Disney is buying Lucasfilm for over 4 billion dollars. This sets the stage for Disney to make the long rumored 3rd trilogy in the Star Wars series. Plans are already underway for the 7th film to be made by 2015. It's not know who will write or direct the film but George Lucas will be an advisor. At the age of 68, Lucas had said he was to old to continue the series on his own.

I surmise that the trilogy sequel (Episode 7 to 9) will either be played several years from the time Luke and the rebels defeated the Empire, or right after it happened. If the former is true, then the original actors who have aged will still play their roles but only in supporting ways and there will be new, younger lead actors who will play different characters. If the latter is true then I guess the characters of Luke, Lea and Han Solo will be given to younger actors and the original actors will not be in the cast. I think either way, there will be a new set of villains and enemies.

Going back to what Lucas said years ago, when he originally talked about 9 movies but later denied plans for the last 3, the only two characters that were supposed to be in every movie were the robots. We'll have to wait and see for what Disney does.

Since these movies are supposed to be set in time after the first 6, I don't think we'll have Dart Vader to kick around anymore.

As a SW fan since the dawn of the age in 1977, I have to admit to getting mixed feeling over this issue when I first heard the news. Actually, at first I just said, "No way!" and then I calmed down and thought about it. I've adjusted to the whole idea, but I will cringe if I ever see photos of DV doing photo ops with kids at Disney World. The photo of DV riding the Teacup ride was bad enough. But still, it's great to know that the saga will live on. Just hope they don't limit the releases the way they do with all the other classic Disney movies. Can you imagine only being able to purchase a SW movie every few years or so? Ack!

Maybe they could do a PRE-preqilogy, with Yoda and Jabba the Hut before they were warped by Awesomeness (back when Jabba was just a portly smuggler & Yoda was a fresh-faced paduwon-learner). I could play Jabba, or do the voice for Yoda! (I'm seeing both of them having a body-changing story similar to Anakin/Vader). Any casting-calls in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma?

Lol, it's actually would be epic if they do really publishing those, haha. I do really expecting something good with this new release. Hopes that the new technology supporting the cinema nowadays can be used for maximum experience in this long series saga.

I'm not sure I like the idea of Disney or anyone else having control of the Star Wars universe. It's Lucas' baby. I know the whole saga is his to do with as he pleases but I just don't know if anyone else can do it justice, even with George as an advisor. Maybe it will work out good but I just think I would like it better if STAR WARS was retired along with Lucas.

I think it's better to have Disney take over than some other companies. At least this way we hopefully will never be subjected to a cheap remake of one of the original 6 movies.

Maybe its all about...... The aftermath of the end of the empire, the evil about to strike again with skywalkers coming to the rescue. Cliched. But who cares. All I want to see is a new Star Wars movie. It would be great I am sure with Disney making it. I am loving it.

Supposed Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford have been in contact with Lucas to start negotiating contracts.

It sounds like they may be following the original plan of Lucas which was to have three films in a time following the original 6. Although iy also sounds like Disney will be making other movies that are off shoots of the original story.

Disney owns the intellectual property rites to Indiana Jones but Paramont Pictures owns the film rites. THX1138 would be interesting to see redone. The original was too bleak to be popular and nobody had heard of Lucas at the time.
