With the success of the newest Star Trek franchise perhaps a new series?

TheTThe success of the newest Star Trek film franchise, do you think a new series will soon be on it's way, or even should? Like many Trekkers and Trekkies, I have been longing for the next chapter. Though I do so in fear after seeing the latest fate of the Stargate franchise and the ratings failures of shows like Firefly, I fear for new Trek. Would it be respected, or just horribly mismanaged like so many other greats in recent years?

Yes, I would love to see a new series. I'm just curious to know how they would make the series. Would they try to copy the original series or create a whole new story line?

I expect that the obvious format would be a new crew for a later version of the Enterprise. This worked extremely well for The Next Generation. It also opens the door for new technology, which was always the interesting part for myself.

I imagine that the idea of a revamped series based ob the original series, with the new JJ Abrams time flux has been discussed. I would be rather entertained by such a notion, though I am hoping for something entirely different.

I would welcome a return of Star Trek, although I imagine that it would have to be a new format and not just a new series. The actors from Star Trek The Next Generation must be certainly showing the signs of age, so a new crew would be required.
Every series so far has enjoyed a great popularity, so it should be the interest of the television companies to invest in such a venture. They tend to spend vast amounts of money on new programs without any possibility of knowing whether they would be a success or failure, surely a new Star Trek should expect a safer response from the public.

I would have to agree. It seems that above all other sci-fi, both Star Trek and Doctor Who have had a steady run of respect from the public and the production companies. So far, aside from crossover work and characters, in Deep Space 9 and TNG, we have seen nothing but new characters and an almost "Star Trek formula. Though DS9 was on a station, they very quickly got the story to a place to both get and keep everyone in the Defiant instead.
I would personally love to see a different format all together, but in the same "Star Trek universe" Perhaps some based around The Romulan Klingon war. Or perhaps The Maquis. Nonetheless, I want a new series for my son to grow up to.

Deep Space 9 was the only spin off that did not appeal to me. I did watch it for a while but too much time was spent concentrating on the relationships of the main characters rather than the a given situation for the week. It soon became boring to me because it was developing into a soap opera set on a space station instead of a Star Trek programme.

I'd love to see a new Star Trek series but the way they yanked Enterprise off the air so quickly I don't expect it to happen. I think it probably costs too much to make the shows so they are only going for theatrical release.
