Someone told my daughter that there is a phone number you can call
to see if your area is on the outage list...
Well she called and she was advised that Con Ed(electric company)
didn't even have my area on the list as being out..They advised her
that they would check out my area no later than tomorrow...They
didn't however say the power woulD be back on tomorrow,,,
But can you believe that if we hadn't called they wouldn't have
even known our power was out...I just seem to find that hard to
believe...I live right off a main steet and there are many neighbors
there also..
Anyway, I am still at my daughters and today my son came over because
it cold in our home...
I just continue to thank God for her and her family for opening her
doors to us...She says "MOM are you kidding, I wouldn't have it any
other way"
WE ARE BLESSED...

That is strange. If we loss power, I do have to depend on my husband or neighbor to call because we have digital phone, so when we lose power, we loss the phone too and I don't have a cell phone like my neighbor and husband do. Either everyone on your grid has digital phone and no cell, or they like having no power...lol

I am not sure what you saying, but I am in agreement with you
about some people in the area may not have cell phones...I don't
know about the "everyone on your grid has digital phone and no
cell or they like having no power"...
I can't imagine anyone like being without power....I see the lol,
but its just not a funny situtation to be making jokes to me....
sorry....
have a good week.....

Bj, the "LOL" was not a joke to you, but to some who may like having no power or just don't know enough to "call" the electric company...I also don't know how you see it as a joke towards you since you are at your daughters with power while others are not, like I was not years ago. So I can relate to having no power for days...

I have to say that is pretty bizzare that they did not know that your power was out! Especially if you have neighbors who I'm assuming were also without power.
As for your daughter...of course she would not have it any other way! That's how families are. My daughter, son in law and 2 grandkids came to my home because they lost power and I get where your daughter is coming from...I'd not have it any other way. My daughter didn't even question it. she just walked in and said , "You got coffee right?" I said "of course" and she announced that they were here for coffee, showers and warmth. They just all made themselves right at home. I get where you are coming from though. If it were me that had to go to their house...I'd be just like you and also for no reason.

How old is your son? I can somewhat relate to him as I think I'd be the same way if given that option in the same situation. I have this thing about being "home" and even if I were at my daughter's where I'd be more than welcome..I'd go home if it were at all possible and she would get after me.

My son just turned 44 and he dosen't want to leave the house
unattended at night when there is no one there...But if its
cold, I am out of there...yes he would rather be home, but
the bad thing about this is that... He's on vacation!!!
but he did not have plans to go away anyway but neither did
he intend to spend it in the dark or cold house....

A few years ago there was a tornado in the county. I knew someone whose house was blown away, but it was three days before the Red Cross knew that they had been hit. I can see that because it was a very rural area. I do not know how they would miss an entire neighborhood in a large city, though.

Thats what I am talking about,,,I am sure someone in my neighborhood
has call...Maybe some just negelected to put it into the system
but'it just seem really unlikely that they did not know...Like I
responded in another response. This is a village of 28,000 plus
people and most of the place is in the dark at least 2/3 of the
village is in the dark....

Yep, thats exatly what I said, I mean its not only my home
without power, it basically 2/3 of the village without power..
only 1 supermrket in the entire village opened, no MacDonald,
Burger King, no resturants, no shoping in the shopping area,
all without power...no traffic light or anything,,,in a village
of more than 28,000 plus people...

Wow well unless people call and report it they usually will not know that power is out so it is a good thing that you did report it. Who knows how long you would be without electricity if not. Usually if the power is out for more then an hour I call and report it. I hate being without electricity. I live right near the high school so our power usually gets restored pretty quickly.

hi shaggin and bjc they have to know as they have grids for all the areas where they supply power as sometimes in the summer they shut off certain areas that are forewarned for brown outs to lighten the power load.if they have g grids in their building to show where all the power is then how could they not see when some go black? if they have them here in southern Calif surely they have them in every state? I mean they have to keep track of power usage?

I hear you shaggin, but it wasn't like I was the only home on
that street that was without power, its practically the entire
village,,,Why would I need to report one address...It just dosen't
connect to me...
I am positive that I am not the only person on my block inquiting
about the power...
thanks for replying and its now 3 days later and still no power
and I as safe at my daughters home....

Wow that's really strange. I know you can report an outage but generally the electric company is aware of that sort of stuff from the get go. I'm glad you have a loving daughter to stay with. I keep hearing stories about how cold it is back east right now. Anyways now that the electric company actually knows there is a problem hopefully you'll get your power back soon. I know several people on the east coast who are also still without power. Not all of them are as lucky as you either to have a nice warm house to ride it out at.

Hi ajithlal,I am not sure you are aware of the terrible
hurricane we just experiences but that is the reason my
power is out,,,it didn't just go for hours there are many
trees down in the village..neither was the power justcut off
for a certain amount of hours...

hi bjc oh come on that company is not telling the truth as they have all areas in grids in the power company and they do know damned well where the electricity is out and where it is not. a man here who used to work for Cal Edison power told us about the grids the night the power was off all night in half of Garden grove. across the street the lights were and on our side they were all dark.I am glad your daughter is taking you in and of course she said what she did to you too. this Hurricane sandy was just incredible the damage its caused.Yes we with wonderful adult kids are totally blessed indeed. hope they get your electricity back on soon and why on earth did they say that, as the grids are where are the workers have to see them.so you are right they did too know where the outages a re. shame o them.

I appreciate your concern,,,I am also sure that Con Ed is very
busy doing there job. however, It just seemed unbelieveable
that they did not know my address was without power when the
entire area is out.. I don't believe someone from the area had
not called......
But I haven't been home since Monday night..
