I heard this statement before a few times but never really understood what it means. Does it mean what touches your emotions easily or what?

it's the behavioral aspect of a person. what makes somebody tick is just like what makes that person behave in a certain way. the reasoning behind a person's action... in the quest for understanding what makes "YOU"... you. like if i look at you now with several of your discussions pertaining to online investments (maybe 15-20%), i might wonder what makes you tick... what drives you to reach that financial success... another example is another mylot friend who usually post discussions about rants. like 9 out of 10 discussions are mostly rants. at times i wonder what made him a little bit bitter to behave in such a way. it can be just a figure of speech, but can also be taken in its literal meaning.

That's an interesting different meaning from the first one given which is about what makes one angry. So your interpretation of what makes you tick is what makes that person behave in a certain way, which speaks about one's behavior, and not only about being angry. Hmmm, it makes a lot of sense to me. Talking about my topic discussions, you may be right that I speak about investment a bit more than the others and probably more than 20% of the time. So if this is the case, what makes me tick are those things and topics concerning making money, does this make some sense? The other example you had about a mylot friend who rants 90% of the time, so it means what makes him tick are things that makes him bitter. Looks like a good explanation to me about this phrase:D

hmmnn what makes you tick... i guess i'd go further and deeper... that when it comes to finances, you got a drive to be a self-made financially-abled individual and that you wanna learn more and earn more... that's why you make those mylot topics about online earning. you gained a lot of work and earning experience both online and offline that you want to capitalize on that to earn multiple streams of income if not the easier way then the surer way perhaps. just guessing here BD4Me. hehe

I believe it means what actually makes you function, "go", what makes you who and what you are...

If this is the case, what makes me tick would be my work and everything that influences me to function and act, is this what you're trying to point out? I'm sorry but I do hope you could give more examples to your interpretation because I vaguely understand it.

In otherwords, what makes you the person you are, makes up your 'being' so-to-speak. It's like asking "what makes the world go round?" For example, I am very independant, self employed, opinionated, outgoing, generous to a fault, and I think these characteristics are what makes me "tick", it's what makes me do, and say, and be the person I am. And by the way, the other use you were referring to was as in 'being ticked off' which is being upset or angry. Hope this helped a little.

I've always thought that the term "What makes you tick?" meant what are the things in your life that are the most important to you. With that said, I can say that the things that make me tick are my family and my friends as far as the people that I have to have in my life in order to enjoy it. However, working online and spending time on the computer is also something that is a very important part of my life.

I think your meaning is something that is quite the opposite of the interpretation of others which is about being angry and annoyed. Your interpretation is on the positive side of things which is about the things that are most important in my life. Now I'm a bit confused which meaning would be correct. If I am to follow your line of thinking, what makes me tick then are my family, my favorite sports like tennis and chess and my ability to work at home without a boss. These are what makes me tick. Can someone please enlighten us which one is really the meaning of the term 'what makes me tick'? :D

Sometimes past grudges or not so good thoughts would get me ticked a bit or react. Especially if its some minor person whom I'm annoyed of, certain annoying text messages. It depends on what I feel lol.

I see, so your meaning of "what makes me tick" is "what makes you annoyed", is this correct? This will be similar to the meaning of "what makes me angry" as shown by our first mylot friend who shared in this topic. I could guess being annoyed would be one of the ticks, but maybe it's about things that 'triggers our emotions easily', is this conclusion correct? I'm not sure. I do hope you have less of those annoying text messages coming into your celphone :D

It means: what could set your temper off. I am generally a calm person, but when I hear some bad things thrown at my family, that is when I really get enraged.

So does it has the same meaning as 'what makes you easily angered'? I can see you love your family so much and that is good. I would also be angry if some people attack my family in a way that it hurts them, and I would surely be one to protect my family from such attacks.

So it's something that annoys me and makes me angry or something that touches my emotions easily. if that is the case, I would say it could be when someone tries to show their superiority in obnoxious ways, but that doesn't make me angry but it does makes me annoyed. Well, when I do get annoyed of such I try not to think about them for a long time and the annoyance subsides quite quickly.
