Sandy and Election Day

With millions out of power and transportation, and information leaking in to those who did not evacuate, what do you think would be a fair way to resolve the worries surrounding election day after a natural disaster like this? Romney is on the campaign trail under the guise of a benefit, but at least he and his wife are asking for donations to Red Cross. The same Romney who told a victim of Irene who found herself homeless to go home and call 211. The same Romney who says that emergency room visits are a fantastic way to run healthcare. There are talks of delaying the election so that everyone can vote with no issues. This is of particular concern since the GOP has tried desperately to suppress the vote, in the particular areas that were affected by Sandy. They know the dems will benefit from their votes, and would likely make it as difficult as possible for an orderly election. If Romney is a gentleman, I think he should go on national tv and say that he would like to extend the day of the election.

I don't care if Election day is moved to a later day or not. I will be voting. I also know who I am voting for. I think President Obama will be re-electric. He will help out the people who need help that have been affected by Hurricane Sandy. I think Romney is a moron and should not be our next president!

he is not going to. he is a conservative republican. that would be standing up too much for the people. you see, everyone is thinking that if we go back republican with romney, it will help save us from,"the evil hands of obama". he is just going to get up there and be bush's educated version....bush 7.0. don't expect too much out of romney.

Personally I don't like the idea of changing the election date. I'm in New Jersey, where the hurricane did immense damage, and I'm not about to let that stop me from voting. I do think that there should be accomodations made at the state level though to perhaps make emergency rules for people who would like to use absentee ballots because their polling locations in areas like Atlantic City are flooded and nonfunctional. I just think it would create a huge mess if, on the national level, they tried to alter the voting dates. A lot of people and employers plan well in advance for these things.

It isn't up to Romney or Obama. Congress sets the day of the election. It would be up to Congress to change it.

Thanks a ton for sharing this discussion. Well yes u are absolutely correct, the Elections should be postponed looking at the way people are suffering due to the hurricane. There is no point in having elections at this time and rather postponing it would be a wise decision so that everyone can give their votes and vote for their favorite President. Unless and until the situation does not comes back to normalcy there should not be any discussion on elections. What say?

First of all, it is not up to Romney or Obama about whether to postpone the date of the election. It is up to Congress, which I think is still in recess. Besides Congress is divided, and the partisanship among Republicans and Democrats would ensure such a motion got nowhere.

I absolutely can't stand Romney and as Moon said..he probably won't do that. I'm not a huge Obama fan either. I think he is inexperienced and lame but Romney?? He will be the downfall of us all, I think .
