i have been very careful on the kind of food that i buy. so i just choose those foods are healthy and cheap. usually i won't eat a lot of expensive things. but my sister seems not to have learn her lessons well. she does not know how to budget up to now. thankfully i have learned how to budget well. i think that $25 budget is more than enough for me for the week for good including for her food if she would also eat the food i would prepare. but usually she would buy other things actually not any more needed.

If you are sharing food, it may be good in getting her involved in planning the grocery list. She may be reacting to a feeling of not having power, so she simply goes out and buys additional things in an effort to exert control.
I agree that it is possible for two people to eat healthfully for about $25 per week. However, if you stick strictly to such a budget, you do deny yourself certain foods that are both healthy and tasty. For instance, sticking to such a strict budget may entail forgoing certain types of seafood--both a loss in terms of culinary enjoyment and health benefits.

Maybe you can teach your sister how to make a budget and help her keep to it. I'm all for saving money and budgeting. Buying things that are on sale or buying bulk is a good way to save money. Also, by buying generic items instead of name brand products whenever possible. Usually items are the lowest shelf or the highest shelf are some times cheaper than items at eye level.

it seems to me & i'm not judging, is that you are what I call frugal. especially in these times, you have to be when it comes to food. whereas my mom and I would always get take out on Fridays, we usually do burgers and fries. but now we both have to watch what we eat because things that are healthy for you somehow are not. saving money is key, especially when you don't have any (like me)
