1. Learn to agree to disagree. When someone has a different opinion, respect him. Besides, it is impossible for all of us to have the same line of thinking.
2. Do not shove your opinion/comment to other member's throat. Do not take it too personally when someone disagrees with you.
3. When you have nothing to say/contribute to the discussion, do not respond at all. It would be better than posting senseless sentences.
4. Negative comments are welcome, just construct it in a "nice" way (no bad words and whatnot).
5. Be friendly and respect the other members. Who knows, they might help you with a problem in the future.
If you have more in mind, feel free to post them below.
Have a nice day everyone. :)

LOVE IT! Couldn't have said it better myself. And what's so great about this list, it can be applied to all aspects of life! This needs to be broadcasted into everyone's brain. And not just broadcasted, but explained in a way that makes sense and applies to each individual (you know some people just take a little bit longer to get it...) Excellent job! :)

Lol I did not even realized that this discussion can be applied in real life until you said it! I guess I just hit two birds with one stone. :D Thank you for making that clear for me! :)

yes. whatever you have stated here is applicable for day to day life in the outside world. the only difference is we are not seeing X,Y and Z in person. But they hae all emotions -- love, hatred, happiness, sorrow etc. We should understand that and then move around carefully,
simplepleasures -- what are you doing? a student or working in a company.?

For me having a healthy debate in one discussions is very good. I always wait for that to see in my discussion. It is okay that you have an opposite idea. You are right, all we just need is to respect each and everyone's opinion or point of view. The best thing about this site is that even the discussion maker disagree with the responder's opinion, it doesn't end up with arguing with one another and they also became friends in the end. So there is no reason for me to leave the site. I want to be here for the rest of mylot.

How are you? You were dejected and posted a discussion. I remember to have responded in that also. the difference of opinion is bound to be there and we have to learn to live with it. However we should have an idea that none is bigger or smaller than other members.

Healthy debates are so great! It leads to a wealth of learningn new information. You can express you opinion, while gaining new insights at how you can view the issue that is being discussed.
The nice thing about myLot is that we debate in such a healthy way unlike the politicians. We do not speak over each other. We do not insist that it is still our turn even when we are out of time. We use our manner here.
As I have said above, I think especially when it comes to debating a topic it is important to keep an open mind. This is important because this is the only way that we can learn from each other. A quote that I once heard that the highest level of knowledge is to let ourself be open to unlearning and relearning that which we have already learned. I mean this by stating that just because we learned one thing one way, we still need to be open to learning new perspectives. These new perspectives may change the way we view the topic, which leads us to let go of some of the things that we learned previously, so we can acquire even more knowledge.

That is right as well. Healthy debates and meaningful discussions should be the foundtation of Mylot. Afterall, the essence of this website, i think is to gather people from different places and races and expand their minds through discussions.

Good for you silverfox. Really, the best thing to do is ignore those kind of people because once we fed them with attention, they will get more agressive. Not to mention it is tiring to argue with them - feels like you are just going in circles.

I enjoyed reading your guidelines. I agree with you on them. Unfortunately I feel that not everybody appreciates how good mylot is if it were used properly. There are many members who are aggressive in their comments, or who use unsuitable language. There are also several inactive members. If only we all made it a point to post valuable and interesting content it would be so much better for the site and for ourselves too as we would earn more money. Hope more people will give heed to this discussion and try to put your tips in practice.

I am afraid there is nothing we can do about them. The best we could hope for is for the admin to make an intervention espexially for those qho uses "unsuitable languages". I am sure they are aware that there are guidelines in this site but they choose to ignore them since they think what they have to say is right and they think people would admire them for that. I guess not giving them the attention they want so much would be the best punishment.

Hi, simplepleasures! I think your post is a very helpful reminder for all of us. Thanks! I am sure a lot would be enlightened with those simple things.

simplepleasures, I would add that we should always mind our manners on myLot. I think that it is always polite for the person that creates the discussion to comment back to people's posts that they post on the discussion. I think that many members do this; however, I have seen some newbies that never reply to responses that are posted. Others will only respond to those that are posted on the first page. If you create a discussion, I think you need to be prepared to interact and comment back on everyone's responses. It is a matter of respect and courtesy to those that have responded to your discussion. It also helps to keep the conversation going.

Thank you as well for responding in my discussion. :-)
It is important for us to be reminded of these simple things because these simple things are what we often forget. :-)

simpleasures:
welcome to mylot.
All the members are equal. all have equal rights and equal responsibilities. We have to learn to co-exist. The common kitty is to be shared by all. So we can live well by allowing others also to live well.
Participate in discussions where you are strong and comfortable. In case another member disagrees -- he is still our friend only,

ravis, very well said. I would add that everyone should remember that you can respect each other even if you do not agree with what they are saying in the discussion. I think this is really important.
Also, it is really great if you ask questions to gain more insight into why someone views the issue in a different light. We are a global community here, and we can learn so much from each other. Many times people from different parts of the world view a topic differently. When we can learn about how others in various part of the wold view that topic, it greatly increases our ability to see the topic from a global perspective.. It is the difference many times of looking at the topic with blinders; then openning your eyes to see the big picture.

Well said ravisivan. Since Mylot is a "community" we need to learn to respect one another. No one is better than anyone. Like what you said, we are all equal here.

This is a great discussion. Let me see what else I can add that others have not already mentioned, and something other than what I have already mentioned in comments so far.
I think the biggest one that I would say is that myLot is all about participating. It is meant to be a discussion. It is not about simply writing responses for others to read. So, I would remind people that if you come to discussion that is already started be respectful read the posts that have already been made by members. You can always rate those posts and add comments if there is something that you can add to the conversation. I would also state that your comment does not have to just add information to the discussion. Your comment could be to ask a question about the discussion in progress. Maybe, you want to know more about what someone said in their response to the discussion. Asking a question by using the comment is a great way to learn more, and keep the discussion going here on myLot.
The other one that I would add is to have fun, enjoy yourself, and be yourself on the site. Feel free to share your life experiences on the site. This is what makes this site great. Again the majority of people here on myLot, they are so kind and genuine. It is so nice when people share their stories that help to enhance both the discussion and get to know each other better on myLot. This is how we make great friends here.
