I live halfway across the content from where Sandy hit. It has now gone into Canada. The devastation left behind the storm is absolutely devastating. Whole towns wiped out. In New York city and in New Jersey, subway tunnels were flooded. Those peop[e depend on the subways too get around. Hundreds of thusands of people without power yet. Our city sent 26 trucks and about 50 men to help restore power, but it will take 3 days for them to get there, because of the distance. Those heavy trucks can't be driven as fast as a car. Sandy's effects were felt all the way up the east coast from Florida to Maine, but New Jersey and New York were hardest hit. This includes the most heavily populated city in the United States. New York, New York.

Oh,I could see the frightening viewings on TV,and the similar things happened in some of the rest of the Americans except the US.Yes,restoring power is the main thing after such a disaster. But nothing was easy since the effects were so heavily.I believe all is going very well right now.Have a nice day!

I feel very fortunate to live on the other side of the US. I spent most of the day yesterday listening to HLN and how the people on the east coast were faring. Not well it seems. And other 3 or so days until they may have electricity again. NY and New Jersey fared badly. Those and 12 or so other states. And as of yesterday afternoon the storm was moving inland. It is at $20 Plus Billion of damage.

Yes, I think things are going pretty well there with the repair and so forth. Lots of people lost their homes and are flooded out. It was horrible and will take along time to get back in perfect order.

It's said it's the most badly storm that has attacked the US,so the damage is natrually vast. But American people can overcome any difficulties with the help from their government.

Hello oldsix. I live much further inland beside the great lakes at least 800 miles from the devastation in New York and New Jersey. As bad as the storm was the lack of preparedness and disorganization has had a worse effect on the people living there than the storm had. There are a lot of people still with out electricity and so heat. They are with out water and food. and now they are hut with another storm, a northeaster which is a very bad snow storm. But we are a great country and we will survive. Help comes from all over the country with water food and electricians to help get the power up and running again.

I agree.Sometimes man-made bad effects are more serious than a disater brings if there are not proper and enough preparedness and organization.Yes,the USis a high efficiency country, you'll soon comeover all the difficulties.Have a nice day!

Hiya six, I am not from the U.S.A. but have been watching the devastating effects it has had on New York itself. We do not have those kind of Hurricanes here but we do have very bad flooding like they have had and all those underground places that have got flooded out the same happens here too on a big scale. Lots of lives lost here too because of that every year and so I feel for them I really do. Once we got caught up in one of those flash floodings and its quite frightening if you do not get to higher ground it really is. Hope they are much more sorted out now a lot of Spanish people living their and just like the others have got no power or anything it will take I guess. Thoughts go out to them all. Have seen the effect in China too I learned that the two great Rivers of China caused much sorrow over the years. Hwang Ho and Yantze sorry for the spelling I am spelling it how it sounds. They are mighty Rivers like the Ebro and Guadalquivir of Spain just a few big Rivers here too. Lets hope it does not happen again it must have been a big big shock for them but here we have to be on alert when the Rains start flooding in a big way.xxx

I could see those frightening screens about New York and the other areas in the US through TV news. And every year there are similar things happening in different areas around the world. My small town encountered a flood in 1996,and I saw my father's house collapse as well as the neighbours'. Oh,I guess you can learn Chinese easily in your cuountry since the Confucius Institutes are set up more and more in Europe.Yes,each year both the Huanghe River and Changjiang River bring flood for storms nights and days. Hehe,we can hope that natural disaster never happen, but we have to guard against them well in advance.

Hiya six., Luckily they might be getting back to normal now. In Andalucia the Guadalquivir has burst its banks again and has caused widespread damage especially to the Olive crops this year. That must have been really scary to see that about your Father´s House too. Oh no I don´t speak Chinese I can only say a few words here and there and quite badly too I think. We learned about your two biggest Rivers of China at School and I have always remembered how very powerful they are. Yes we can hope that it is never going to happen to us especially. In the States another Storm is coming up so it seems.xxx

It's not so easy to help the areas that was hit by Sandy to recover to what the people expect, but as long as their lives are safe, everything will be fine after their hard work.

One thing that is interesting about natural disasters in the U.S. is that you really see how lucky we are to live within such a stable system. I only had a short power outage in my city (it's not too far east), but I have communicated with many friends in NYC and New Jersey. Things are difficult for them, but it is nowhere near as horrible as it could have been. For example, people whose small businesses were completely trashed by the storms (and looting) were covered by their insurance. They are able to pay their employees as though they have been working, and their insurance companies will pay them for damaged goods. Also, since it is such a big country, lots of people who work in power, construction, etc. industries from various regions are assisting in the rebuilding. My heart goes out to those who did suffer from the storm. However, I am really proud of the way my country was able to respond.

Well,it's so fine for everyone to have some lucky opportunities all the life.I learnt that New York City and New Jorsey were hit the most heavily. But it's good enough that your government gave help in time and I hope the rebuildings are going smoothly.Have a nice day!

It's not only China and Us that suffers calamity every year. I guess every country faces calamity in different ways every year. I have seen the news and it's really sad when big countries like US faces such devastating event. This only proves that modernization and technology has no match when it comes to nature's wrath.

We were impacted by the hurricane in a certain sense because of the fact that our temperatures in our area dropped a whole lot and we also had a lot of wind and rain on Monday and Tuesday as a result of the hurricane. However, living where I live we are lucky to never have to face the worst portions of hurricanes. We didn't really have any damage in our area. However, some people less than two hours away from us actually experienced a blizzard as a result of the hurricane this week in the northeast.

Yes,all the people nearby received more or less impactings.I'm very glad that you didn't have to do the tiring rebuilding work. And I hope everything is going very well now.Good luck!

We weren't hurt like most of the East Coast. My city is in the upper middle of Ohio. So on our left, Toledo. wasn't supposed to get much wind. To our East, Cleveland, was looking for big winds and power outages. We, being on the lake, were looking for floods and high winds. The winds weren't as high as we expected and I haven't heard of anyone losing power in our city. I was worried mostly about friends and relatives on the East Coast. My friend in New Jersey was on Facebook all day and came out in good shape. While continually watching the news and hoping everyone was okay, I played a game with Selena Gomez on Facebook. You keep on even when things look bad.

In different areas the hurt was different, and having no electricity, food and links was the worst, but the news said the help was quite in time in all the states and cities that the storm attacked.

I am from the midwest and have not been effected. I do have family in the Northeast, New York State, that have not had power in a few days. They are running up their data plans keeping people updated on facebook. My aunt is charging her phone from her car, not that she can go anywhere until the company comes and clears the two huge trees that are covering her driveway. She is used to snow storms, so keeps several weeks of necessities in the house at all times, has a wood burning stove that can be used, and generators that can be run off and on to keep the fridge cold.
