communicate to people. It's easy to say that it is is easy but it not. Unconsciously, we try not to step into other people's toes even though e are guaranteed to express ourselves.

Yes jeanney, Sometimes even our close mate will not show up to our articles. During those times it hurts but we have to move out of it. These things will make us to write our next article better.
Some times we tent to forget some tricks in writing. Something needs to be interesting and laughable in each line. I am also improving in it day by day.

Writing is away to express your self and no one has to listen. If i talkand they ignor me it hurts my feelings. when writing i don't know if they put the page down or not, so it doesn't matter.
Anger never solved anything, neither did jealousy. When you are down writ to get your self feeling good. So when writing, express your self and make your self feel good.

Yes, it is a vehicle to express one's feelings. However, that talent can be extend beyond self-expression. A writer,in my opinion, always has a audience, whether it it himself for others.
I guess you are right that anger doesn't solve anything but feelings needs to expressed one way or another. But i think I could be more productive in writing it and trashing it all out.

I would like to write randomly instead of writing some passages as homework, because I do not need to consider whether I am right or not when I write what I want. Sometimes I will have writing tasks, and I will have to write carefully to prevent making some silly mistakes. This makes me uncomfortable. I know these tasks may help me improve, but I still do not write them because I will be frustrated when I get a low score.

I am with in this one. This the reaosn why I sometimes shun academic appear since they get bring, they get too technical and one slip and you're out. Writing is full of careful steps but it doesn't have to be boring. It s frustrating to have a low grade or feedback. I apprentice that it is feedback no the same.

Yes, I totally understand you there. Indeed there are certain times when a writer would feel that way. In my situation, I was boxed inside a very technical and stressful (due to deadlines) field of writing. That's why I really tried to somehow find a way out without actually quitting my job. That's when I got here. At least I can get to share my thoughts and ideas to you, guys. This is also a way of distressing myself. :)

It's a constant battle. If it'snot the isnpiration, it's the rules, as they says. It's frustrating just the same. I also think that I need to update those skills. I just hate it when everybody asks for a perfect writer who knows all the rules and can do no wrong

Well I'm more into painting myself but I think some of the same frustration applies at times. Sometimes its not always that easy but when possible I try to channel my feelings. I'll make a painting that is very dark or in some way expresses how I feel. I supposed that's not always possible though. Maybe try finding ways to relieve your stress? For me exercise makes me feel much more relaxed.

I really want to hug you upon reading this one, because this is exactly what I feel. Sometimes in the middle of what I am writing, when I experienced a lot of rejection from the past, it becomes traumatic on my part when I write articles or even reviews, knowing that sometimes the basis of rejection depends on the free will of the person who rejects it. When my articles or reviews are rejected, it makes me ask myself, am I doing it right? Am I learning from the mistakes of the past, do I need to have a degree to perfect my grammar? I think being a writer of anything, i can able to learn things in my way through online because I love what I am doing. but despite of it, I still feel I need to stop once in a while, compose myself and start again. And then I I will ask myself again, am I doing the right thing?
I love to write, I write ever since I was young. I write my story on my journal, I write fictional story in my own language, I write poem and even composed songs, but when I get old, i get confused and I cannot trust myself anymore if I am doing the right thing when it comes to writing. Maybe I am lost. But sometimes I feel I am in the right place, writing about my thoughts and writing what I learned. I am earning a decent money by writing articles so I need to help myself so that I can be able to submit my writings and I lost in the middle of it.

Hi Jeanneyvonne, if you love to write, just write.
Do not care about grammar and all such nonsense when you are writing.
You can always use professional grammar and spell checker to check the work later on when you have finished.
Grammerly is one such site to check for errors, and to rectify the mistakes.
However, the free trial period is just a few days.
It is better that you write a hundred articles, and then sign up at Grammerly.
In this case, you will gain the benefits, and learn the usage of proper grammar without paying a single cent.
When you have made enough money later on, you can use it for a month to check another few hundred articles.

Heard of Grammarly. I would love to keep it but of course, no good service comes with a free price tag. Anyway, I do love tow rite and I do waive the rules some ways (okay, after writing the whole idea). Also, I do know that reliance on programs like Grammarly can also be equally frustrating and not perfect.

Hi Jeanneyvonne! I certainly understand the frustrations of a writer. I have been doing freelance for about 2 years now and some days I love it because I can work at home; other days I hate it because I have to work at home! lol I actually get frustrated sometimes because I cannot keep up with the work for my clients and they have deadlines. It is also not the things I really enjoy writing. I am so busy with freelance that I do not get to do the writing I so much enjoy. But writing and reading are great exercises for the mind! Keep writing!

Hi jeanneyvonne,
I think it is normal for one to feel frustrated when things don't go well with one's writing especially when one feels that one has put in a lot of effort and gets not much appreciation or recognition.
Getting angry and whining about your frustration will get you nowhere. Just accept it and move on. If you're not in the mood for writing then stop writing until you're ready again. You must be patient and persevere if your desire to succeed as a writer is great or else you'll not make it.

I can empathise with how you feel. Writing - because it is a creative art - can be very frustrating. Sometimes you think your work is stunning, but when you put it out there as a submission, it is rejected. Sometimes, a piece that you think is only average is accpeted by a glossy magazine and printed - then they send you a big fat cheque too!!
Just carry on being creative - and eventually someone will sit up and say "Hey - this is great writing." And they'll pay you to publish it. Keep it up ...

Writing is a beautiful place to express all our emotions. To some it heals their wounds , to others it is for financial purposes that is why they write. To write our own is always an advantage . There you are healing a wound inside you. Where as if you write somebody's emotion , guess it is less in emotion , less in depth. It would be plainly writing and no heart. It is so beautiful to write, it is even so addicting. Never stop writing , soon you will be so expert on it and it will later become your passion.
