Just an hour left and office hours will be over.Long weekend again.
Do you have a colleague who is cramming when office hours is about to be over.Doing things that have to be done if there is only few hours before the work hour is over.Spending most of time in surfing the net, just doing Facebook than working on jobs needed.Cramming and get mad/irritated if he got disturbed cause he is running out of time.As you are the one who have to adjust since he is busy doing things in short period of time, which he can do in enough time that used doing other things that not needed in work.

Hello
I work as Lietuviu-Deutch Translator in an office.
I actually, i work like 2 hours a day, Rest of my day i spend Mylotting, checking my Facebook, chatting with people, or just talking with my co-workers. My boss knows that and he don't really care since i know my job good and I always complete my day's job in good quality in like 2-3 Hours of intensive work. I guess my work is boring :)
Happy mylotting!

Actually, it sounds to me you have an interesting and flexible job. Your boss does not mind too much perhaps because he is paying you for the 2-3 hours you are working anyway. So, it is really none of his business what you are doing for the rest of the day.

Oh we don't have that kind of person in our office.
In our office, everybody is working their own thing and knows how to manage their time well. That way, before the buzz goes off for dismissal, they already have freshened up themselves and have kept their things well already.

Yeah time management is really needed but we really have to focus on our work. We should not spend most of our time in surfing the net that he always do I guess. Then when office hour is about to be over, most of us are preparing to go home, he was cramming on his work as if he has so many things to do.

Ardoy, pity to declare that whenever the office hours nearly end of the day, i am the only person that would have to settle everything. I had to make sure everything in order, before i left the office. Usually, i would need to work an extra of 30 minutes almost everyday before i can left the office. Sad to say, those extra hours are not liable for claim since it is part of my duty. Lucky now, i don't have to pass through these type of problem anymore.

Used to deal with it most of the time but don't get bothered now.I just focused on my own work to be done to avoid any misinterpretation in my part again.I am too tired of that. But it could be different somehow if my work would be affected in any means.I would probably take professional actions that could solve it, don't care if he will get mad and irritated.

I've been lucky in that all of the jobs that I've had in the past were not jobs that had strict deadlines. That meant that if I wanted to get out of there early then it was something that I would be able to do. Now my mother does have a job that has strict deadlines and that does mean that she does have to typically stay at work later on the days when they have a holiday the following day. I'm so glad that I've never personally been in that kind of a situation.

Are you saying that your officemate is doing Facebook while in the office and now cramming cause he/she has to do those office jobs instead of facing facebook?
THat will be a sign of irresponsibility, I can say!
When you are in an office, it is your obligation or responsibility to do what your job is, and not facebook.
Sign of being pathetic, I guess. Not really a good one...tsk tsk

Yeah exactly. Facebook is more prioritize than work, I could say. Then cramming when deadline of office hours will be over. I was bothered before and try to do what is the right thing to so but it seems that he take it too personal and got misinterpreted. I am not bothered now as long as my job is not affected but once it does, well I would do what is right to do professional. Dont care what he would think.

I guess there are just people who feels they do their best in beating the clock! But that is my exact opposite. I'd rather work intensely and efficiently as early as I can so that I would not feel stressed beating the time.

Yes there are some who are best in that but if it don't result into best and instead result into something that make the work more complicated and consume more time to be done that lead to domino effect.Hard to deal but need to have to so it won't turn out into something worst.

Hi ardoy0731,
That's a strange working environment you're in. Why does your boss/superior allow such behavior in the office is something I do not comprehend? Or perhaps there's no boss in the office and that he only cares about the end results? Anyway if I were you I would leave your colleague alone and leave the office and have a good time myself.

that was really annoying and to be honest I hate employees who are relaxing whenever the boss is away. The office is for work and not for personal things.
what you can do is to inform your boss about it. do it in writing and if you are hesitant to sign the letter, then don't. just state your observations. I'm sure your boss will be alarmed about it. Your IT department should disable internet access that are not related to work.

Yeah annoying and irritating. Maybe was a bit used to it and dont wanted to be bothered but still there are times that would still feel it especially if your work is being affected too. There was a time where in he cant access in Facebook on his computer but it doesnt stop him and transfer to other computer that was not using and occupied.

At my office, I'm usually the one who'd be left behind at the end of business day. My colleagues are pretty good in managing their work and time to always leave as soon as the clock says 5pm. Especially when it is going to be a long weekend, every one seems to be ready to leave even before the time. I tend to procrastinate, but I make sure I am not affecting others. I will bear the consequences myself if I chose to delay my work and to have some time to myself during work hours.

Well at least you spend more time to work than anything else that are not related to work and do your best not to bother others. Well I guess people are really different with each other but we should also have to be aware and sensitive with people around us. Better know resposibilities to avoid bothering other people.

I used to have colleague who crams when office hours is almost over or when the deadline is close.I remember, few years ago, I ended up fighting with one of the staff from another department. I caught her several times procrastinating and sometimes just dilly-dallying her job. One day, she was playing solitaire on the internet. I asked her if she were finished typing the report but she just ignored me and continued playing.I informed the department head that she was the cause of the delayed. To cut the long story short,we ended up bandying words.

Well I guess there are really people who are like that.
I also experienced it but I guess I was always the one who made distance to avoid getting misinterpreted. You just trying to help but taking it differently and personal. It just work and we have to be professional.

I don't have colleague like that. Most are not cramp with work anyway, so lazy day all day at office. Only a few department that actually work. Still not so crazy work. In your case, just leave him alone. He will get it someday. The work quality will show when you are in a rush. When I am in a rush, I can make so many mistakes. So don't worry, be happy and stay away from this person. Don't want to waste your energy with this kind of person.

My job is about project installation, most time we spent is outside. Some guy i knew of my group was just like that .Though we are far away from the offices and get busy step by step and get tight cooperation each orther,he always find a amusement to play, sometime play computer games, sometme text cellphone messages,we always cried:"you, hurry up".As what i said before ,our job need be done by a team in which everone should get his part,so because of his procrastination we often got late.We havent been ok with speed of progress till he was removed by the boss..

We work as team so we better do our part we have to do our job best so other people around us wont be affected cause its like a dominko effect somehow. We can do things to relax and take away stress of work but be responsible and professional enough to do our part and work so everything will be okay and done in proper time.

It drives me crazy when people wait until the last minute to do things at work. My job is relatively slow and I manage several people. It drives me crazy when they try to put things off until the last minute or work ten times faster the last hour of their shift in hopes of leaving on time. I tell them all the time I can stay as late as I need to its on them.
